BATON ROUGE, La. -- Zach Mettenberger and the LSU offense are still searching for consistency as the Tigers enter one of the toughest stretches on their schedule.
Mettenberger connected with Odell Beckham Jr. five times for 128 yards and two touchdowns, but No. 3 LSU was unable to eliminate nagging offensive sloppiness in a 38-22 victory over overmatched but feisty Towson on Saturday night.

Mettenberger's scoring strikes to Beckham went for 53 and 27 yards, and LSU's quarterback finished 15-of-26 for 238 yards passing. Still, Mettenberger was sacked four times, missed some open receivers and a fumble he gave up -- one of three LSU turnovers -- led to the first of two touchdown runs by Towson's Terrance West.
West's first TD run gave Towson, an FCS team, a stunning 9-7 lead in the second quarter before LSU responded with 24 straight points.
J.C. Copeland, LSU's powerful 272-pound fullback, scored his third touchdown of the season on a 1-yard plunge, but was hurt in the fourth quarter and did not put any weight on his left leg as he was helped off the field. Read more...http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=322730099

The college football season is only four weeks old, but the general feeling from most of the nation is there is a clear No. 1 team - Alabama. A lot will happen and plenty can change between now and the end of the season, but is LSU the biggest obstacle to another title by the Crimson Tide? Is LSU Alabama's Biggest Threat to a National Title?
David Fox (@DavidFox615):
Although LSU did not look great in a 12-10 win over Auburn on Saturday, the Tigers still appear to be the biggest threat to another Alabama national title. Any team that’s going to defeat Alabama needs to have an elite defense, and that’s still the Tigers. The road trip to LSU may be the only threat to Alabama during the regular season, but Georgia or South Carolina could be problematic as well in a potential SEC championship game. Either way, Alabama’s biggest threat would seem to come from the SEC rather than any potential foe in the title game -- assuming that opponent isn’t an SEC team again.
Braden Gall (@BradenGall):
A road trip to LSU on Nov. 3 is the toughest current game left on the schedule, but I am not ready to say that it will be the toughest challenge. Georgia, Florida and South Carolina all have defensive lines that match-up well Bama in a potential SEC title game with the Bulldogs also offering an offense that could put the Tide defense to the test as well. Florida State could provide an equally tricky match-ups should they all get to the national title game. But my pick for the national title game was Alabama and Oregon this summer, so the Ducks are in the mix as well. If I had to rank "biggest threats" to Alabama's third national title in four years: 1) Georgia in SEC title game 2) Oregon or Florida State in the BCS title game 3) LSU. Huskies shock Stanford, not themselves

September, 28, 2012
By Kevin Gemmell | ESPN.com

SEATTLE -- Thursday night, with a full moon hanging over CenturyLink Field, the Washington Huskies howled.

It was primal. It was piercing.

Fifty-thousand-plus fans howled along with them, bringing deafening decibel levels to Washington's temporary home field. It reached a fever pitch when
Desmond Trufant intercepted Josh Nunes in the closing minutes to lock up a 17-13 victory over the No. 8 Stanford Cardinal.

For the second time in three weeks, a top-10 team in the Pac-12 has fallen. And the strange week of football that CenturyLink Field has seen continued when the students overflowed into the center of the NFL stadium.

“I love our fans. They bring it, man,” said Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian. “They were patient with me on offense. I think? They knew what kind of game we were in. Part of me thinks that our fans probably appreciate these types of games more so than 48-45. There is something gritty about our mentality here. This was a black-and-blue type of game and I think our fans appreciated that.”

Shocking to who, the false selling of something that was now there by the hipping TV broadcast announcers. Anyone could see that Washington has some very good college football players that can play good football. Building Stanford into something that they were not because they beat the so called super duper USC was the thing that was bound to become shocking.?

whole PAC-12 is overrated. The PAC-12 beat some Big Ten teams that are struggling against FCS, MAC and Sun Belt team and every starts saying how good the PAC-12 looks. Oregon is probably the only legit program.

Overrated and exposed.
Still bet Stanford would curb stomp your team.
Masterful defensive plan by UW. They dared them to throw and hung in there on offense. Stanford still pretty good though, really makes you wonder about USC defense.
We all thought Stanford was one of those called "tough Pac12 teams". You couldn't beat Washington? Hopefully LSU and Alabama are not in your future.

No - Shows at Tiger Stadium
Bryan Lazare
TigerBait.com Senior Writer

LSU will conclude the non-conference portion of its 2012 football schedule against FCS member Towson at Tiger Stadium on Saturday night.

There are a couple of known facts about what is going to happen Saturday. First, LSU will win quite handily. Second, about 20,000 people who have tickets will not attend the game.

No-shows have been a problem at Tiger Stadium in recent seasons. Ticket scanners were installed at all gates of the stadium in 2007. Beginning with that season, LSU has played 38 games at home. The average number of no-shows for these games is slightly more than 14,000.

The number of people who do not show up doubles in non-conference games as opposed to Southeastern Conference contests. In this stretch, LSU is averaging a little more than 9,000 no-shows at SEC games and slightly less than 20,000 no-shows at non-conference games.

"We talk about the no-show situation," LSU Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said. "This is a phenomenon all around the country. It's a concern. Big-screen televisions and HDTV at homes are a factor. That's why we are trying to continue to make improvements for the people at the stadium."

In the past six years, LSU has sold no fewer than 91,556 tickets for any home game. In fact, at least 92,000 tickets have been sold for 35 of the 38 games. However, LSU has never had 90,000 people in Tiger Stadium. Read more...http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1415388

Are the American sports writers right?

Tinker Town: "Most sports writers working in America these days have been treating Nick Saban like the top college head football coach in our country. On the other hand the same sports writers are talking about Les Miles like he is a " Buffoon " who is one of the luckiest head college football coaches that managed to get himself hire at a college football wealthy University - LSU . He can't help but to keep winning college football game working for LSU. The college has a lock on the very best high schools football players in Louisiana. If Les Miles was not so much of a madman, Having the LSU QB tossing the football to the LSU RB, who then runs forward into the other teams defensive line, over, and over again. He could be one of the top college head football coaches also. Buy alas, he is only a entertaining harmless and likeable cartoon buffoon type, who really can't coach college football. LSU pays him over $3 million dollars."

The Sports writers say that Nick Saban RB's runs the football too. The difference between the Alabama offense from the LSU offense. Is Alabama is more efficient coaching the Alabama football players. Alabama has better results then Less Miles LSU football team. Because the proof is in the pudding. The reaping running plays of LSU QB tossing the football to the LSU RB who runs as hard as he can into the other team defense, again and again. even after the other teams defense keep stopping LSU from making a mere first down, Is self evident of Less Miles lack of efficiency.

Dandy Don's LSU sports Report

Good morning, Tiger Fans.
Last night I listened to the Les Miles Radio Talk Show and the coach started the program by crediting Auburn for giving LSU their best shot. Miles reminded the audience that Auburn is only two years removed from a national championship and has a lot of very talented players. He also acknowledged that his team made too many mistakes and that they are working hard in practice this week to correct their faults.
As they always do early in the program, Coach Miles and Jim Hawthorn named an offensive play of the game, and the choice this week was obvious. Of course, they named the throwback pass from Zach Mettenberger to Spencer Ware in the fourth quarter that went for 33 yards. Later in the program they named the defensive play of the game as Sam Montgomery’s sack for a safety after LSU had turned the ball over to Auburn near the end zone during the first possession.
The first caller of the night, Steve from Covington, asked about the possibility of La’el Collins being moved to left tackle and Josh Dworaczyk being moved back to guard. Miles said that Collins is a good left tackle candidate, but that they are not necessarily looking to move Dworaczyk. He did confirm that they are considering several options, including moving Alex Hurst to the left tackle and using Vadal Alexander at right tackle, and that they are giving a lot of thought to all the options available.

Alabama does certainly look like a good college football team after playing and winning their first four football game. But the fact remains that we the football fans are blinded by the below average or cup cake opponents that the top AP teams have played so far. Beating easy teams make judging the ability of the winner very difficult.

Smile? Arkansas just not in the mood

By GLENN GUILBEAU
Tiger Rag Featured Columnist

AUBURN, Ala. - Why is this man smiling?
Arkansas coach John L. Smith opened a press conference last week with the following directive to the poor folks who have to cover the creep show fest that is Arkansas football this season:
“Is everybody ready? Let’s go,” he said. After a pause, he said, “You guys act like … pick it up a little, OK. Get your chin up. Smile! SMILE!”
In between his two smile orders, he tilted his body to one side and stared at his audience in a disturbing way that may suggest he missed his medication that morning.
“Dang, you guys all right?,” he said as if he’s normal. “If not, I’m not talking,” he yelled.
Somewhere, you could almost hear Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long saying, “Please, DON’T SMILE, guys, so he will stop talking at last.”
Surely, Arkansas could not find a coach who would embarrass its institution more than former coach Bobby Petrino did with his motorcycle wreck that left a program and a lot of blonde hair flapping in the wind. But that’s what’s happened. Arkansas has a coach who looks like he belongs in an institution.
And they call Les Miles “The Mad Hatter.” John L (for loss). Smith has him beat. They call him Gilligan because of the way he cut a hat he has worn.
Yet, there he was smiling after a 52-0 L to Alabama and $24 million in debt from bad real estate deals in Kentucky. Wonder if it was beach property. He lost again Saturday to Rutgers at home, 35-26, to fall to 1-3 on the season.
“Smile!”  Was that Bernie Madoff’s line, too?
“Smile!” That’s what got Aaron Brooks out of New Orleans.
Any player smiling after losing 52-0 might be running stadium steps under another coach.
I know of another coach whose “Frown” orders have won three national championships in the last nine years.

Kasen Williams' touchdown gives Washington upset of Stanford

SEATTLE -- All night, Steve Sarkisian felt that if he could just get the ball past the first, stout wave of Stanford's defense, the opportunity was there for Washington to make big plays.
It happened only twice, and thanks to a stunning defensive effort by the Huskies, it was enough for Washington to pull out the upset of the eighth-ranked Cardinal.
"The way we executed in the most critical moments, that's what I'm most proud of those guys for," Sarkisian said.
Kasen Williams took a quick screen pass from Keith Price, broke a tackle at the line of scrimmage and raced 35 yards for the go-ahead score with 4:53 left, and Washington rallied from 10 points down to stun No. 8 Stanford 17-13 on Thursday night.

ND defense takes next step with turnovers

September, 27, 2012
By Matt Fortuna | ESPN.comSOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Nicky Baratti doesn't really know how to explain it. He wasn't here last year, after all, when Notre Dame's defense forced just 14 turnovers over 13 games in a five-loss campaign. So he can't really compare.

But the freshman safety sees something in the way the Irish's defense comes out to practice every day. He sees the effort that coordinator Bob Diaco puts into studying opposing defenses. And he knows that he and his teammates will be ready for virtually any look an opposing offense throws at them week to week.

"No loafs," Baratti said of the practice mentality. "If you mess up, then go all-out. And that's the ultimate eraser. Just hustle everywhere you go, and if you're loafing -- something bad's going to happen to you."

For now, the bad things have been happening to the Irish's opponents, who have turned the ball over 13 times through four games. Notre Dame is tied for second nationally in forced turnovers, and it is fifth in turnover margin. The Irish finished last season 118th in that category, and they had only five takeaways after a 2-2 start.
