Alabama vs Georgia for the SEC Championship 2012:

Tinker Town: "Is the Alabama Crimson Tide ready to beat the Georgia Bulldogs and go down into the SEC history books as one of the very best college football programs that the Southeastern Conference has ever seen. Alabama head college football coach Nick Saban seem to have had that exact kind of abstract vision as a goal for the Alabama football program. Will Nick Saban dream for Alabama football become a college football NCAA reality?
----------------------

Saban's career record as a collegiate head coach is 157–55–1.
 ----------------------
GoldRing: " Georgia Bulldog head college football coach Mark Richt is still chasing the BCS Crystal ball at the University of Georgia. The knock on Mark Richt is that he simply can not win the big important college football game against the better college football team in the NCAA. If Mark Richt Georgia Bulldogs can beat Nick Saban Alabama Crimson Tide in the up and coming SEC Championship game. The sky will be the limit for Mark Rich and the Georgia Dogs for many years to come."

Mark Richt (2001-current) Georgia, 117-27

SEC Championship 2012: Alabama vs Georgia Spread, BCS Impact and Predictions

The newly minted BCS playoff system debuts in 2014, but in a grand twist of fate, we won't have to wait until then for a National Semifinal Game.
When No. 2 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia square off in Atlanta this weekend, it will be––for all intents and purposes––a play-in game for the BCS National Championship. Think of it like a Final Four game where the other team (Notre Dame) gets a bye––the Final Three, if you will.
Both Alabama and Georgia have looked dominant week-in and -out this season, with just a lone slip-up (Alabama vs. Texas A&M; Georgia vs. South Carolina) keeping them from perfection. That––coupled with the SEC's well-documented supremacy since 2006––has many calling this the de facto National Championship.
As some, including SI.com's Stuart Mandel, have astutely pointed out, belief is a massive disservice to Notre Dame's impressive season. But that's an argument for a different day. We're here to talk about the immediate task at hand:
Come Saturday night, who will reign supreme in the nation's premier conference?
Let's take a closer look.

When: Saturday, Dec. 1st – 4:00 EST
Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
Watch: CBS
Listen: Crimson Tide Sports Network or Georgia Football Radio Network
Live Stream: SEC Live

Spread: Alabama -7 (via Las Vegas Hilton)
Sharps jumped all over Georgia at 7.5 and bet the game back down to seven––which is probably where it belongs. Even so, as our own Adam Kramer reports, the early money seems to (surprisingly) be on the Bulldogs:
Early money actually going Georgia's way: 64% are betting Georgia (+7) against Alabama on Sportsbook.
It's always weird to see money going against Nick Saban, but in this case, it's also understandable. The Tide's past two games against legitimate competition were a four-point win at LSU and a five-point loss vs. Texas A&M; neither of those performances would cover a touchdown.
Assuming you put Georgia in the same class as Texas A&M and LSU––which every metric suggests you should––the seven-point buffer seems like a nice value. Especially on a "neutral field" that just-so-happens to be in Atlanta. Tide fans travel well, but that's still worth at least a point.
Take the 'Dawgs and the points.

Over/Under: 50.0 (via Vegasinsider.com)
Alabama and Georgia boast the top- and 16th-ranked scoring defenses in the country respectively. They allow an average of 27 points per game....combined. Easy money on the under, right?
Not so fast, my friend.
Because Alabama and Georgia––despite playing in the notoriously stout SEC––also respectively boast the 15th- and 17th-ranked scoring offenses in the country. The Tide put up 39 points per game, while the Bulldogs post a not-too-shabby 38. All defense in the SEC, you say? Try this stat on for size:
Aaron Murray and AJ McCarron will go into the SEC title game as the nation's No. 1 and 2 rated passers.

Having said all that, Georgia's offense has still, admittedly, sputtered in the team's biggest games. They averaged 12 points per game against South Carolina and Florida, a number that hardly instills confidence before going up against the Tide.
And even though Georgia's defense has been gashed before, they've played unrecognizably better in the second half of the season. Like Alabama, they're loaded with NFL players on defense (including Jarvis Jones, the darling of ESPN.com's Mike Mayock), and the unit as a whole is chomping at the bit for a chance in the national spotlight.
Stick with the under and pray for a close game. Once Alabama gets up big, they have a way of pounding teams into submission and putting up giant totals.

Georgia Injury Report (via USA Today as of 11/28/12)
Player Injury Status
LB Sterling Bailey Thumb Probable
FB Merritt Hall Ankle Probable
NT Mike Thornton Ankle Questionable

Reserve lineman Mike Thornton, officially listed as questionable, remains unlikely to play for the Bulldogs. The sophomore provides depth along the interior offensive line, but his absence won't be too conspicuous.

Alabama Injury Report (via USA Today as of 11/28/12)
Player Injury Status
DB John Fulton Toe Questionable
WR Chris Black Shoulder Questionable
WR Kenny Bell Leg Out For Season

The loss of Kenny Bell, who broke his leg against Auburn last weekend, could be costly for the Tide. Despite never recording more than three catches in a game this season, the speedy Bell stretches the field as effectively as any player on Alabama's roster. He and his six catches of 30-plus yards will be sorely missed.Read more...http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1421212-sec-championship-2012-alabama-vs-georgia-spread-bcs-impact-and-predictions

Tackle football is becoming extinct.

GoldRing: "Do you really like blocking and tackling. Hard hitting, and great college athletes playing on defense. Or do you want a lot of touchdowns from wide open football games that becomes more like touch, better known as flag football. Scoring a lot and lots of points. Tackle football is becoming extinct. What do you really want to see on a college football field?

Johnny Manziel and other good offensive college football players running around lose on every other play. Offensive players are only as good as the competition they plays against. I think that the standard of college football has declined so bad that even the best in the business ( Pro football ) is now allowing first year college quarterbacks to run around at will, like flag football. Lost in TV thrills.

The college football defense has been so watered down that the football game we see now is but a replay of more and more touchdowns. At what point does the repetition become boring?"

Les Miles wise to stay right where he is

November, 28, 2012
By Chris Low | ESPN.com

Les Miles might be known as the “Mad Hatter,” and he might do and say some strange things from time to time.

OK, he says strange things a lot of the time.

But this just in: He hasn’t lost his mind.

Arkansas is a good job with first-class facilities that are about to be spruced up to the tune of $35 million, and it’s obvious the Hogs were willing to pay Miles a hog trough of money to be Head Hog.

But let’s be honest here. Leaving LSU for Arkansas makes absolutely no sense.

LSU’s not only one of the top coaching jobs in the SEC. It’s one of the top coaching jobs in all of college football when you take everything into account from the talent level in the state of Louisiana, to the facilities on campus, to the brand that LSU football has become.

Florida, Texas, USC and Ohio State, in no particular order, might be the Rolls-Royces of coaching jobs in college football. But LSU would at least deserve to be in the same showroom.

Everything’s in place at LSU to compete for and win championships on a regular basis, and for the most part, Miles has done just that since arriving on the Bayou in 2005.

In some ways, he’s probably been a victim of his own success. A win in the bowl game this season would give him 11 or more wins in six of his eight seasons coaching the Tigers.

Go back and look at how many schools across college football have won 11 or more games six times in an eight-year span. Twice, Miles has played in the BCS National Championship Game, and he won the top prize in 2007.

Despite his success, Miles has never been completely embraced by the LSU fan base. He’s been his own worst enemy at times with some of his game-management blunders, and there’s a segment of fans in Tigerland who will always hold it against him that he’s not Nick Saban. See video and read more...

Head coach inks contract extension, salary increase with university

By RICHARD FISCHER
TIger Rag Associate Editor

Following yesterday’s reported offer of $27.5 million over five years to become the next head coach at Arkansas, LSU and Les Miles came to an agreement on a contract extension and raise Wednesday.

Miles had five years remaining on his preexisting contract, and two years have been added to it.

No figures have been released regarding Miles’ bump in pay. In fact, a release sent out by LSU earlier today (which you can find at the bottom of the page) said that details are still being negotiated. Of course, any changes are subject to the approval of the LSU Board of Supervisors.

LSU held a prescheduled press conference Wednesday afternoon where the toping of Miles staying at LSU was front and center. LSU athletics’ director Joe Alleva led it off with the following comments.

“There’s been a lot of speculation about other schools and all that, and I wanna assure you - I know you’re not gonna believe me - but I want to assure you it really has nothing to do with that,” Alleva said. “It’s been my plan all along to give coach a raise and an extension, and that’s what we’re doing. People talk about winning championships, and it’s really not always about winning championships. It’s about being in the hunt to win championships, and coach has shown that he’s consistently in the hunt to win championships and educate our young men and make them good citizens. And that’s really what this is all about.”

Miles said his talks with Arkansas were “preliminary and fell short of any major, major interest.” He said no yes or no was required from his talks with the Hogs, and he recommended names for Arkansas to hire. Miles said he did not speak with Arkansas alum and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones regarding the offer.

“I can tell you I very much respect those Razorbacks and how they played in the last game, but I’m the LSU head coach and will be the LSU head coach for as long as I can be,” Miles said. “We’ve done some special things here, and it’s nice that the administration, Joe Alleva, Chancellor [Dr. William] Jenkins, recognized that and say, ‘Coach, we want you to be here.’

Miles he said the reported sum Arkansas offered is inaccurate. He would not talk about money in the press conference in any other way, even going as far as to call it “embarrassing.”

“It’s embarrassing to me to have to talk about money, so I don’t. I can tell you that I’m just thankful and fortunate to have an occupation that pays tremendous market value,” he said.

Miles didn’t comment on who got the conversation with Arkansas started.

Here are some other things of note the coach said during his meeting with the media.

-Miles expects LB Kwon Alexander (ankle) and OG Josh WIlliford (concussion) to be back for the bowl game. He does not expect RB Alfred Blue (knee) to be back.

SEC postseason picture takes shape, predicting the bowl pairings

Posted: Nov 25, 2012 5:49 PM EST Updated: Nov 26, 2012 6:15 PM EST
By Brian Tynes - email
(RNN) – Nine SEC teams are bowl eligible, and where they'll all wind up and who they will play will be determined after Saturday's games.
Bt it is never too early to start guessing how things will pan out. Games are listed in descending order of play (all times Eastern).
Oh, and by the way, if Wisconsin upsets Nebraska this weekend,  these predictions are all out the window.

BCS National Championship, Jan. 7, 8:30 p.m., ESPN

Alabama vs. Notre Dame – The dream matchup of the NCAA and the powers-that-be in college football will happen if the Crimson Tide can get past Georgia in the SEC championship game. That won't be an easy task, but Alabama got new life after a pair of upsets at the top of the BCS standings catapulted it back into the hunt for the championship game. Should the Bulldogs win, they'll get this berth instead. Alabama is currently ranked higher, so it earns the projection.
Notre Dame is the longest of long shots after starting the season unranked, and was on no one's radar for the national championship game until about three weeks ago when the Tide lost to Texas A&M. The Fighting Irish (12-0) survived two overtime games and three others decided by one score to become the only undefeated team eligible for postseason play.

Cotton Bowl, Jan. 4, 8 p.m., FOX

Texas A&M vs. Texas – The only people who will be happy about this game will be the executives at the Cotton Bowl and FOX. The Aggies (10-2, 6-2) are dead to Texas after leaving the Big XII, and having to face them in a bowl game will be about as well received as a slap in the face.
A&M hates Texas even more than that, and is well rid of the Longhorns (8-3, 5-3). Or so they thought. Texas last made the Cotton Bowl in 2003, which is also the last time a current member of the Big XII won the game. This matchup, however, is not a guarantee. The Big XII will have to get one of its teams in the BCS as an at-large team to make it happen, which means Oklahoma has to beat TCU this weekend.
If Texas loses to Kansas State this Saturday, the Longhorns could have the same record as Oklahoma State. On the flip side, LSU and South Carolina are both teams that could get the SEC's invitation in A&M's place. But if given the chance, the Cotton Bowl will not let this matchup slip away.
The Cotton Bowl has not been kind to Texas A&M. The Aggies last won it in 1988 and have six losses in that time.

Sugar Bowl, Jan. 2, 8:30 p.m., ESPN

Florida vs. Oklahoma – Florida is already guaranteed a trip to New Orleans by virtue of its BCS ranking. Oklahoma has to beat TCU to have a shot at an at-large BCS berth.Read more...http://www.kfvs12.com/story/20180217/do-not-assign-sec-bowl-projections

Arkansas reportedly offers Les Miles a five-year deal worth more than $27 million to coach the Razorbacks.

Update: Pete Roussel denies Arkansas offered.
The Arkansas Razorbacks have reportedly offered LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles a five-year, $27.5-million contract to leave LSU and become the head coach at Arkansas, according to the Times-Picayune. The information originally came from a tweet by Sports by Brooks; it's been denied from the Fayetteville side, and the LSU sports information department declined comment when asked.
Earlier, Bruce Feldman weighed in:

From SEC blog Team Speed Kills' analysis:
I'm not sure what Long's play is here. Miles didn't leave LSU for his own alma mater of Michigan, which also happens to be the winningest program in major NCAA football history. I really don't see him leaving Baton Rouge for a job that is, frankly, a step down from the one he has now in the same division. Joe Alleva will always be able to find enough money to keep Miles where he is if that's the central issue, so Long can't pry Miles away with a Godfather offer. It's a bold move, but it's also one that could blow up in his face. If the fan base doesn't like whoever he ends up with or a prime candidate gets snapped up in the meantime, then he'll be seen as having wasted time on this wild goose chase. Plus, now the actual new head coach is not going to be seen as the first choice.

For Miles, there is no incentive to leave. He's pretty well entrenched at LSU, and as I said, he'll get paid. With his team seemingly a perpetual top 10 or so squad every year, he's got things going at roughly as high a level as they get. What reason is there to go to the other half of the Golden Boot to pick up the pieces that Bobby Petrino left behind and John L. Smith scattered to the winds? Not only would Miles instantly become the most hated person in the state of Louisiana, but his image would be tarnished forever as a mercenary only after money.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

11/28/12 6:05 am CT

Good morning, Tiger Fans.
The hot topic of discussion among Tiger Fans is the rumor of Arkansas offering Les Miles a five-year, $27.5 million contract to coach the Razorbacks. I'll tell you right now that I don't believe Miles will leave. I do believe that Arkansas has reached out to Coach Miles with a whole heck of a lot of money, but I think in the end he will stay put in Tiger country where he seems to have a genuine, well-grounded connection to the team and community. Miles will be holding a previously scheduled press conference today to review the Arkansas game, recap the regular season, and discuss LSU’s bowl résumé. I hope that he will also make a statement about this and nip it in the bud.
Moving on... It was nice hearing from so many of you yesterday about the quarterback comparison chart that I posted. One thing about stats is that they can be interpreted in many different ways, and that was very evident in the comments I received. To some of you, the stats made you long for the days of Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee. To others, the stats told the story of a passing game that hasn’t changed much in terms of efficiency. To many others, including myself, they show a significant movement in a positive direction. Let me explain....
If I look at the stats that compare the entire 2011 and 2012 regular seasons, the thing that jumps out most to me is just how much more passing there was this year. 329 passes were thrown, compared to 249 last year. That 32% increase in the number of passes represents a much more balanced attack between the pass and rush, and I think that is an obvious positive, as is the fact that the Tigers threw for 419 more yards through the same period. To me, the stats begin to look really encouraging when you look at those of Mettenberger’s last four games. During those four games, Mettenberger averaged 267 yards per game, and it’s been a long time since any LSU quarterback has done that. Only once last year did Jarrett Lee throw for more than 180 yards and that was against Mississippi State when he threw for a season-high 213 yards. Jordan Jefferson only broke the 100+ mark two times last season when he threw for 168 yards against Western Kentucky and 208 against Arkansas. Another positive that I take from Mettenberger’s last four games is that during that period only 1-of-66.5 passes resulted in an interception, which is very good and represents a big improvement over his first eight games of the season. Again, a step in the right direction. The biggest negative I take away from the chart is the lack of touchdown passes from Mettenberger, which I think is indicative of LSU’s red-zone troubles this year. That will need to be a major area of emphasis moving forward.
Considering that next year LSU will have a more experienced offensive line and receiving corps, and Mettenberger will have a year of SEC experience under his belt, plus our running game should be stronger than ever with the return of Hill, Blue, Hilliard and possibly Ware and Ford, I think we’ll see a marked improvement on offense. In the coming days or weeks, we’ll speculate a bit on who the Tigers will lose this year and what next year’s team will look like. One thing is certain, with all of the young talent that is returning, and the great recruiting class that LSU is putting together, the future of LSU football is very bright. GoldRing: "Some LSU football fans have expressed their horror over the way Les Miles talks to the general public. The bent out of shape LSU fans seem to feel that Les Miles is a far out person who just about never becomes understandable in what he says to the viewers. And that they really can't find out what he is talking about. Some LSU fans simply think that Les Miles himself does not know what he is talking about. So the mocking and frustration over Les Miles mannerisms plague the LSU football fans. What do you think?"

Mark Stoops replaces Phillips at Kentucky

Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops has agreed to become Kentucky's next head coach.

Stoops replaces Joker Phillips, who was fired after three straight losing seasons. Stoops has been the defensive coordinator at Florida State since 2009 and has been regarded as one of the top defensive coordinators in the game for the past few years.

The Seminoles are currently ranked second nationally in total defense, but it's interesting to see Kentucky go in the defensive direction. The thought was that the Wildcats would go after an up-and-coming offensive mind.

But defense does rule the SEC and if the Wildcats are going to make strides, improving that defense will be key, as the Wildcats ranked 11th in total defense in the SEC this season and 10th last year.

Check back on the SEC blog for more on Stoops' hire.

Talk about it in The Main Board
LSU fans will have to get ready for the Tongan Tiger.

For what is believed to be the first time in the program's storied history LSU will have a player of Tongan heritage on its roster after College of San Mateo (Calif.) offensive guard
Fehoko Fanaika signed a scholarship Thursday with the Tigers.

The LSU visit sealed the deal for Fanaika
"He's a Tiger," said College of San Mateo assistant head coach Tim Tulloch, who plans to fax all of Fanaika's paperwork to LSU on Friday.

More than a month after the start of the national signing period LSU gained its 23rd signee and fourth from an offensive lineman with Fanaika, a 6-foot-6, 340-pounder, ticketed to play guard where he played for the past two years and earned All-American honors.

Fanaika, who graduates from College of San Mateo in July, will arrive at LSU in August for the start of fall camp and have three years to play his two years of eligibility.

"That's still their decision but I think it would be best for him," Tulloch said of his preference to see Fanaika redshirt in 2012. "I think he'll get to phase in and really get to learn the offense and know it instead of having four weeks to know it. That's a tough deal for anyone to try and be up and running at the level of the SEC.

"That's the best conference in the nation and to be up and running in four weeks would be kind of tough for anybody," Tulloch said. "I think it would be good for him in the long run and I think it would be good for LSU in the long run. If he gets to learn it and learn it well I think he can be an all-conference kid two years."

With the signing of most junior college players talk of redshirting is unheard of but in the case of LSU's offensive line, which received a boost with senior Josh Dworaczyk's return for a sixth season, the Tigers will have five players back with starting experience of which three are seniors.

In an earlier interview with TigerBait.com last month Fanaika wasn't opposed to redshirting with the intent of starting his final two seasons.

"They gave me an option to redshirt and I'd most likely redshirt," Fanaika said. "It helps me get used to the speed of the game, catch up on playbook and get ready for the next two years after that. Other schools would let me play right away while LSU gave me a choice. I don't have any problem sitting out."

Tulloch said Fanaika selected LSU over Florida while Hawaii also drew strong consideration.

"It was a really tough decision but when it was all said and done he felt like LSU was the best fit for him," Tulloch said. "He felt comfortable with (offensive line) coach Stud (Greg Studrawa) and felt comfortable with the direction LSU was going. He said it just felt like home."

Fanaika attended Florin High in Sacramento, Calif. and received one scholarship offer from Sacramento State. Fanaika opted for College of San Mateo where he started for the past two seasons, helping his team to an 8-3 record, including a victory in the Bulldog Bowl.

Fanaika said he simply wasn't ready to sign on Feb. 1 and not long thereafter LSU contacted him and offered a scholarship. Studrawa made a visit out to the California campus to meet Fanaika, who agreed to take his fifth and final official visit to the LSU campus two weeks ago.

"We told him not to rush it," Tulloch said. "We said if you don't have a slam dunk thought of something being a perfect fit then you can go ahead and take some time. It's not uncommon for our kids to go past the signing day.

"That's why the visit is so important," Tulloch said. "LSU was an unknown until he got to meet everyone in person. He met coach (Les) Miles, coach Stud and the players. He said he just felt comfortable with the players and coach Stud. You spend the majority of your time with your position coach and strength coach (Tommy Moffitt) and he really liked both of those guys."

Arkansas has made a head-coaching offer to LSU's Les Miles, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports, citing a source.
The Razorbacks offered five years, $27.5 million, according to the paper.
"They made a serious offer," a source told the newspaper. "(Athletic director) Joe (Alleva) is meeting with (Miles') agent and the discussion is ongoing."

Miles' agent, George Bass, dismissed the report, telling the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette: "There's nothing like that going on."
Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long announced Saturday the school would not be bringing back John L. Smith.
The former Michigan State and Louisville coach was hired from Weber State in April to replace the fired Bobby Petrino and signed to a 10-month contract. Long says that once a new coach is hired, Smith will be reassigned as a consultant through the end of his deal on Feb. 23, 2013.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette told the paper that Miles "didn't have anything to say."
LSU beat Arkansas in its final regular-season game on Friday, finishing with double-digit wins for the sixth time in eight seasons under Miles.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I don't care if it's real or not, if Jeff Long wants to be fired let it be the truth! Why in the hell would he fire a lunatic for a lunatic moron?
But Les doesn't ride motorcycles... right?! Also, sources have told me he hates volleyball players...

Arkansas offers Les Miles head coaching job

Deal would be for five years, around $30 million plus large buy out

By CODY WORSHAM
Tiger Rag Editor

Arkansas must have been mighty impressed with Les Miles’ coaching performance in LSU’s 20-13 victory on Friday.
Just days later, the university has extended an offer to Miles for the Tiger coach to take their vacant head coaching position, sources have informed Tiger Rag.
The offer, in total, is for five years and “around $30 million” and includes a large buy out. It’s a multi-year offer starting at approximately $4 million per season and increasing to nearly $6.5 million by its end, according to sources.
The deal would earn Miles nearly $1.5 million per year more than he currently makes at LSU. Miles will make $3.8 million for the 2012 season, second in the SEC only to Nick Saban’s $5.4 million.
Miles will meet with the media tomorrow afternoon for a previously scheduled press conference. While the original topic of the presser was to focus on LSU’s bowl outlook, be sure that the contract offer will be discussed.
Come back to Tiger Rag tomorrow for updates.

Les Miles has 'serious offer' from Arkansas, according to report

By on Nov 27, 9:28p 18
Chris Graythen
Asked 2 sources abt Les Miles/Arkansas report. Both said may be something there but probably using for leverage w LSU.

Miles completed his eighth regular season at LSU, leading the Tigers to a 10-2 record in 2012, which was capped by a 20-13 victory over the Razorbacks last weekend.
On Nov. 24 Arkansas reassigned coach John L. Smith into a consulting role until the end of his 10-month deal to serve as Bobby Petrino's interim replacement. The Razorbacks finished the 2012 season 4-8.
Les Miles currently makes just more than $3.75 million per year as base salary, according to the Times-Picayune.
Miles was previously the head coach of the Oklahoma State Cowboys before coming to LSU to replace Nick Saban in 2004. He also previously served as a position coach with the Dallas Cowboys, Michigan Wolverines, Colorado Buffaloes and at Oklahoma State.

Tinker Town: "You would think that the people responsible for running the affairs of Louisiana State University would be better able to arrive at a wiser decision, then to shine a bad publicity light on the LSU University football program. By tossing out one of the leading sports voices of the powerful 50,000 Watt Radio station in New Orleans. For over anthem behavior because of his reaction to the LSU football player scoring a exciting TD in a important LSU vs Alabama football game. I mean come on, after going through all those years of higher education that the people running LSU have had, that they lack the simple wisdom of every day American citizens. That just give me the willies?

Wow! No wonder that our school are in the bad shape that we see them in, these day."

Radio host, former Saints QB Bobby Hebert connects with fans, ruffles feathers in Big Easy

NEW ORLEANS – On the night they came for Bobby Hebert they brought a policeman to take him away. Can you believe that? A policeman. And the voice of Louisiana sports looked with shock upon the men from LSU about to eject him from their press box. They were tossing him out? Seriously? The host of the biggest sports talk show in New Orleans, during the biggest moment of the biggest game of the year? And they called a policeman? A policeman? For Bobby Ehh-Bearrrr? They were only throwing him out of their press box, not sending him to Angola, but still. The Cajun Cannon getting tossed?

Bobby Hebert (R) pumps up the crowd at a Madden kickoff event in New Orleans in August 2010 (Getty)The school's sports information official said there had been complaints; that all the cheering Hebert was doing earlier this month for LSU during the Alabama game was a distraction and a direct violation of press box protocol prohibiting such outbursts. The LSU official said other journalists in the box had noticed. "Belligerent," is how one would describe him. And how could they not help but see? When a 6-foot-4 onetime Saints quarterback pounds on the table in front of him and shouts game commentary in a Cajun accent as thick as an alligator's spine, it's hard to ignore.
Then again this is a different place from the other sports cities in the United States. Where a sports talk host getting tossed from a press box might seem irresponsible elsewhere, people in this market give their talk shows names like: "The Sports Hangover." It is a world in which Hebert has become larger than life no matter what he does. And why weeks after the Alabama game, the memory makes him laugh. Not because he was thrown out. Or because the story about his ejection went viral. Or even because a policeman was called, though he is still shocked about that.
What amuses Hebert is that anyone considers his ejection a big deal.
"They better never come to a Saints game," he says. "Compared to what I did at that Jets game this was nothing."
He chuckles. Read more...http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--radio-host--former-saints-qb-bobby-hebert-connects-with-fans--ruffles-feathers-in-big-easy-230116469.html

Consider it the LSU Tigers’ own personalized version of a four-game college football playoff.
Four possible bowl destinations for the Tigers — the Capital One, AT&T Cotton, Outback and Chick-fil-A — appear likely be trimmed down to two leading destinations, the Cotton and Chick-fil-A, before LSU finds out Sunday which is the one game where it will finally play.
Indications point to LSU’s bowl fate being closely tied to which team wins Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Championship Game in Atlanta.
If it’s No. 2 Alabama winning to advance to a date with Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship Game, that would likely steer LSU to the Jan. 4 Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas. If it’s No. 3 Georgia, then LSU would likely follow the Bulldogs to Atlanta to play in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
With 11-1 Florida (currently No. 4 in the BCS) set to snap up the SEC’s second and final BCS bowl slot, the Gators are poised to be the SEC champion’s replacement in the Jan. 2 Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
That leaves the Cap One, Cotton, Outback and Chick-fil-A to divvy up an 11-2 SEC Championship Game loser and LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina, all at 10-2. Read more...http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/4530851-123/lsu-bowl-fate-may-depend

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

11/27/12 5:50 am CT

Good morning, Tiger Fans.
The first thing I’d like to do is thank those of you who have already shown your appreciation of this websiet by contributing to our annual fundraiser which began yesterday. For those of you who and not familiar with our fundraiser, please click here to find out what it’s all about and pledge your support.
Yesterday I received quite a bit of email from Tiger fans expressing mixed feelings about this football season. While many of the fans I heard from were not pleased with the way the team played against Arkansas, there are a lot of folks, myself included, who realize that going 10-2 and playing in a quality bowl (albeit a non-BCS) is very commendable, especially considering the attrition/injuries the team faced, the difficulty of LSU’s schedule and the overall strength of the SEC. (Yesterday one of my readers pointed out to me that the six SEC teams in the top-10 of the BCS have a combined record of 63-9 and every loss has been at the hands of one another!) All in all, I’m very proud of this LSU team and its accomplishments, and I recognize how fortunate we are as Tiger fans to be in a situation where it feels like a down year when we go 10-2.
I also heard from many of you asking my thoughts on LSU’s offense with Zach Mettenberger at the helm. Honestly, there are a lot of things I like about Mettenberger, and I saw marked improvement in his play starting with the Alabama game. During the course of the year he seemed to become more accustomed to the speed of the game, began doing a better job checking down his receivers, and stood taller in the pocket. I have confidence that if he learns to put a little more air under his long throws, which would give his receivers a better chance to make a play on the ball, he will be successful and make a lot of Tiger Fans happy.
Yesterday I decided to spend a bit of time evaluating LSU’s quarterback performance this year compared to last year and put together the following chart. Rather than interpreting the chart for you and telling you what I take from it, I’ll ask that you draw your own conclusions and share them with me. This ought to be a lot of fun. By the way, I pulled the numbers from cfbstats.com which is a great resource.
LSU passing comparison 2011-2012
In other news, Coach Miles and his staff will be spending a lot of time this week on the recruiting trail since the NCAA Contact Period began Sunday. LSU currently has 24 commitments for the class of 2013 and one of it’s biggest remaining in-state targets is Kendell Beckwith (DE/LB, 6'3", 225) of East Feliciana who is the top-ranks player on our list of Top Louisiana Football Prospects for the Class of 2013. In this weekend’s semi-finals of the state playoff, East Feliciana will be hosting Notre Dame, and I suspect that LSU recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson will be there to check out Beckwith. I understand that the two of them have developed a great relationship and I am feeling better and better about our chances of landing him. Two other games that will be getting a lot of attention Friday because of the numerous 2014 prospects on the teams are West Monroe at Barbe and Holy Cross at Edna Karr. I’ll probably be checking out the West Monroe-Barbe game and would appreciate reports on the other games from any of you who attend.
In closing, I’m happy to report that the Denver Broncos are expected to add running back Jacob Hester to their 53-man roster. According to a report by the Denver Post, the Broncos have an open spot on their roster after they placed starting running back Willis McGahee on injured reserve last week, and Hester began working out with the team Wednesday.

Of the 67 plays called by LSU offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa on Friday against Arkansas, two truly went on to change the complexity of the game.
Both were plays that may not have happened at the beginning of the season.
With 1:12 remaining in the first half, junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw a pass that many initially believed would be beyond sophomore wide receiver Jarvis Landry’s reach.
That was before Landry swirled around, extended his right hand and snatched the ball before his backside landed in-bounds.
Some are calling it college football’s catch of the year.Read more...
“It was one of those things that we do at practice to mess around,” Landry said of his one-handed grab. “It was kind of high and behind me, so I just trusted my ability, and I went up and made the play.”
The second play came with roughly two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Tigers leading Arkansas 17-13.
Mettenberger threw a strike to sophomore receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who then sprinted 47 yards to put the Tigers in field goal range and burn precious seconds off the clock.
“I just got open, and when I looked ahead I saw there was no one up, so I just tried to get out of the tackle,” Beckham said. “I slipped my leg out and tried to stay in bounds to keep the clock moving.”
Both of these plays were critical to LSU’s victory the day after Thanksgiving, but they may not have looked the same earlier this season.
Many hoped Mettenberger’s presence and the emergence of a young receiving corps would bring efficiency to LSU’s passing game in 2012.
And then things began to fall apart.
Three-fifths of the original starting offensive line was eventually replaced. Both Beckham and Landry found themselves regularly dropping would-be completions.
Even Mettenberger came under fire, with some members of the Tigers’ fan base calling for redshirt freshman backup Stephen Rivers to get more playing time.
Right when it looked as though the passing game needed a boost, the top-ranked Crimson Tide marched into Tiger Stadium.
The receivers knew their quarterback had taken heat from both the media and the fan base, and they set out to silence the critics.
“We just decided that it’s not fun to be talked about and to hear that we’re not good,” Beckham said. “We decided that we had to turn it on and start making plays for the offense.”
Mettenberger responded with 298 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Since the Alabama contest, the passing attack has hardly resembled the unit that took the field earlier in the season.
“All the receivers are really starting to mature, and they’re really solidifying our identity as an offense,” Mettenberger said. “Guys are starting to understand that every route has a purpose.”http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football/article_38682acc-3847-11e2-86cd-001a4bcf6878.html
