The LSU fighting tigers football team will be left out of the AP top ten in 2013

Tinker:

Well then this LSU football team is going to be left out of the AP top ten, for the first time in a number of years. This coming college football season will seam a little empty for the LSU tiger football faithful. Everyone seem to think that because Les Miles fighting tigers simply lost too many junior football players. Along with a number of seniors, that went into the 2012 pro draft. That this LSU football team is into a rebuilding process for LSU to play for the SEC conference title.

Losing 11 juniors is a big number for a college football team to over come. That the AP sports writers don't believe Les Miles can readily replace them fast enough to become a contender themselves. That also the LSU 2013 college football schedule is a very tough lineup. LSU is playing against the top two SEC football team in both the West, and Easy. For a grand total of playing four top SEC contenders. The SEC conference contenders are Florida, Georgia in the East.
Alabama, Texas A&M, in the West. So the AP writers are thinking that LSU 2013 college football schedule is a mountain simply too high.

I on the other hand see a great opportunity for this year LSU football team to do much better than what these AP sports writers think.

DandyDon.com chats with Mike Detillier about former Tigers in the NFL Combine

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
Scott: Mike, the Scouting Combine finished and what is your assessment of the guy everyone was talking about, Tyrann Mathieu?

Mike: Scott, I had him rated a top-100 guy going in and that is where I have him coming out of the Combine. Tyrann is a terrific football player. Sometimes the TV coverage gets overblown because it doesn't tell you if these guys can play football or not. I know, if he is focused and clean, Tyann is an impact player as a punt returner and also as a nickel and dime cover-cornerback.

It's like they are trying to put together a 4x400 meter relay team instead of asking the question of can he play football.

He ran well and he was just so smooth in all the field drills and he was the guy everyone who has watched LSU and SEC football knows about it. He's a really good athlete, that was never in question for people who have watched him regularly, it is all about the trust factor.

He got in a host of trouble with no money in his pocket. What happens when he has some money and everyone is trying to put their fingers in his pockets. And plenty of free time.

I thought he handled himself extremely well, he ran very well , but it was in the drills that he stood out as someone with great ball skills and even though you couldn't see it in drills, his instincts, football wise, are off the charts.

There will be a big run on cornerbacks in Round 2 and I always have felt he would end up being a late 3rd round pick. I think he may go a bit higher. It just takes one team to fall for him and he is certainly a football talent.

It is the intangibles and how he handles money and success, and not just in Year #1, but later on. I thought Tyrann did himself well and I am standing pat that he ends up being selected in Round 3. I know others will have him getting picked much later, but he is just too talented to get out of the 3rd round.

It may not be fair in life, but talented athletes get fourth, fifth and sixth chances. All I know is if he can straighten out his life he would be a great inspiration for everyone that says you are too small to play football.

Scott: Would he be a good fit for the Saints?

Mike: Scott, he could play for anyone and a part of me would love to see him in New Orleans, but the same people that helped bring him down and get kicked off the LSU team would be around him again. He has to break away from that pack of guys that are just worried about his money and bringing him down to their level. He needs to get away. I would love to see him play for the Saints because he could really help them out as a return man and also at cornerback, but I would be scared that many of the same elements that got him in trouble will stick to him like glue, especially back in his hometown.

Scott: What about Tharold Simon?

Mike: I really thought he did well also. Just think about two years ago and all the talk on the NFL Network was that Patrick Peterson couldn't play cornerback and that he was a safety and too stiff in the hips.

Now, everyone wants big cornerbacks because of Patrick's success and also the two guys from Seattle in Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner.

It's a copycat league and Simon is a big cover cornerback.

His problems were when he was in "off" coverages. When he got on a receiver and could bump and run with him downfield he was very effective.

Tharold ran better than I thought he would and he also was very fluid in the drill work and he is such a huge and physical cornerback.

I really think it will be close on who gets picked first Simon or Mathieu.
I don't see him getting out of the 3rd round either.

Scott: Eric Reid really looked good also?

Mike: Yes, he sure did. Eric was bothered last season by the quad injury, but he was impressive athletically. He is a big safety, very strong, he ran well and he has great leaping skills. I really think Eric's biggest strength is also his biggest weakness. He is aggressive and last season he took some bad angles in the coverage part of the game being too aggressive.

He told me he was working really hard on his pass coverge techniques because in college you can kinda grind that receiver downfield a bit. In the NFL after five yards you have to let him be.

Eric is my 3rd best safety in this draft behind Texas' Kenny Vaccaro and Florida's Matt Elam. He was going into the Combine and is the same coming out.

Reid is a good football player and tough in run support. Last season he just seemed to be out of position at times and just not taking the right angle to the ball or the receiver. He was just too overaggressive to make plays and to be honest he was overcompensating for the loss of Mathieu and at times trying to do too much. He has got to be more disciplined in this area.

His workouts at the Combine were outstanding and I really think he ends up being one of the top ten picks in Round 2.

Scott: The Combine doesn't tell the whole story about Kevin Minter?

Mike: No it doesn't. He worked out pretty well, but he is 100% football player. Just great instincts, tough against the run, but he does need work on dropping back into his pass coverage spots better. You saw that during the season and also in the field drills.

He's a better athlete than people give him credit for. And I love his toughness, his nose for the ball and his physicality. You can't measure that with "Bruce Jenner" workouts.

I really think Minter goes late in Round One. Baltimore would be a great fit for him with the retirement of Ray Lewis.

Scott: How about Lavar Edwards? He seems to get overlooked in this process.

Mike: Scott, it's a great point and I see him as a later 3rd or early 4th round pick. He really worked out well, he is just so athletic and quick and his showing here in Indianapolis and also at the Senior Bowl has helped him.

He reminds me so much of Chris Clemons when he came out of Georgia.

Clemons went undrafted and he had a stint in Philadelphia before they dealt him off the Seattle. And he has been a terrific edge rusher once he got more experience. I really like Lavar and you could see him come around as a player this past season. This Combine workout and the Senior Bowl has upped his draft stock.

Scott: I know you like Bennie Logan, what about Bennie's stock?

Mike: I thought Bennie did pretty well also. He is such a strong inside player, but quick for his size. I really think he is the most underrated football on this team. He reminds me so much of La'Roi Glover when he played for the Saints.

Very explosive player, quick off the snap and he is a good technician.

This is a pretty thick year for defensive tackles, but i still see Logan going in the middle of Round 2.

Scott: Sam Montgomery?

Mike: I had him as a 20's pick in Round One and I really think that is where he ends up. He tested well athletically, he has added some muscle to his frame over the last year and yet he still has those quick-twitch skills you want in a defensive end.

He certainly is a more physical and a more powerful player than Mingo and he will play that base 4-3 defensive end. He has good pass rush skills and when his motor is hot, he's a big time performer.

Now, it's interesting to hear what I think all of us knew and that he kind of played to the level of competition. It's honest, but very few people would say it.

I see him as a 20's pick in Round One and team him with Logan and Edwards and it continues the trend that makes LSU Defensive Lineman-U. It will be 10 straight years that an LSU defensive lineman gets picked in the draft. No school in America can say that other than LSU.

Scott: Barkevious Mingo?

Mike: He lit it up didn't he? Whoa. He will play as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment in the pros and he should the foot speed, explosiveness and agility in space to excel in that department. I thought he would go in the top-20,but I am convinced now he is a top 15 pick. If he is there when the Saints pick at 15 they have to take him.

Just a marvelous athlete and the Combine really put that element in light.

It is just so hard to get pass rushers today that I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the top-12. Long, real lean athlete with superb athleticism and the ability to roam in space. Very impressed with his workouts, but I really think he ends up being a better pro than a college player. He reminds me of Lamarr Woodley the Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker. He just jumps off the snap in a flash. He needs to get stronger, but he is quite the athlete.

Scott: Mike, does the comparison fit to Kevin Minter on defense and Spencer Ware on offense and that these drills don't tell the whole story?

Mike: Scott, that is exactly right. Spencer is one of the most violent runners in this draft class, but what sometimes gets overlooked is his receiving skills, his pass protection ability and he gives great effort on every play. He is a terrific inside runner with excellent vision and he has enough scoot to make plays to the edge.

Really good all-around player, but he has had some off the field issues and he can't put his career on the line for that.

Really I think he is a better prospect now than Steven Ridley was when he came out of LSU. I think he will go in Round 4.

Scott: What about Michael Ford?

Mike: Michael is a terrific athlete and it showed up at the Combine. He is very strong, very fast to turn the corner and he is a really good inside runner. He also brings to the table kickoff return skills and he is a pretty good receiver coming out of the backfield. Ford is the best all-around athlete from a physical standpoint that LSU has. He doesn't have a lot of rubber off the ties either. I would grade him a 5th or 6th round pick.

Scott: What is the evaluation on Chris Faulk?

Mike: It will depend on his health. If he is healthy and runs pretty well then I think he ends up a late 2nd or early 3th round pick. You get great value here. Faulk was one of the top three left tackles in the nation to start the season along with Luke Joeckel and Taylor Lewan from Michigan. Chris is strong, knows how to use his hands and long arms well and he is a good technician. Now, I want him to lose some weight around his belly and become a knee-bender instead of a waist-bender, but he is very talented. Just a real strong roadgrading run blocker and he is pretty good as a pass protector. Health will determine where he ends up, but I know he has a strong work ethic and he will really work hard to get in the best of shape. If my medical staff gives me the two thumbs up then I would love to see him there in Round 3. His workouts at LSU for Pro Day will be important.

Scott: P.J. Lonergan was surprised to get a Combine Invite. Do you think he gets drafted?

Mike: Yes, I think he gets picked late (6th or 7th round). Combo player who will work at guard and center. He's real strong, especially in the upper-body and he's a good technician. He's a role player in the NFL. Hopefully he can stay healthy because he was nicked up some as a sophomore and junior. I just wish he would be a more take-charge guy to get people in the right spot upfront. That was something Todd McClure had. He took charge as a leader and he was like a QB. at center.

Scott: Brad Wing, punters don't get drafted often. What's his chances?

Mike: He's the most gifted punter in this draft class. Great leg and handtime and one of the best directional punters I have graded in a long time. I think he's a 5th round pick. He changes field position instantly with his booms. He needs to grow up some, but he's so gifted.

Scott: You do a lot of prep evaluation, what about Donnie Alexander and Ed Paris?

Mike: Donnie is a quick striker. The first time I saw him he reminded me so much of Harry Coleman when he came out of West St. Mary. At LSU he was hybrid player and I see a lot of Coleman in Alexander. He is like a heat seeking missile and he just flies to the ball. He will get bigger and stronger and I really think he will play weakside linebacker at LSU. He is a really good athlete and he can throw that body in reverse quick.

Wow. what can I say about Paris. Ed is a real lengthy cornerback with great ball skills and he is someone that plays with a certain swagger. He needs some work with his footwork and backpedal techniques, but his size match-up against the bigger ends continues that great trend of big cornerbacks at LSU. Every coach I have talked to tells me he will play and play fast in college and be really good. Watching him on tape you can see his speed, his wingspan and his ability to plant that foot in the ground and then speed to the football. Watching him on tape he looks like a taller version of Joe Haden, now the Cleveland Browns, when he was at Florida.

We were close to losing it - Control The Dream - Prima donna

 Tinker:

We were close to losing it. Slowly drifting away from us like a warrior who was not needed any more. All the mistakes were accumulating into a drowning pool dragging our fighting spirits down. No said Les Miles, "I'm not satisfied with the direction of my LSU football team any longer." I see that the Ravens are making a big mistake of their own, by firing Cam Cameron. I know Cam Cameron said Les Miles, and he is a real offensive football coordinator. Hay Cam how about coming on over to coach our LSU fighting tigers football team here at LSU? Cam said, "yes."

And I swear to high heaven that the thing is back. I'm walking taller, speaking easier. Because the fighting tiger spark is indeed back, deep inside me again. Damn the torpedoes straight ahead!!! Lets go tear Bryant/Denny Stadium down...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqvnV5Hq26s&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Tinker:

Ha ha ha...lol. This is a crummy kind of after effect that we the people seem to be receiving from this guy, president Obama. That is really not helpful to all the American people. I have no idea what he think that America should be doing about this country's problems. I really don't even know if he truly cares. All I seem to see is a guy trying to be a Prima donna without the ability of one.
Maybe if Obama was good at something else beside reading. Our country could get the government running better for everyone?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gj5L9SYhoSE
----------------------
ALSO:

The United States seem like its society is getting more corrupt than better. Because everywhere that I look and read I see someone wanting to ether ignore the Law, or bend a rule. Fixing the game to serve their self interest. On and on, even into college football. Rules that were instituted into the NCAA with the intention to keep college football on a amateur level. Is now getting pushed on my sports writers, self interest businessmen, to let the flood gate open to give extra payment to the college football players.

People who want to pay the college football players these days, are just another addition to the band wagon mobster. Looking for a piece of the American people fools pie. More is never enough for crooks. Because they never earn the money that they get honestly anyway. Crooks are by nature dishonest. Selling anything from armature athletic. Sporting brand, and goods, is wrong according to the NCAA laws that intends to keep amateurs athletics a sporing game for armature. If you want to make money from athletics, turn pro.
Leave the college university's alone, and mind your business?

But I just might be in a minority in 2013 because I see that some of the polls on the subject has most of the America people falling for that fools gold again.
Take a look?

Has Miami Suffered Enough?
Greg Cote and Andy Katz discuss the NCAA's handling of its probe into Miami's athletic department.Tags: Donna Shalala, Greg Cote, Andy Katz, Nevin Shapiro, College Sports, OTL, Outisde The Lines
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The NCAA is alleging that former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro was responsible for providing about $170,000 in impermissible benefits to Hurricanes athletes, recruits, coaches and others between 2002 and 2010.

Shapiro allegedly spent more than half that amount -- at least $90,000 -- in an effort to get NFL players Vince Wilfork and Antrel Rolle to sign with a sports agency he was involved with, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because neither Miami nor the NCAA has publicly released the allegations.

Also included in the allegations: That Shapiro spent at least another $56,000 on "meals, entertainment, clothing, jewelry, travel, lodging and cash" on football players, recruits and others. The NCAA alleged that Shapiro spent that on 72 then-players, three recruits and 12 "friends and family members" of those either on the team or being recruited by the school.

Virtually all of the Hurricane players listed as receiving some sort of extra benefit from Shapiro left the program several years ago.

The figures that the NCAA's enforcement staff cited in the notice of allegations add up to a significantly lower total than what Shapiro told Yahoo! Sports in 2011, when he estimated his extra-benefit spending spree as going into the "millions of dollars."

If true, the NCAA only listed a sliver of that in the allegations. The figures that were sent to Miami also were described as "approximate total values."

The NCAA said Shapiro also provided extra benefits in the forms of impermissible supplemental compensation to at least three former Miami assistant coaches, along with travel benefits and other items.

Miami received its notice of allegations, ones that included a lack of institutional control for failing to properly monitor Shapiro's activities as a booster, last week. It also includes charges that three former assistant coaches broke what's known as the NCAA's Rule 10.1 -- governing ethical conduct -- by misleading the investigation. Two of those former assistants have asked that their cases be thrown out because of problems the NCAA acknowledged with the way it conducted the probe.

The NCAA's Committee on Infractions wants to hear the case in June.

The Hurricanes have already self-imposed several sanctions, including sitting out two bowl games and a conference football championship game. Miami president Donna Shalala said on two occasions last week that she believes those punishments should be enough.

Shapiro is serving a 20-year prison term for masterminding a $930 million Ponzi scheme.

LSU2015 Update from William Jenkins

To:  LSU System Faculty, Staff and Students
From:  William Jenkins
Date:  February 26, 2013
Re:  LSU 2015

The process for the reshaping of LSU is well underway and it is my hope you are following and participating in the process. These are historic times as we have engaged faculty, staff, students and alumni from across the state to help create an LSU that can compete and excel in the rapidly changing environment of higher education in the 21st century.

More than 75 individuals from across the LSU System are participating in a series of meetings that will change LSU forever. You can monitor the progress of this re-organization process – called LSU2015 – by going to www.lsu.edu/LSU2015. Also, we are making every effort to stream each meeting live via the Internet. You can find all of the live streams and archived videos at www.lsu.edu/tat.

LSU’s Transition Advisory Team, the 10-member panel tasked with investigating best practices and developing information for the LSU Board of Supervisors in the re-organization process, has already met three times.  Among those meetings was a day-long Immersion Workshop when the Team heard from Dr. Stan Ikenberry, the former president of the University of Illinois and of the American Council of Education, who provided insight into the efforts of other universities to prepare for the challenges of the future.  Other expert testimony will be employed to bring as much expertise to the process as possible

Five sub-committees have also been commissioned in the areas of Academics, Finance and Revenue, Research and Discovery, Student Experience, and Technology and Operations.  The sub-committees are designed to generate information in specific areas of focus and will meet no less than three times each in order to produce reports to the Transition Advisory Team. Every sub-committee will have met at least once by the end of this month.

To dig even deeper into each of those areas, Task Force Groups have been created to focus on specific areas of priority. There are six Task Force Groups working on various subjects related to re-organization. These areas include commercialization and technology transfer, streamlining, external affairs, administrative services, revenue generation and technology.

I encourage you to follow this process closely because it affects everyone on every campus in the LSU System. All meeting schedules are posted at www.lsu.edu/LSU2015, as well as all presentations seen by the committees and press releases summarizing the discussions. I also encourage you to share your thoughts by writing to president@lsu.edu.

Thank you for your continued service to and support of LSU.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

LSU’s spring football practice session is only 15 days away, and it should be a very interesting one. I’m looking forward to seeing how new offensive coordinator Coach Cam Cameron interacts with the team and staff, and how the two early enrollee freshmen quarterbacks play into things. The starting quarterback job is clearly senior Zach Mettenberger’s, but it will be interesting to see if the two new hotshot quarterbacks challenge Steven Rivers for the No. 2 role. Remember, under Cameron’s direction in San Diego, Rivers’ older brother, Philip Rivers, was very successful and earned a Pro Bowl selection in his first season as a starter.

While on the topic of football, LSU was very well represented in the NFL combine that ended yesterday. I had hoped to have something special for you today on the combine, but it's not quite ready yet. What I'm working on is another interview with NFL Draft Expert Michael Detillier, and I hope to have it ready to share with you tomorrow morning. In the meantime, here are a few tid-bits from yesterday's testing of the defensive backs:

• Tyrann Mathieu was clocked unofficially at 4.43 in the 40 and had a very good overall showing. Check out this video of Deion Sanders breaking down Mathieu's past and how he will overcome it to have an outstanding career in the NFL. Sanders speaks very highly of Mathieu and calls him a “Baller” who will have big success in the NFL.

• Eric Reid was clocked at 4.53 in the 40. At 6'1" 1/4, 213, that is nothing to sneeze at.
• Tharold Simon was clocked at 4.48 in the 40.

In baseball news, LSU improved to 7-1 with an 11-2 win over UL-Lafayette in in front of a sellout crowd at Moore Field. The Tigers collected 14 hits in the game, and now have an incredible 33 hits and 24 runs in their last two outings.

God's on earth have a different standard than the one and only god in heaven. And 'Viva il papa' to Benedict !!

Tinker:

If you can dance, all is forgiven!

If you are Michael Jackson who slept with a bed load of children, night after night. And he kept getting a free pass because he could really dance from the Gods on earth. And Chris Brown can beat up on Rihanna just for fun, and also get a free pass. Because did you see that Chris Brown can also really dance.

So then the gods on planet earth is partial to people who can really dance. Totally different from the one and only god in heaven. Because if you can dance good or not in heaven. Sleeping with underage children, and beating on women for fun. Sends you straight into Hell from the God in heaven.

So my advice to Chris Brown is, prepared to put your dancing shoes on for Lucifer. Because the Gods on earth might let your heavenly sinful ways slide by on this planet. But the God in heaven will get the very last word about your sins from your life on earth. See ya don't want to be yeah.

'Viva il papa' to Benedict !!

Looking at a man who spent a lifetime of devotion to Jesus Christ. Pope Benedict xvi is stepping  down from his job because he feels like that his job needs a stronger body, to spread the christian faith. I hope that we all can have a friend like him to be with from time to time. Because nothing on this earth lifts my spirit better then great friendship between people. I am so very glad that Pope Benedict xvi had good weather to speak his peace. Someone that I really feel like clapping my hands for. 'Viva il papa' to Benedict !!

LSU Football: Why Zach Mettenberger Has the Most to Prove in Spring Practice

By (Featured Columnist) on February 25, 2013

Uspw_6637914_crop_exact
Zach Mettenberger stepped on LSU’s campus looking for a second chance.

In 2013 he has the chance to lead the Tigers back to SEC glory, but it all starts with improving his game this spring.

After starting his career at Georgia, an arrest dropped him from the Bulldogs squad.  Mettenberger then spent a season at Butler Community College before landing  in Baton Rouge.

Returning to the SEC was a major step for this talented quarterback, but his first year as an outright starter was a major leap back from expectations. This spring he has to show a lot of growth if the Tigers want to return to championship level this fall.

This is the same quarterback that battled Aaron Murray for the starting job at Georgia four years ago. It is the same guy that was expected to be a dark-horse Heisman candidate heading into last season.

Instead, Mettenberger struggled in the first game against North Texas, and then hit a skid midseason that saw three straight games with less than 50 percent completions—the last contest completing just 37.9 percent.

It was a struggle at times to find consistency, and the expectations seemed to weigh heavily on the Bayou Bengals' starting signal-caller.
By seasons end Mettenberger was 207-of-352 for 2,609 passing yards. He also had 12 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. It was not a bad season, but it was a far cry from what was expected.

One stat that gets overlooked but impacted his game greatly was sacks. Mettenberger was brought down 32 times last year, and 15 of those came in the first six games.

LSU struggled to find consistency upfront offensively with injuries that plagued the offensive line early. The season finished with two freshmen playing consistently along the front.

Vadal Alexander finished the year as a starter and is one of the best linemen currently on roster.

This has to be a huge developmental spring for Mettenberger. He has a team that is loaded with talent and should challenge for the SEC this season. There were hiccups a year ago, but those issues should be gone.

Mettenberger is the key to LSU’s championship hopes. According to Scott Rabalais with the The Advocate in Baton Rouge, Mettenberger “would like to win an SEC title as a starter. The national championship of course is on his goal board as well, as is winning the Heisman Trophy.”

All of those things are achievable for Mettenberger at LSU with the road being paved this spring.

"LSU fans turn it up," was the tweet from Edward Paris announcing his commitment to the program.

LSU fans, slow your roll. That should have been the disclaimer that followed.
History suggests that LSU should consider slowing its recruiting Texas.
Monday night when Paris, a top-ranked safety from Mansfield (Texas) Timberview, pledged to the program, it sounded the alarm for another LSU victory recruiting in Texas -- the state that consistently has produced the most FBS signees on an annual basis.

Of the six commitments that LSU has secured in the class of 2014, two are top-ranked players from the Lone Star State -- Paris is the No. 38 player in the Rivals100, and Chris Hardeman of Houston (Texas) Alief is No. 199 in the Rivals250.
History suggests that they may not pan out in Baton Rouge.

Edward Paris is ranked 38th in the Rivals100.
LSU has signed 15 players from Texas inside the Rivals250 since the rankings were introduced, and the overwhelming majority have failed to live up to the hype.
Paris and Hardeman hope to change that trend.

Paris followed his commitment tweet with one explaining his decision: "It has been a long and hard decision to make as the schools I visited showed me much love and support as it related to me growing personally."

Hardeman was the first commit to the class. He has taken to shepherding others to join him.
"I want to recruit the best players I can for my class to play with me," Hardeman told Rivals.com. "I want to play with the best, and I know guys want to play with other good players. I feel like I'm doing that right now. Hopefully, by the time February rolls around next year, we'll have the No. 1 class in the country."

The No. 1 class is possible in Baton Rouge.
Following the commitment of Paris, LSU has five players in the class rated as four-star prospects by Rivals.com. The Tigers have the potential to land multiple five-star players. The top running back in the country and the top offensive tackle in the country -- Leonard Fournette and Cameron Robinson, respectively -- are considered LSU leans.

While it is well documented that top-ranked Louisiana players seldom leave the state, Rivals.com looks back at the highest-ranked players LSU has pulled out of Texas and what happened while they were on campus.

    LSU'S TOP RECRUITS FROM TEXAS
Russell Shepard, No. 7 in class of 2009 Houston (Texas) Cypress Ridge, dual-threat quarterback
What happened at LSU: Shepard never carved out a spot for himself on the roster and ultimately saw his playing time and his positive impact on the team dwindle. His greatest season on the field was as a sophomore when he rushed for 226 years and had another 254 receiving. His junior season saw him receive a suspension, and as a senior he started only game and made just six catches in a crowded receiver group.

Terrance Tolliver, No. 13 in class of 2007 Hempstead (Texas) High, wide receiver
What happened at LSU: Tolliver led the Tigers with 41 receptions in 2010, good for 579 yards and five TDs. He started twice as a true freshman and twice as a sophomore before blossoming into a full-time starter as a junior in 2009. His junior season was his best; he had 53 catches for 735 yards and three touchdowns. For his career, he had 126 catches -- including 12 TD receptions -- for 1,820 yards.

Craig Loston, No. 20 in class of 2009 Aldine (Texas) Eisenhower, safety
What happened at LSU: Loston played sparingly his first few seasons before emerging as the starting safety late in his career. This past season, he was fifth on the team with 55 tackles in his 12 starts and was named to the All-SEC second team. He had a 100-yard interception return against Mississippi State last year, which tied an LSU, SEC and NCAA record and helped win the game.
    MORE FROM TEXAS
The Rivals.com rankings did not expand to a numbered Rivals250 until the Class of 2008, so players ranked before then were not numerically listed except for in the Rivals100 and within their states. LSU signed several players from the class of 2002 to the class of 2008 who were four-star players inside the Rivals250. Here are the top five from that span.
    R.J. Jackson, Houston (Texas) Westside
No. 18 player in Texas, class of 2005
    Tremaine Johnson, Galena Park (Texas)
No. 19 player in Texas, class of 2004
    Jarvis Jones, Rosenberg (Texas) Consolidated
No. 20 player in Texas, class of 2007
    Ron Brooks, Irving (Texas) MacArthur
No. 21 player in Texas, class of 2007
    Jarrett Lee, Brenham (Texas)
No. 25 player in Texas, class of 2007

Herman Johnson, No. 30 in class of 2004 Denton (Texas) High, offensive lineman
What happened at LSU: Johnson was the largest baby ever born in the state of Louisiana at 15 pounds, 14 ounces. He started 38 of 52 games for the Tigers and was a member of the 2007 BCS championship team. He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals but cut and then signed by the Chicago Bears before being released.

Tim Washington, No. 100 in class of 2003 Sugar Land Dulles, strongside defensive end
What happened at LSU: Washington played in nine games during his career and largely was used in a reserve role with a stellar defensive line group ahead of him. He transferred to Appalachian State, where he played in 11 games as a senior and had 37 solo tackles with 10 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks.

Chancey Aghayere, No. 121 in class of 2008 Garland (Texas) High, defensive tackle
What happened at LSU: Aghayere was mostly organizational depth as his career went on at LSU. He peaked in playing time as a sophomore with two starts in 12 games. He ended his career with six starts in 42 games, finishing with 44 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, and 2.0 sacks. He graduated in December and could sign a free agent contract with limited hopes of cracking an NFL roster.

Michael Brockers, No. 201 in class of 2009 Houston (Texas) Chavez, strongside defensive end
What happened at LSU: Brockers redshirted his freshman year but was an immediate impact player once he was on the field. He saw action in 13 games as a redshirt freshman as a backup and made his first start last season against Alabama, recording four tackles in the victory. As a sophomore, he started all 13 games and was named second-team All-SEC. He declared for the draft after that season and was selected in the first round by the St. Louis Rams. He made 31 tackles and four sacks as a rookie in 2012.

Evan Washington, No. 207 in class of 2010 DeSoto (Texas) High, offensive tackle
What happened at LSU: After redshirting as a freshman, Washington was injured early in his second year at LSU, causing him not to play a snap. As a redshirt sophomore, he was still working his way into a role on the team and was organizational depth.

Zach Lee, No. 217 in class of 2010 McKinney (Texas) High, pro-style quarterback
What happened at LSU: Lee was a two-sport star, and it was never a sure thing for him to wind up on campus. He was selected in the first round of the MLB draft and signed his pro contract. He was on campus for a summer semester during which he participated for two weeks of summer drills and took classes before leaving for baseball. He is currently the No. 78 prospect in baseball, according to MiLB.com.

David Jenkins, No. 222 in class of 2011 Carrollton (Texas) Hebron, cornerback
What happened at LSU: Jenkins was redshirted upon his arrival at LSU and did not like his role with the team, so he transferred to TCU. He sat out the 2012 season because of NCAA transfer rules.

One of the nation's top cornerbacks for 2014 committed to LSU on Monday, notifying fans via Twitter:

Ed Paris of Mansfield (Texas) High School chose LSU over Texas and Florida.
Paris, 6 feet 1 and 190 pounds, is rated as one of the best defensive backs in the nation by numerous scouting services.

"Everything just feels right at LSU. The coaches, the fans and the football program are all top notch," Paris, clad in an LSU hat and T-shirt, said Sunday at the New Level Athletics 7-on-7 tournament in Rockledge, Fla.

Paris, along with 2015 Tigers commitment Kevin Toliver, a cornerback from Trinity Christian School in Jacksonville, Fla., openly recruited for LSU at the event.

Paris, who's originally from New Orleans, is LSU's sixth commitment for 2014, joining Karr linebacker Donnie Alexander, Alief Taylor (Houston) cornerback Chris Hardeman, Westlake tight end Jacory Washington, Brother Martin offensive lineman William Clapp and Wilkinson County (Woodville, Miss.) safety Devin Voorhies.
