Lucky Sunday

Tinker:

People do have the same features of each other like eyes, nose, mouth, color, height and weight, sex, race. But the expression of their personality are what starts to take on a look of individuality. The way that we think and feel is the window into our emotions that make us who we are.

We have no say so what so ever about who we were born to, and the world as it is will be the reality of how we will live in it. The way that we look is inherited from the generations before us. But even after knowing all of that a lot of people do not make decisions according to fact that they studded from real data. Just what does the facts tell us about what we want to know.

Doctors are the kind of people that make decisions from test and proven treatment. Facts will be their guide when they try and fix or help the patient.

The point of this is to try and educate more and more people with the facts and not otherwise. Because if we read and study the wrong or wasteful subjects, how can we become educated with facts that can advance your education.

Why are some people luckier then others?

I did see a ghost once before:

As I was walking from the buss stop uptown New Orleans, 8:00 o'clock at night, and when I was getting close to home I realized that something was looking at me and I was not suppose to know. When I looked to see across the street from the direction that I felt the stare. I saw a woman figure draped in a smoky dim white cover except for her face.

The face was a black shadow that stop me from seeing her eyes. But it was her postures that seem familiar to me. We both were startled out of our minds because we were looking at each other, and we were not suppose to be able to do that. But we were anyway.

I quickly turned my face forward in the direction I was walking but a sudden excitement was starting to build up around me. So I looked one more time. This time I only saw the upper half of the figure that was still looking at me from behind a upright cement grave that was never built in that spot before.

God I am going through something that I could not even imagine. A women that looks formula, dressed in a white smokey shroud, looking at me from a dark empty space where her face should be. Standing halfway behind a cement tomb, or grave that I knew was never built on that spot before.

The figure floated across the street along with my movement forward on my side.  Except the ghostly figure moved very quickly.

Well that was enough for me and I started running as fast as I could, And if there is one thing that I can do well, is run fast.

My father ask me, "what was wrong." And I told him that, " I just saw a ghost."

I think that the ghost was my mother, And that she was living in some kind of suspicion, some form of animation between heaven and hell, she was waiting for someone.

I recognized her posture in the way that she was standing, her body language was the same as a spirit as when she was alive in her life with me. And because she was the only person that I knew that I thought might indeed make it into heaven after her passing, the rest of us was surely going to hell.
--------
And today is Easter Sunday:

Jesus went to a very cruel death on good Friday so we the people could be forgiven of our sins by the father (God). Through Jesus example we now know the path to walk if we really want to live in paradise with the Father. So now it is totally up to us?

We are sinners and we must get forgiveness from God or suffer the recurring failures of our choices and sins.

God must have become a little lonely I suppose, so he created the Universe and all that is in it. He made us in his image giving to us the free will to choose what we want, when we want it. The rest is his domain forever.

This apparently is not an easy cushion that we were born to. So if you believe that Jesus rose from the dead on the third day, then you are indeed blessed. Because that is a lot to ask of us, to reach the side of God in paradise through faith and no other way. I truly hope that we can make it?

Tennessee teen dies after touching, personal prom

Katelyn Norman, like many 14-year-olds, deeply wanted to attend her first prom. She listed the milestone dance on her bucket list of experiences she wanted most after her doctor told her she would not survive her two-year struggle with bone cancer. Katelyn was too weak to attend the prom planned especially for her. Instead, her Campbell County community organized a heart-shaped candlelight vigil outside her hospital room, as friends and family — including a date in a white suit — held a prom just for Katelyn inside. Katelyn died Friday morning, leaving loved ones to celebrate her life, mourn her loss and know they made at least one of her dreams come true. [Source]

Matthew 14:13-21 (New International Version)

Matthew 14:13-21

New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.
18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

Matthew 16:13-20

New International Version (NIV)

Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[a] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[b] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[c] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[d] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Dandy Don'd LSU Sports Report

Good morning, Tiger Fans. I hope all of you are enjoying your Easter weekend holiday.
Today we’ll start with baseball news as the No. 2 LSU Tigers defeated Missouri last night by a score of 2-0 in Game 1 of the three-game series at Missouri. With the win, the Tigers have now won six consecutive games and are 24-2 overall and 6-1 in the SEC.

Starting pitcher Aaron Nola had a great night and fired seven and two-thirds shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and only one walk. Chris Cotton entered the game in relief with two outs and two on and forced a fielder's choice to get out of the jam, and then secured the victory in the ninth on two strikeouts and a fielder's choice after giving up a leadoff single.

The Tigers were led at the plate by the team's top two hitters, Alex Bregman and Mason Katz, who each went 2-for-4 on the night. Katz got the Tigers on the scoreboard in the 4th on a solo home run, his 11th homer of the season. LSU added an unearned run in the eighth when Missouri’s second-baseman misplayed Raph Rhymes’ ground ball, allowing Andrew Stevenson to score.

Game 2 of the series begins at for 1 p.m. today and will be televised by Fox Sports Net. LSU is scheduled to start junior right-hander Ryan Eades (5-0, 1.63), while Missouri is expected to counter with sophomore righty Brett Graves (0-2, 2.64).

Since the LSU football team is off for Spring Break, there's not much to report on the football front other than this little recruiting-related tid-bit. LSU target Tony Brown (CB, 6'0", 185, Beaumont, TX) broke his own nation-best time in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.62 seconds. Brown is a 5-star defensive back who plays safety in high school but projects as a cornerback at the next level. His sister will be attending LSU on a track and field scholarship, and that bodes very well for LSU's chances of landing Brown. If you've been following this site for a while you know that my Dad (Don) used to always say, “speed kills on the highway and on the football field," and if LSU lands Brown for 2014 to go along with elite speedsters Jeryl Brazil and Rashard Robinson from this year's class, LSU will certainly be dangerously fast. I'm hearing that LSU is in very good shape with Brown and that his commitment could come sooner than later. Here is Tony Brown's latest highlight video by MaxPreps.

Dandy Don'd LSU Sports Report
The LSU football team held its second scrimmaged of the spring yesterday and Coach Miles dished out a few statistics and comments on it afterwards. Unlike the first scrimmage where the team focused primarily on 1st-and-10 situations, yesterday's scrimmage included a lot of 3rd down situations and more. In this video of the post-practice press release by nola.com, it's clear that Coach Miles was not entirely satisfied with the offense's performance, as he called it sloppy and cited mistakes such as offsides, bad center-quarterback exchanges, cadence problems, and a fumble, although he insisted that the offense is much improved and if they can correct the little things they will be very good. Coach Miles said the defense had a good day and praised defensive end Jermauria Rasco who had five tackles and three sacks. Miles also said Loston had some big plays and that the secondary played physical. The first player Miles praised on the offensive side was Terrance Magee who he said had a good scrimmage. He also spoke highly of center Ethan Pocic and tackle Jerald Hawkins. One thing I found interesting is that Miles said wide receiver Travin Dural is still a little “nicked” but that he has the potential to be one of the team's better receivers when he's 100%. He also said that defensive end Jordan Allen is no longer wearing the green no-contact jersey and that it is too early to tell whether Allen or Danielle Hunter would win the starting defensive end position opposite of Rasco.

Here are a few stats on the scrimmage from Coach Miles:

• Zach Mettenberger - 21-of-35 for 247 yards, one TD and one INT
• Stephen Rivers - 3-of-9 (no yardage given)
• Anthony Jennings - 4-of-9 (no yardage given)
• Jarvis Landry - seven receptions (no yardage given)
• Avery Peterson - four receptions for 60 yards
• Dillon Gordon - four receptions for 40 yards
• Odell Beckham - two receptions for 30 yards
• Jeremy Hill - three receptions for 7 yards
• Terrance Magee - seven carries for 76 yards, 1 TD
• Kenny Hilliard - 20 carries for 90 yards
• Jeremy Hill - 13 carries for 60 yards

To be an LSU Tigers fan, you have to appreciate grown-man football.

To be a fan of LSU, you have to love beating teams down with physical play. To root on the Tigers, you have to acknowledge the past.

The words "Cannon," "Halloween night" and "Bluegrass Miracle" have to touch your soul. The sound of the Golden Band from Tigerland and the sight of Tiger Stadium have to render you speechless. These are the characteristics of a diehard LSU fan, but there are many more traits to go along with these.

Furthermore, you know you're an LSU fan if...click onto http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1581877-10-ways-you-know-youre-an-lsu-tigers-fan

SEC bonanza in the NFL draft

March, 29, 2013

By Chris Low | ESPN.com

ESPN analyst Todd McShay projects that 11 SEC players will be taken Insider in the first round of next month's NFL draft, which would tie the SEC record for most first-rounders in one draft.

The SEC produced 11 first-rounders in the 2007 draft. The record for any conference is 12 first-rounders, which was set by the ACC in 2006.

Of the 11 SEC players McShay projects to go in the first round this year, six are from Alabama and Georgia. His No. 1 overall pick is Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel.

Here's a look at where McShay has the SEC players going in the first round:

No. 1: Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M (Kansas City Chiefs)
No. 6: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama (Cleveland Browns)
No. 8: Chance Warmack, OG, Alabama (Buffalo Bills)
No. 9: Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU (New York Jets)
No. 10: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida (Tennessee Titans)
No. 14: Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri (Carolina Panthers)
No. 15: Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia (New Orleans Saints)
No. 16: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee (St. Louis Rams)
No. 17: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia (Pittsburgh Steelers)
No. 19: D.J. Fluker, OT, Alabama (New York Giants)
No. 31: Johnathan Jenkins, DT, Georgia (San Francisco 49ers)

McShay also has nine SEC players going in the second round of his latest mock draft.

Of note, he doesn't have any running backs going in the first round. In fact, the first running back he has coming off the board is Alabama's Ed Lacy at No. 46 overall to the St. Louis Rams. McShay's second running back to be drafted might surprise a few people -- Texas A&M's Christine Michael going No. 53 to the Cincinnati Bengals.

McShay only has five quarterbacks going in the first two rounds, and none from the SEC.

Some of the SEC players who have dropped from earlier projections during the season are Texas A&M defensive end Damontre Moore and LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery, both projected as second-rounders by McShay.

One of the fastest risers in the SEC is South Carolina safety D.J. Swearinger, who is pegged to go No. 55 overall to the Green Bay Packers. Two of the most heralded SEC defensive backs last season -- Mississippi State's Johnthan Banks and LSU's Eric Reid -- are not projected by McShay to go in the first two rounds.

Tigers to take week off for Spring Break before returning to practice

By Tiger Rag News Services

BATON ROUGE - Quarterback Zach Mettenberger had another big day, completing 21-of-35 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown, while Jermauria Rasco had five tackles, including three sacks, as LSU wrapped up its third week of spring practice with a scrimmage on Thursday afternoon in Tiger Stadium.

LSU, now nine practices into spring drills, will take next week off for spring break before returning for its final six workouts on April 7. The annual National L Club Spring Game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 in Tiger Stadium. Admission is free to the spring game.

“I think our team is making improvement,” head coach Les Miles said following the scrimmage. “We were sloppy at times on the offensive side of the ball. The offense is really much improved it’s just that they’re shooting themselves in the foot and they have to understand that we are not going to play football that way.

“Again, the offense is much improved, but we just have to eliminate those fundamental things. I think we have talented players who can make big plays. the quarterback is throwing the ball better, but we have to improve on the little things.”

Miles said Thursday’s scrimmage featured a lot of third down situations as well as the 2-minute drill. LSU also spent time on all phases of the kicking, game.

Some of the things that Miles said the Tigers have to correct on offense include penalties, the center-quarterback exchange and protecting the football. Miles noted that the offense scored four touchdowns on the day, including twice against the No. 1 defense.

Other offensive standouts for the Tigers included running back Kenny Hilliard, who led all rushers with 90 yards on 20 carries.  Terrence Magee added 76 rushing yards, including an 11-yard TD run, on seven attempts, while Jeremy Hill had 60 yards on 13 carries. Alfred Blue was again held out as he continues to work his way back onto the field after suffering a season-ending injury last fall.

For the second straight scrimmage, Jarvis Landry led all receivers with seven catches for 77 yards, which included a 7-yard TD reception from Mettenberger, Landry also hauled in a 30-yard catch during the workout.

Freshman Avery Peterson followed with four receptions for 60 yards; Dillon Gordon had four catches for 40 yards and Odell Beckham, Jr. added a pair of receptions for 30 yards.

Other quarterbacks who saw action during the scrimmage included sophomore Stephen Rivers, who completed 3-of-9 passes for 30 yards and Anthony Jennings, who connected on 4-of-9 passes for 18 yards. In all, LSU threw for 295 yards and added another 238 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Rasco had his best outing of the spring with five tackles, three of which were sacks. Two of Rasco’s sacks came during the 2-minute drill against the No. 1 offense. Rasco’s final sack of the day came on fourth-and-long and would have ended the contest had it been a real game.

“Rasco had a nice day,” Miles said “He continues to improve with every practice. It looked like (Craig) Loston had a nice day as well. He made some big plays for that defense.

“Defensively, I thought we improved. The defense lined up and did the right things.”

Other defensive leaders for LSU included Loston with four tackles, including one tackle for loss; linebacker Lamin Barrow with four tackles and a fumble recovery, linebacker D.J. Welter with three tackles and freshman defensive tackle Christian LaCouture with four tackles.

Tail of the tape does not a tiger make, because true LSU tigers are made from deep spirited feeling passed on from generations.

Tinker:

I can just about hear the sounds coming from LSU Tiger Stadium now, even in the moments before early spring the fierce competition displayed down on the spring training football practice field is the excitement that generations of Americans have felt for over 100 years now. From the meager beginning that came from the country neighborhood or city playgrounds American football is a game that keeps thrilling the crowds of people over and over again.

How do you tell other people about how much fun LSU fans have watching the LSU fighting tigers play college football in LSU tiger stadium. Sometimes when the bounce of the ball goes just right, it seem like everything?

Stock Report: LSU Pro Day

Which Tigers benefited most from Wednesday’s workouts?

By CODY WORSHAM
Tiger Rag Editor

It doesn’t seem that long ago that Eric Reid, Tharold Simon, and Tyrann Mathieu were freshmen at the 2011 Cotton Bowl flashing NFL potential.

But here it is, more than two years later, and all three of those guys are on the verge of realizing those bright futures.

Those three joined 23 of their former teammates Wednesday at LSU’s annual Pro Day event, working out in front of the media and representatives of all 32 NFL teams, as well as a national audience watching on ESPN3.

Of those 23, several stood out most, including a few guys who were not invited to the NFL Combine earlier this month and needed to put their best foot forward.

Here are the biggest winners from LSU’s Pro Day.

1. Tharold Simon

Of the LSU juniors who declared early for this year’s draft, Simon is considered by many to be the rawest. The 6′2 corner had shown flashes of NFL ability, but his time at LSU was anything but steady, with those flashes sprinkled in with droughts of inconsistency.

But Simon, one of those who was invited to the NFL Combine, was ready to work on Wednesday. He officially ran a 4.5 40, with some reports moving that speed up to a 4.39 40. Simon also impressed in individual drills, showing great quickness and instinct.

Teams will already love Simon’s size on the outside, so his clocking in at 4.39 — even if it was unofficial — could cause him to move up the board. I could see Simon going as high as the third round of the draft, and I can’t see him falling outside of the fourth.

2. Russell Shepard

Shepard’s stock is up, but mostly because he didn’t have much — if any — before showing up for Pro Day.

There’s no need to rehash Shepard’s collegiate career, but after never settling into a position for LSU, he’s reaching to make an NFL roster at a variety of spots.

That’s why Shepard worked out with not just the wide receivers, but also the defensive backs during yesterday’s session.

Let’s be clear: Shepard is not an NFL-ready defensive back. His technique is non-existent, as you would expect of someone who’s never played the position. Shepard really only worked there because, as he said yesterday, around five or six NFL teams asked it of him.

Even Shepard’s individual drills left some to be desired. His hands are not soft enough to play receiver at the next level, at least not yet. His route running is actually pretty good, though, and of course he’s as shifty and explosive as any athlete not named Tavon Austin that’s on the board.

Shepard did run a 4.5 40 — a pretty nice time — and his shuttle and cone drill times were acceptable. But where Shepard made the most ground yesterday was just getting his name out there and showing a willingness to do anything to get into the league.

I still don’t see Shepard going in the draft, but as we all know, it only takes one team.

3. Kevin Minter

The only real question about Minter going into the draft has been his speed. While not a necessity at the middle linebacker position, elite speed is something all NFL scouts look for, and Minter’s 4.8 40 at the NFL Combine left some feeling as if he were more of a late second, early third round type of prospect.

Then Minter posted a 4.67 40 yesterday, putting to rest questions of his speed. That’s a very good time for a middle linebacker, and it puts Minter back in the first round discussion.

Baltimore at pick 32 remains an intriguing possibility, as they need to replace Hall of Famer Ray Lewis in the middle. Minter has the instinct and tackling skills to play immediately in the league, and with a new 40 in his back pocket, it appears he has the speed, too.

4. Chris Faulk

All Chris Faulk did on Wednesday was go through individual drills, after just doing the bench press at the NFL Combine.

That’s really all Faulk needed to do though, showing he can still move his feet coming off multiple knee surgeries.

Faulk looked something short of 100 percent during those drills. He changed direction well on that bad knee, but his push off was still not where it needs to be.

But that’s just fine. Faulk simply needed to show that his knee is improving, and he did just that.

At full health, Faulk is a first round type of talent, and while he won’t fall there this year, a team could take a chance on him in the second or third if it feels his knee is on pace for full health.

All signs point that way, and if Faulk’s knee keeps healing, he could end up not just getting drafted, but starting for a team in need of a left tackle — Saints, anyone? —  come the 2013 season.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

In other football news, LSU will hold its second scrimmage of the spring today and then will enjoy spring break until April 8. Today's scrimmage is closed to the media, so I won't be driving out to Baton Rouge to take notes and shoot video as I have for the last two Thursdays, but I hope to have some stats for you in the morning from today post-scrimmage press conference.

As was the case last week, there will be several prospects attending tomorrow's scrimmage. One prospect who arrived at LSU yesterday is wide receiver Saeed Blacknell (6'2", 190) of Englishtown, New Jersey. You may recall that Backnell is the receiver that LSU offered a few weeks ago. With so many outstanding wide receivers on my list of Top LA Football Prospects for the Class of 2014, it would be easy to question why LSU is looking out of state to fill their needs at the position, but when you see his highlight video, and consider that he's 6-3 and runs a 4.4 forty, it's easy to see why LSU chose to recruit him in spite of the 1,326 miles between his home and Tiger Stadium. I presume that since Blacknell travelled so far to get to LSU that he probably will stay long enough to attend today's scrimmage. Another prospect who will be visiting today is Kendell Ardoin (TE/WR, 6'6", 202) of Ville Platte, No. 31 on my list. According to his coach, Ardoin has seen his recruitment really pick up lately and is getting attention from Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Georgia and others. If any recruiting news breaks, I'll be sure to let those of you who follow DandyDonLSU on Twitter know as soon as I do, and I'll post it here as well.

Tiger Stadium Construction goes vertical

How do you like these apples America?
-----------------------------

Tinker:
Oh by the way let's also start trying to make same sex sexuality a marriage, you know just because we say that same sex people having sex is also a marriage. Just like opposite sex people, right. Then we can also say that cars are really trucks, and apples are just like oranges because we just said that they are. We can simply resolve our money differences between each other by calling a gold brick, a chocolate bar. We are so wise these days that we can do just about anything, right?

Somehow I still don't feel better about America, even though the college students seem to like changing frogs into princes. I keep seeing frogs for some reason. I keep feeling like the rest of the world think that the American people are indeed crazy. American Eagle please bless America, right?

VIDEO: Big Cat drill

Watch as the Tigers go head-to-head.

By LUKE JOHNSON
Tiger Rag Assistant Editor

The Big Cat drill was open to the media again on Tuesday, and there were a couple interesting battles.

I apologize for the angle on the Odell Beckham and Jerqwinick Sandolph battle, Anthony Jennings stepped right in front of me when they were about to go. But Beckham had the best showing of anyone. Also going were Ronnie Feist and Ethan Pocic, Fehoko Fanaika and Quentin Thomas, Evan Washington and Christian LaCouture and Avery Peterson and Jalen Collins. Check them out in this video.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

Lots to report in today's daily dose, but let's start with the news of LSU picking up its 8th football commitment for the class of 2014 in Sharieff Rhaheed (DE/LB 6'2.5", 205, Fort Pierce, FL). You may remember that last week Rhaheed gave his verbal pledge and let it be known that he wanted to be a Tiger, but LSU wanted to get him on campus to meet him in person before making the offer fully committable. Rhaheed visited LSU yesterday, and, according to several reports (and his own tweet) the offer and Rhaheed’s commitment are now official. Rhaheed played several positions on his high school's team and is listed by most recruiting services as a defensive end, but word is that LSU is looking at him as an outside linebacker. Based on Rhaheed’s highlight video, he seems like a nice get for Coach Miles.

In other football news, the Tigers practiced yesterday and will hold a scrimmage tomorrow, but today the folks at LSU will be busy with LSU's Pro Day. The event will allow 28 former Tigers to show what they can do in front of pro scouts in advance of next month’s draft in New York City. I say 28 because on this LSUSports.net Pro Day Page, 21 former Tigers are listed as participants and another seven are listed as “working out” at the event. The 21 participants include Chancey Aghayere, Drew Alleman, Chase Clement, Cleveland Davis, Josh Downs, Josh Dworaczyk, Lavar Edwards, Chris Faulk, Michael Ford, Alex Hurst, Bennie Logan, P.J. Lonergan, Tyrann Mathieu, Barkevious Mingo, Kevin Minter, Sam Montgomery, Eric Reid, Russell Shepard, Tharold Simon, Spencer Ware and Brad Wing. The seven former Tigers working out at Pro Day include Will Blackwell, Karnell Hatcher, T-Bob Hebert, Jordan Jefferson, Jarrett Lee, Alex Russian and Charles Scott.

ESPN3 will provide coverage of Pro Day starting at 1:15 p.m. CT. The former Tigers will actually get started before then with a series of tests including the vertical and broad jumps and the 225-pound bench press. The 40-yard dash, along with various other running drills, will start at 1:15 p.m, and the day will conclude with the players being put through individual position drills.

In baseball news, LSU defeated Tulane last night, 14-1, in a game that was called after eight innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. It was a great game for the Tigers as freshman right-hander Russell Reynolds (1-0) was nearly untouchable, allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out four. And how 'bout those Tiger bats? Alex Bregman continued his amazing hitting and recorded his fifth straight game with at least three hits by going 4-for-4 on the night. Mason Katz finished 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, adding to his NCAA-leading 41 RBI on the season.

NFL Draft 2013

Tyrann Mathieu at LSU pro day

Mathieu Makes His Case
Former LSU CB Tyrann Mathieu discusses why an NFL team should take a chance on him in the draft, how his rehab is going, what he has learned, and what his role in the NFL could be.Tags: Tyrann Mathieu, NFL Draft

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Tyrann Mathieu worked out in a No. 7 jersey Wednesday and went through drills at LSU's indoor practice facility next to Eric Reid and Tharold Simon.

The good old days, at least for one day, were back.

More From ESPN.com

Tyrann Mathieu made the headlines, but other Tigers impressed at LSU's pro day, including Russell Shepard, writes Gary Laney. Blog

Mathieu, the cornerback who teamed with Reid and Simon to give LSU perhaps college football's best secondary in 2011, went through position-specific drills at LSU's pro day, skipping physical testing and only taking part in drills that grouped him with Reid, Simon and, in a surprise request from scouts, Russell Shepard."You just want to get back with your old teammates," Mathieu said. "I wasn't able to play with those guys this year, so to just get back with those guys one last time, that was probably the biggest thing."

It's also the biggest reason Mathieu is such an intriguing prospect. Booted off LSU's team in August and out of college football for the 2012 season, Mathieu presents NFL teams with what one scout in attendance called a "balancing act."

On one hand, there are the physical skills, evident during drills Wednesday. On the other hand, there are the off-the-field issues that make him a risk for any team willing to take him. While former teammates boosted their stock with great test results -- Simon's 4.50-second 40-yard dash and Michael Ford's 4.4 40 and 39.5-inch vertical leap stand out -- physical ability isn't Mathieu's big test.

Mathieu didn't even feel the need to go through physical testing after a strong performance at the NFL scouting combine.

The bigger goal for him is convincing teams that he won't be a locker room detriment.

"I think I'm doing a pretty good job," Mathieu said at the end of his workout. "The way I'm carrying myself, with the combine and with the way pro day just went, we're looking forward to the future, looking forward to being part of somebody's team."

[+] EnlargeTyrann Mathieu
AP Photo/Sean GardnerFormer LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011, returned to the school Wednesday to take part in pro day.

Mathieu was put through a series of drills involving quick change of directions to full sprints, then turning to catch the football. He looked every bit as smooth going through those drills as he did in 2011, when his penchant for creating turnovers and making big plays on special teams turned him into a Heisman Trophy finalist as a sophomore. "I thought I was more smooth today (than at the combine)," he said. "I've worked on a lot of position-specific drills since then."

More importantly, he carried himself in a professional manner, mindful that NFL scouts, coaches and front-office personnel in attendance are all well-versed in his history and are particularly mindful of how he presents himself.

"I think they know everything already (about my background)," Mathieu said. "I think they just want you to be honest with them. That was my best friend coming into this offseason and going into this draft was, just be honest, and open."

Mathieu said he knows he let his team down. But he also said he wants to impress on teams that he brings positive attributes to a locker room as well.

"I think back at LSU, and I was a true leader," Mathieu said. "I know I made some mistakes, but I think was a leader for my teammates and I was always helping those guys."

Reid affirmed Mathieu's locker room role, noting the Tigers missed him in 2012.

"I missed being on the field with him," Reid said. "He did good. He can fly. He did everything I expected him to do and better.

"Somebody's going to take a chance on him, and they are going to get a great player."

Jeremy Hill could be LSU's X factor in 2013

March, 26, 2013

By Edward Aschoff | ESPN.co
With spring practice in full swing, all eyes are on Zach Mettenberger and LSU's passing offense. And that trend should continue through fall practice and once the season finally gets here.

[+] Enlarge
Jeremy Hill
AP Photo/Gerald HerbertFollowing a 12-touchdown season in 2012, Jeremy Hill aims to keep the Tigers running next season.

But while many want to see what Mettenberger can do in his second year as a starter, especially with Cam Cameron taking over the offense, LSU's running game will still have to be very strong. With Michael Ford and Spencer Ware surprisingly taking their games to the NFL, the Tigers will be down some backs in 2013, meaning rising sophomore Jeremy Hill will become that much more important this fall.

In fact, he could be the X factor in LSU's offense.

The Tigers want to throw the ball more, and probably will with Cameron's philosophy and all of Mettenberger's receiving targets returning, but a powerful running game has always been in Les Miles' arsenal. Having a bullish back like Hill, who resumes his role as LSU's No. 1 running back, will help continue that trend.

But like Mettenberger a year ago, there will be a lot of pressure on Hill to perform. He arrived with a load of hype last year, and once he took over as the starter midway through the season, he was one of the most exciting running backs to watch in the SEC. He finished the year with 755 yards and 12 touchdowns. He started five of the 11 games he played in.

Starting with the South Carolina game in early October, Hill carried the ball at least 12 times each game during the last two months of the season. During that span, he gained 124 yards in a win over the Gamecocks and 127 yards in a win over Texas A&M a week later. He rushed for three touchdowns in those games and averaged more than 7 yards a carry in both outings. A week later, he carried the ball 29 times for 107 yards and a touchdown in the loss to Alabama.

His numbers dipped in the final three games of the season, but he came roaring back for three quarters against Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. After rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns (averaging 10.3 yards per carry along the way), he didn't touch the ball at all in the fourth quarter, and the Tigers let a 24-13 lead slip away inside the Georgia Dome.

On the season, Hill averaged a rugged 5.3 yards per carry. He also gained 490 of his yards on first down, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. Eleven of his touchdowns also came on first down, and he rushed for 291 of his yards (5.6 yards per carry) and six touchdowns in the fourth quarter, making the Chick-fil-A Bowl game plan in the fourth quarter that much more perplexing.

Mettenberger should be better this fall, but Hill will have to pick up where he left off and be able to carry even more of the load. He'll be able to get breathers from Alfred Blue and Kenny Hilliard, but Hill will be the focal point of the running game. He has a great combination of size and speed and packs quite the punch, making it hard to prevent him from toughing out a couple extra hards on every run.

People continue to pump up guys like Todd Gurley and T.J. Yeldon -- and for good reason -- but keep two eyes on Hill this fall. He has all the talent to be a special player in this league, and if the passing game gets going, Hill will be freed up to do even more in 2013 ... and that's not a good thing for opposing defenses.

Wednesday was the deadline to submit bids to host the championship on Jan. 12, 2015, and only the North Texas and Tampa Bay, Fla., communities submitted bids, sources said.

The BCS commissioners will meet April 23-25 in Pasadena, Calif., to officially announce the first championship site and other details about the upcoming playoff.

In January, sources told ESPN that Cowboys Stadium was the "prohibitive favorite" to host the game. Because Cowboys Stadium, which hosts the AT&T Cotton Bowl, is such an overwhelming favorite for the inaugural championship, several communities opted not to bid, sources said.

"It's pretty clear to everyone that it's headed to Cowboys Stadium," an industry source said.

Still, Tampa Bay, which has hosted four Super Bowls and the men's and women's Final Four, bid for the game. This could make a favorable impression and help its chances in landing a future championship game, sources said.

The upcoming 2013 season is the final year of the BCS before college football adopts a new four-team playoff after the 2014 regular season. The Jan. 1, 2015, semifinals will be held at the Rose Bowl presented by Vizio in Pasadena, Calif., and the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

To bid for the inaugural championship game, stadiums had to meet a minimum 65,000-seat requirement. Also cities could not host a semifinal game and the championship in the same year.

Besides expecting to land college football's new title game, Cowboys Stadium also will host the NCAA's men's Final Four nine months earlier, on April 5 and 7, 2014.

It's anticipated that this summer, the yet-to-be-named playoff is expected to start accepting bids for the Jan. 11, 2016, and Jan. 9, 2017, championship games, sources said.
