The Roman Coliseum

Tinker Town: "The Roman Coliseum is the closest image that keep coming back to me as I try and talk about the college football games played in LSU Tiger Stadium over the years. The huge crowds cheering for the players in fierce competition. The shear excitement of everyone pushing to win the football game all across the stadium. The only difference from then and now is the elimination of the out right killing, and the added technology of color HD TV, along with the stadium electric lights. Otherwise we are really not that far removed from the glory years in Rome (755 BC to 27 BC ). You can cut the tension with a knife as your teams winning streaks moves into the next week important football game. The sight and sound of LSU tiger stadium all becomes part of your heart beat feeding the soul."

With or without Tyrann Mathieu, LSU is still college football's best team

in the wake of Tyrann Mathieu's dismissal from the LSU football team. The idea being that the Tigers' title prospects might not be as sweet without the Honey Badger on the roster.

RUSTY COSTANZA / THE TIMES-PICAYUNEAll-American cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was all smiles at last Tuesday's media day. Three days later he was kicked off the team.
I don't have a vote but I do have a little unsolicited advice for the 65 voters: Put away your erasers. Even without the most dynamic playmaker in college football, the Tigers are still most talented team in the land.
They have everything in place to win it all: a user-friendly schedule; an NFL-caliber quarterback; and an experienced, talent-laden defense. Until someone proves otherwise, they're the deserving No. 1.
In another year, losing a talent like Mathieu might have been a critical blow to the Tigers' title hopes. But not this team. Not this year. Read more...http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/08/with_or_without_tyrann_mathieu.html

Tigers still reach BCS title game sans Honey Badger

By GLENN GUILBEAU

I am a voter on the Associated Press poll, which last week extended its deadline to vote on its preseason poll to Aug. 13 after LSU star defensive back/kick returner Tyrann Mathieu was kicked off LSU’s team on Aug. 10.
The original deadline was Aug. 8. I voted LSU No. 1 in the poll I filed by Aug. 8.
I did not change my vote. LSU, which is the USA Today’s preseason No. 1, is still No. 1 without the Honey Badger.
Mathieu, a Heisman finalist and winner of the Bednarik Award for the nation’s best defensive player last season, is the greatest player in history to be kicked off an LSU team and is the best returning defensive player in the nation this season - whether he ends up at McNeese State or Louisiana College. He also has one of the best nicknames in college football history. Read more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=215832
