Breaking LSU Sports News:
Cam Cameron is LSU's new OC, a source just confirmed to CBS. Cameron and Miles have been tight for years.
--------------------Tinker:
Most LSU tiger football fans are very weary of waiting for Les Miles to start playing a smart QB, who puts the football on target. Not since Matt Flynn from the National Champion 2007 LSU team has the LSU football fans seen a reliable quarterback. Les Miles offense has been a failure against the likes of Alabama, and the good college defensive teams everywhere. So it would be a great relief for the LSU football fans. To see Les Miles hire a quality offensive coach who could restore some smart efficiency to the fighting tiger offense. Is Cam Cameron coming to coach LSU?

Cam Cameron was just offered the job (Posted on 2/7/13 at 6:49 p.m.)
Just created an account yesterday. Cheers to all LSU fans!
LSU: A lot of coaches wonder if the speculation about Cam Cameron joining the LSU staff as offensive coordinator is legit. From what I here, it is. A source tells me Cameron has been offered the job, in which case Steve Kragthorpe would move to an off-the-field position on the staff. Greg Studrawa would drop the offensive coordinator title and remain the offensive line coach.
Will he take it?

Cam Cameron - Just ironing out financial details (Posted on 2/7/13 at 10:08 a.m.)
I'm told Cameron is on board and they are trying to work out the financial details as we speak. LSU would like to make an announcement as early as tomorrow if possible.

Report: Cam Cameron Offered LSU Tigers Offensive Coordinator Position
Report: Cam Cameron Offered LSU Tigers Offensive Coordinator PositionFormer Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was fired by the team late in the season, but there is a strong possibility that he could return to coaching before next season starts. This time, however, Cameron would be joining the college coaching ranks.
It is being reported that Cameron has been offered the offensive coordinator position with the LSU Tigers. Per Pete Rousse of CoachingSearch.com:
A lot of coaches wonder if the speculation about Cam Cameron joining the LSU staff as offensive coordinator is legit. From what I here, it is. A source tells me Cameron has been offered the job, in which case Steve Kragthorpe would move to an off-the-field position on the staff. Greg Studrawa would drop the offensive coordinator title and remain the offensive line coach.Cameron was the offensive coordinator in Baltimore since 2008. Prior to joining the Ravens, he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins for one season. Ironically, Cameron’s only win as Dolphins head coach came against the Ravens. He has previous college coaching experience with the Indiana Hoosiers and Michigan Wolverines.
It will be interesting to see if Cameron to LSU gains any more steam and if a move to Baton Rouge could be in the works. If the move does happen, the Tigers would be adding another bright mind to the coaching staff.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
Good morning, Tiger Fans,
First things first, a heartfelt thanks is in order. Wednesday was the last day of my annual fundraiser and I want to express my most sincere appreciation to all of you who donated. Thanks to your generosity and with your ongoing support, I look forward to publishing this web site for many years to come.
Now that Signing Day is behind us, the hot topic of discussion is possible coaching changes, and it sure does appear that the wheels are in motion at LSU. According to the website CoachingSearch.com, LSU has offered the Offensive Coordinator position to Cam Cameron. Here's what they report:
From Coaching Search.com: A lot of coaches wonder if the speculation about Cam Cameron joining the LSU staff as offensive coordinator is legit. From what I here, it is. A source tells me Cameron has been offered the job, in which case Steve Kragthorpe would move to an off-the-field position on the staff. Greg Studrawa would drop the offensive coordinator title and remain the offensive line coach.
I've also heard from a couple of my readers who tell me that Cameron was seen on LSU’s campus yesterday. Now, whether this is true or not is yet to be confirmed, but where there's this much smoke there's usually a fire. With Junior Day only a week away, and the start of spring practice less than five weeks away (3/14), I suspect that we’ll know very soon if the rumors are legit.
In football recruiting news, I want to remind you all that Priest Willis is supposedly signing with his school of choice today. I suspect that he will honor his commitment to UCLA, although there are rumors circulating that he might flip to USC.
Before leaving the topic of football, I'd like to thanks those of you who voted in our poll asking “Which incoming LSU football signee(s) will make the biggest impact in the 2012 season?” I will keep the poll open until throughout the weekend and then will report on the results Monday. If you haven't yet done so, please click here are vote in the poll. Please note that you can choose more than one player.
In men’s basketball news, LSU picked up a huge commitment this week from a 7' Australian center, Darcy Malone. According to the description on his highlights video, Malone represented Australia at the FIBA U17 World Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania, where they claimed silver medals versus the USA. It also states that Malone is “very coachable, athletic, and determined.” Check out his video and I think you'll agree that he's a great addition to LSU’s list of 2013 commitments. Malone is expected to sign in the April signing period.
In women’s basketball, the 12th-ranked Lady Vols stunned LSU’s Lady Tigers, 64-62, last night in the PMAC. LSU led 62-59 with 0:31 to play, but missed two critical free throws that kept the door open for Tennessee. The Lady Vols fouled Theresa Plaisance, the SEC’s leading scorer and one of the league’s top free throw shooters, but Plaisance missed the front end of her free throw opportunity and Tennessee tied it at 62-62 on a free throw of their own. LSU, looking for a game-winning shot, turned it over with 0:04 to play when Bianca Lutley was stolen by Bashaara Graves, who beat the buzzer with a shot off the glass to give Tennessee a 64-62 lead. The Lady Tigers got a great look at the basket in the final 0.8 seconds when Plaisance fired a baseball pass across the floor to Adrienne Webb, but Webb’s potential game-winning shot clanged off the iron as the horn sounded.
Below are some excerpts from LSU's press release about the game:
“I was very proud of our team for putting ourselves in position to win this ball game,” said LSU head coach Nikki Caldwell. “We did a lot of really good things, and I don’t want a last second shot to overshadow the fight and heart that our team had tonight.
“This team has grown in the last couple of days from Monday night’s game and from this day forward we need to continue to grow and learn how to not only put ourselves in position to win basketball games but to finish off the win. We had some tremendous play down the stretch to get us the lead. It’s real simple; you make lay-ups and free throws.”
The loss dropped LSU to 13-10 overall and eighth place in the SEC standings at 4-6 in league play. The Lady Tigers conclude a difficult week with No. 9 Georgia at 12:30 p.m. CT Sunday in what will be the third straight ranked opponent in seven days for LSU.
Plaisance led the way for LSU, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. Freshman Danielle Ballard added 10 points and four steals. Lutley notched double-figures with 13 points.
Junior guard Jeanne Kenney, who sprained her left knee on Monday against Texas A&M, displayed incredible toughness. Though she did not start, she entered the game with LSU trailing by 11 and provided a spark the remainder of the contest. She finished with four points, five rebounds and five assists. She picked up two big charges on the defensive end that brought the crowd to its feet even while playing through pain.

Recruiting notebook: Miles "hasn't given much thought" to staff changes
"I haven't given much thought to changes in this staff at this point," he said. "I thought the staff did a great job (recruiting). We did as much team recruiting as we've ever done. (Defensive coordinator) John Chavis was involved with all defensive players, (offensive coordinator) Coach (Greg) Studrawa ran to be involved with a number of offensive linemen across the country.
"(Running backs coach and recruiting coordinator) Frank Wilson is invaluable, a tremendous communicator and a guy that makes himself understood to both prospects and parents. This staff is in many ways a staff class, a staff that put it in and went after it. If there was a deficit, somebody else stepped up."
Rumors have swirled recently about Miles possibly shuffling the staff by hiring his friend, Cam Cameron, as offensive coordinator. The two served together for seven seasons (1987-93) on the Michigan coaching staff. Cameron was dismissed by the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens in mid-season.

LSU had a logjam at tailback last season but returns starter Jeremy Hill, along with Kenny Hilliard, Alfred Blue and Terrence Magee.
"I like where we are at tailback," Miles said. "We have a number that will fit our needs this fall. We'll have to recruit a great tailback as we come forward. If you look at needs, we need one of those guys that has great speed and ball skills and can run with power. I'm thinking of him right now."
EYES ON: The staff is hoping to bring in an impact receiver such as junior college transfer Quantavius Leslie, but Leslie reportedly has struggled academically at Hinds Community College.
At 6-feet-4 and 190 pounds, Leslie could give the Tigers the size and physical presence it lacked at receiver last season. Miles said he thinks Leslie has a handle on his schoolwork and will report as expected.
"We've kind of followed him since the semester started," Miles said. "It appears he's doing well and he has a nice structure to his day. We would expect him to finish."
LEAVING HOME: University High defensive end Tim Williams, rated the No. 1 player in the state by ESPN, signed with Alabama. It's the second consecutive year LSU has lost out to Alabama on a highly-rated local player. Last season, Dutchtown safety Landon Collins, the nation's No. 1 rated safety, chose Alabama.
LSU offered Williams as did several SEC schools, but backed off later in the recruiting process. He narrowed his choices to Alabama and Miami before choosing.
"We recruited him very well," said Miles, whose son, Manny was a teammate of Williams'. "We reviewed him and he knew of us. Staying home is not for everybody. We wish him well. We think he's a very talented player."

on February 07, 2013 at 12:48 PM, updated February 07, 2013A look at some of the newest LSU Tigers and their projections for this season:
1. Tre'Davious White, CB, 5-10, 170, Green Oaks High School, Shreveport
Projection: LSU has a history of outstanding defensive backs and White looks to be the next elite corner. Most of the corners on the roster are underclassmen and unproven, so White should make a push for immediate playing time in the secondary and on special teams as a returner. With his work ethic, knowledge of the game and athleticism, White is a future star.
2. Frank Herron, DE, 6-5, 245, Central High School, Memphis, Tenn.
Projection: LSU is looking for a few of these incoming defensive linemen to make an impact this season. Out of all the defensive end prospects in the class, Herron should be the first to make a push to get on the field. He is a tremendous athlete for a bigger prospect, but he has a lot to learn as he has only played a few years of football. Once he puts it all together, he could be a dominate force off the edge.
3. Greg Gilmore, DT, 6-4, 275, South View High School, Hope Mills, N.C.
Projection: One of the prized recruits in this class for the Tigers, Gilmore has all the tools to be special, now he just has to work on putting it all together. He is a good athlete that plays hard and has good natural strength. LSU is thin at defensive tackle, so he certainly will be given the opportunity to get on the field early. If he learns how to use his hands more effectively and play with a lower pad level, he could make quite an impact.
4. Ethan Pocic, OT, 6-7, 287, Lemont (Ill.) High School
Projection: Pocic is a prototypical SEC offensive lineman. He has a huge frame and is very lean at this stage of his physical development. With left tackle Chris Faulk declaring early for the NFL draft, there is a chance that Pocic could end up in the two-deep rotation as a freshman. For his size, he moves well and shows good knee bend and hip flexibility. Once he shores up his pass protection, Pocic will make a push for playing time.
5. Rashard Robinson, CB, 6-1, 163, Blanche Ely, Pompano Beach, Fla.
Projection: In an age when big defensive backs are the norm, Robinson will arrive in Baton Rouge as the tallest corner on the Tigers' roster. He has some filling out to do before he can see the field, but he has already started to add weight since the end of his season. He progressed rather quickly through the spring and summer months last year, so it looks as if he can implement new techniques to his game effectively and in short order. If he shows that same ability in Baton Rouge, he could push for immediate playing time much like White. Of all the prospects in this class for the Tigers, Robinson and Herron have the highest ceiling.
6. Kendell Beckwith, DE, 6-3, 225, East Feliciana, Jackson
Projection: Beckwith initially wanted to be a linebacker, but has since backed off of that stance. He is open to playing defensive end. His ability to get after the passer will be vital for LSU moving forward as it looks to replenish a depleted defensive line. Beckwith, who grew up nearby, uses his hands very well for a high school player, which gives him a leg up on the other incoming freshman. If he can bulk up and overcome nagging shoulder injuries, he has a chance to get on the field right away. Either way, he projects to be a fantastic player.
7. Anthony Jennings, QB, 6-2, 205, Marietta (Ga.) High School
Projection: It is unlikely that Jennings will see the field his freshman year with starter Zach Mettenberger returning. With that said, there will be a huge need moving forward once Mettenberger leaves and Stephen Rivers remains as the only experienced signal-caller. While Hayden Rettig is the higher rated of the two incoming quarterbacks, Jennings is farther ahead in his development. Jennings' accuracy, poise in the pocket and the ability to see the field are his best assets.
8. Jeryl Brazil, ATH, 5-9, 181, Loranger High School
Projection: Brazil is the fastest player to ever sign with the Tigers' football team. That speed, along with his vision, should make Brazil an instant threat in the return game. While some project Brazil as a cornerback, we think his best fit is as a change-of-pace running back or slot back. He isn't the biggest prospect, but he has a thick lower body and is strong. Regardless where he ultimately lines up, Brazil will be a dangerous return man from Day 1.
9. Josh Boutte, OG, 6-4, 324, Westgate High School, New Iberia
Projection: This mauler should fit nicely into the physical SEC. Boutte has natural strength and loves using it to toss around defenders. He also has a nasty disposition and gets after defenders. While LSU isn't in need of immediate help from its offensive line signees, Boutte has the physical makeup to step in early if needed.
10. Hayden Rettig, QB, 6-2, 201, Cathedral High School, Los Angeles
Projection: Rettig has elite arm strength and can make every throw on the chart. While it is a great asset, he has yet to learn how to take a little off of throws when needed. He is a pocket passer, but he also has the foot speed and lateral quickness to buy time. Once Mettenberger moves on after this season, Rettig could push to be the next starter in Baton Rouge.

Drew Brees talks Cameron (Posted on 2/5/13 at 11:16 a.m.)
Drew Brees on Cam Cameron: You mentioned in your book that Cam Cameron was one of the few guys in the organization that believe in you all along. What did he mean to your career? “He was huge. Cam was huge in my career. I was with him for four years. He was the offensive coordinator while I was in San Diego for those last four years. That was a time in my career where during that stretch I got benched three or four times, they ended up drafting Philip Rivers. Cam was pretty much the one who broke the news to me. My postseason exit meeting with him after the ’03 season I went in his office, shut the door and (he said) I’m just telling you they’re either going to go out and get a free agent veteran quarterback to come in here or they’re going to draft a rookie high to compete with you. Just get ready for that. I feel like he was always very honest with me. He always did things to try to get the best out of me. There was a time or two where we would butt heads, but I think that was all part of the process of him trying to mold me into the type of quarterback he knew I could be, the type of person he knew I could be, leader and I appreciate him for that. I love the man. I think he’s a great coach and obviously I had a lot of great years with him.” |
