Tinker:
Turning it over to the younger people is all the evidence that you need to see the immature confused beliefs of young people who really don't know what they believe, if they believe in anything at all. I have never seen anything a young person can do that adults can't do better. Thank god the younger crowd don't run America. The stars in their eyes shine brightly only inside their own foolish head?

Via ESPN: MLB will seek to suspend approximately 20 (!) players for their connections to the South Florida clinic Biogenesis. Among those players are Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, and Frankie Cervelli.
That part is not new; we’ve known MLB wants to hand out suspensions the whole time. The new information is that Biogenesis chief Anthony Bosch has agreed to cooperate with the investigation and will sign an affidavit saying he provided performance-enhancing drugs to various big league's. Obviously, all hell is about to break loose between MLB and the union.

11 GOP Positions Loathed by Young People -- According to College GOP Report
Young people have strong disagreements with Republican policies and are far more likely to support progressive positions.
June 3, 2013
|
But a close reading of the 90-page report finds that young people have strong disagreements with Republican policies — including large parts of former candidate’s Mitt Romney’s platform — and are far more likely to support progressive positions. Here are 11 examples:
1. GOP economic polices are to blame for the recession. “Although ‘Republican economic policies’ is the factor least likely to be viewed as playing a major role in causing the crisis, this is mostly due to young Republicans in the sample hesitating to pin blame directly on their own party, and an outright majority of young people still think those Republican policies are to blame – hardly an encouraging finding.”
2. Lower taxes will not create jobs.” In the August 2012 XG survey, there was not a strong consensus around the virtues of lowering taxes and regulations on business. Only 34% of respondents in that survey thought they’d be better off if the corporate tax rate were lowered, and only 36% thought such a move would make it easier for young people to get jobs.”
3. Increase taxes on the wealthy. “Perhaps most troubling for Republicans is the finding from the March 2013 CRNC survey that showed 54% of young voters saying ‘taxes should go up on the wealthy,’ versus 31% who say “taxes should be cut for everyone.”
4. End the attacks on women’s reproductive health. “[T]he issue of protecting life has been conflated with issues around the definition of rape, funding for Planned Parenthood, and even contraception. In the words of one female participant in our Hispanic voter focus group in Orlando, “I think Romney wanted to cut Planned Parenthood. And he supports policies where it would make it harder for a woman to get an abortion should she choose, even if it were medically necessary. That goes head in hand with redefining rape.”
5. Expand universal health care coverage. “Many of the young people in our focus groups noted that they thought everyone in America should have access to health coverage. In the Spring 2012 Harvard Institute of Politics survey of young voters, 44% said that “basic health insurance is a right for all people, and if someone has no means of paying for it, the government should provide it.” … As one participant in our focus group of young men in Columbus put it, “at least Obama was making strides to start the process of reforming health care.”
6. Provide comprehensive immigration reform. “The position taken most frequently by young voters was that “illegal immigrants should have a path to earn citizenship,” chosen by 35% of respondents… Some 19% chose “illegal immigrants should be deported or put in jail for breaking the law,” while another 17% took the position that “illegal immigrants should have a path to legal status but not citizenship.”
7. Cut the defense budget first. “Indeed, a large number of respondents pointed to the defense budget as the place where cuts should start. In the survey, 35% of respondents thought that “we should have a smaller defense budget and leaner military,” including 49% of young independents.”
8. Democrats are more responsive on student loans. “Many focus group members did think that Democrats were responding to the student loan crisis. “I think they’re more in tune to what we need right now with student loans, getting a job, fixing the housing market and the environment,” observed one participant from Orlando, with another adding that he had “heard Obama once say, oh, he has student loans, he went to school, he knows what we’re going through.”

JUST IN: NSA Collecting Phone Records of Millions of Americans Daily
Heather Ginsberg | Jun 05, 2013The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries. Here is just another example of the government overreaching into the lives of millions of Americans without our permission. The Guardian reports:
The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.
The secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (Fisa) granted the order to the FBI on April 25, giving the government unlimited authority to obtain the data for a specified three-month period ending on July 19.
Under the terms of the blanket order, the numbers of both parties on a call are handed over, as is location data, call duration, unique identifiers, and the time and duration of all calls. The contents of the conversation itself are not covered.
The unlimited nature of the records being handed over to the NSA is extremely unusual. Fisa court orders typically direct the production of records pertaining to a specific named target who is suspected of being an agent of a terrorist group or foreign state, or a finite set of individually named targets.------------------
The Guardian approached the National Security Agency, the White House and the Department of Justice for comment in advance of publication on Wednesday. All declined. The agencies were also offered the opportunity to raise specific security concerns regarding the publication of the court order.
The court order expressly bars Verizon from disclosing to the public either the existence of the FBI's request for its customers' records, or the court order itself.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
n baseball news, LSU came in at No. 1 in this week’s NCBWA (Baseball Writers’) poll while their Super Regional opponent, Oklahoma, came in at No. 16. Of course, at this point the polls and ranking mean nothing as the Tigers’ path to the College World Series has been laid out clearly in front of them, and as long as they take care of business this weekend at the Box they will be on their way to Omaha. But getting past Oklahoma will be no small feat. The Sooners are a team with great potential, although they’ve been somewhat sporadic throughout the season. After losing 9 of their last 12 regular season games and finishing fourth in their conference, Oklahoma went on a tear and swept through the Big 12 Tournament and the Blacksburg Regional with relative ease.
Last night I did a little research on the Sooners and created this chart to give you a quick comparison of the two team's stats. Oklahoma's strength is their pitching staff which features two very dependable starters including Jonathon Grey whom I mentioned yesterday tested positive for Adderall in a MLB predraft drug-test. According to the latest news I've heard, the strongarmed right-hander whose fastball reaches speeds of over 100 MPH is still expected to start Friday's game. LSU is expected to counter with Aaron Nola, although beyond that it's less clear on how LSU's weekend pitching rotation will shake out now that Cody Glenn has been accepted back onto the team after committing a still-undisclosed violation of team rules.
As the chart indicates, LSU is a more balanced team and holds a statistical advantage in all three major aspects of the game - hitting, fielding and pitching. Where OU has the statistical advantage is in sacrifice bunts and stolen bases. It ought to be a great best-of-three Super Regional series, and the nation will be watching as all three games are slotted for prime time. Friday's game will be on ESPN, while Saturday and Sunday's (if necessary) will be on ESPN2. All three games start at 6 p.m.
In football recruiting news, LSU extended an offer to 2015 defensive tackle T.D. Moton yesterday, according to a tweet by Assistant Athletic Director Clint Hortman of Calvary Baptist Academy. At 6'4", 310, Moten has great size, strength and speed and is quickly making a name for himself as one of the top defensive linemen for the Class of 2015. Moten’s growing list of offers includes LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Florida State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and others. I've added Moten’s highlight video to our Media Gallery.
Also, quarterback Mason Rudolph is reportedly announcing his school of choice today at around noon. The 6-4, 210 pro style quarterback from Rock Hill, South Carolina is one of three or four quarterbacks LSU is recruiting and he’s expected to choose between Virginia Tech and LSU. Stay tuned, Tiger Fans. As soon as I hear the news I'll tweet it to those of you who follow @DandyDonLSU on Twitter. If you don’t use Twitter, you can refer to the left side of this page to follow my most recent tweets.
In other news related to LSU football, Phil Steel released his All-SEC teams and LSU's Craig Loston and Anthony Johnson made the first team. Odell Beckham and Lamin Barrow made his second team, Jeremy Hill, La’el Collins, and Jalen Mills made third team and Jarvis Landry made 4th team. Beckham also made second team on special teams. The two things I take biggest exception to are the absence of Alfred Blue and the listing of Jeremy Hill at third team. If Hill does in fact play this season, I look for him to be a serious contender for first team honors.
Now let's continue our jersey countdown to the start of the LSU football season by looking at a special Tiger who wore No. 87 for LSU, Brett Bech. Bech walked-on to the LSU football team in 1991 as a 5-foot-10, 160-pound freshman, but by the time he graduated in 1994 he had grown into a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, two year starting wide receiver with a pro football career in front of him. Bech finished his playing days at LSU with 89 receptions for 1,438 yards and nine touchdowns, including an 81-yard score against Ole Miss in 1994. As a senior in 1994, Bech was named a team captain and led the Tigers in receiving with 45 catches for 772 yards and five touchdowns. After graduating, Bech went on to play for the New Orleans Saints from 1996-99 after entering the league as an un-drafted free agent in 1996 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Following the 1999 season, Bech injured his ankle and had a hernia operation, and when a new coaching staff came to New Orleans Bech found himself out of a job. After tryouts with the Eagles and Patriots, Bech’s path led him to the XFL franchise in Las Vegas in 2001. A year later, Bech joined the Arena Football League’s Indiana Firebirds where he played receiver and linebacker and made the All-Rookie squad in 2002 before tearing his rotator cuff in 2003. In 2004, Bech went out on a bang by leading the AFL in forced fumbles and catching 17 touchdown passes for over 900 yards. Many of you may recall that in 2004 Bech was cast for the movie, “The Longest Yard,” where he played the part of a wideout alongside stars Adam Sandler, Burt Reynolds and Chris Rock. Last I heard, Bech was working as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaking of former Tigers, another video that I’ve recently added to our Media Gallery is a new one by LesMiles.net that highlights Tyrann Mathieu's career at LSU. Watching the video really reminded me of what a special playmaker Mathieu was, and makes me wonder what could have been for LSU last year had Mathieu used better judgment and stayed out of trouble. You can check out the video here.
I'll leave you with a bit of basketball news: Angel Elderkin, who served as LSU’s director of video operations during the 2011-12 season and was recently an assistant coach at St. John’s University, has been named an assistant coach for the Lady Tiger basketball team. Elderkin, 35, replaces Stacie Terry, who was named head coach at San Diego State last month. Here's more on the story from LSUSports.net.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- They all sat at the
news conference interview table after LSU won the Baton Rouge regional,
evidence of a stretch of games that Tigers coach Paul Mainieri took to
calling "zany."
There was shortstop Alex Bregman, with bruises on his face, and
outfielder Raph Rhymes, with stitches in his lip, the hitting heroes of
LSU's clinching 5-1 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday. The injuries
were the result of their nasty collision while chasing a pop fly during
Friday's opening regional win over Jackson State.
To their left at the table was pitcher Brent Bonvillain, Sunday's starting, and winning, pitcher against the Cajuns. He likely would not have been given the ball during the weekend at all if not for the suspension of pitcher Cody Glenn for the regional for violating team rules.
It was that kind of weekend for LSU. Every little thing that might go wrong did go wrong.
Yet, at the end of the weekend, the No. 1 seed Tigers (55-9), the No. 4 national seed in the NCAA tournament, had somehow swept through the regional they hosted, running Mainieri's home regional record to 12-0 at LSU.
In the process, LSU set up a showdown with Oklahoma for one of this weekend's most attractive super regionals. The Tigers will be seeking their first trip to Omaha for the College World Series since winning their sixth national title in 2009.
LSU reinstated Glenn Monday following a team meeting. The Tigers hope that things return to a more normal, predictable script.

The disjointed, yet successful, regional weekend -- consecutive, but
sometimes troublesome, wins over Jackson State, Sam Houston State and
Louisiana-Lafayette -- left Mainieri at a loss for words, until a
reporter at the news conference offered the word "zany."
"That's a good word, 'zany,' " Mainieri said. "I wasn't counting on using that, but that's a good description of it."
Count the ways LSU's weekend went off the rails
.
• Outfielder Mark Laird sprained an ankle at the SEC tournament, leaving his status for the weekend in question.
• Outfielder Sean McMullen pulled a hamstring in Saturday's win over Sam Houston State, forcing Mainieri to go back to Laird for Sunday's game. Another Tiger, Chris Sciambra, missed the game because he was sick.
• Usually steady starting pitcher Ryan Eades struggled with his control Friday against Jackson State and didn't make it out of the third inning.
• LSU's usually reliable defense, often singled out by Mainieri as perhaps the best he's had, had three costly first-inning errors behind ace Austin Nola against Sam Houston, allowing the Bearkats to score five first-inning runs and forcing LSU to have to rally from behind for the 8-5 win.
Despite all that, "We just kept finding ways to win," Mainieri said.
In the process, LSU showed why it has a chance to complete one of the
storied seasons in what's already a storied program history.
En route to winning 48 regular season games and getting to 52 wins by the end of the SEC tournament (which the Tigers win), LSU didn't always simply smash teams into submission.
That was the case Sunday. Bonvillain tied up the Cajuns hitters for five shutout innings, and LSU broke open 1-0 with a three-run sixth inning highlighted not by a couple of big swings, but a series of hard-fought singles that upped the Tigers' lead to 4-0.
The left-handed hitting Laird started the rally by lining a one-out, opposite-way single off reliever Cord Cockrell. Jacoby Jones followed by grounding a single between third and short, then Bregman followed by grounding one up the middle for a single to score Laird.
With two outs, Rhymes delivered the inning's big hit, a line drive that barely cleared the glove of leaping second baseman Jace Conrad for a two-run single.
"I got a curveball and I went the other way with it," Rhymes said.
It was the story of the inning. LSU's talented lineup did not simply overmatch ULL's bullpen. It competed and sprayed singles.
"We used the whole field," Bregman said. "That was the key to the inning. We used the whole field to hit with."
With that, plus the bonus of a combined three-hitter from Bonvillain, reliever Nick Rumbelow (in perhaps his best outing of the season) and closer Chris Cotton, LSU was also to persevere not only the Cajuns, but the Tigers' own issues.
"I think the whole thing is a testament to these kids," Mainieri said. "No matter what breaks go against us, we find a way."
