I keep forgetting;

Tinker:

I keep forgetting every time that I notice you walking around congress and in the White House, that we are not in love anymore. Because you were so much apart of my life. Everywhere I turned you were right there, In school, on the play grown, hospital, church. My heart feels so broken now, all I see anymore is how you were secretly looking at what I was doing in privet with my family and friends. I will never forgive you for breaking our trust that I so freely gave to you. Never again will I sing the star spangled banner with the same deep affection that I once felt so proudly over. You uncivilized savage you have no honor so you never really cared about me at all, did you?

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
Good morning, Tiger Fans.
Coach Miles put his football team through their final scrimmage of the preseason yesterday, but before I get to that I want to call your attention to this DandyDon.com interview with Mac Engel, a long-time sports writer and columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, on the subject of the upcoming TCU game. With Mac being right there in TCU’s backyard, we thought it would be interesting to get his perspective, and it was. My favorite line from the interview is when Mac is asked about Coach Patterson’s comments regarding the Jeremy Hill suspension and he concludes his answer by saying, “Do not be surprised if TCU loses that someone will write how Les Miles taught TCU and Patterson a ‘life lesson.’” Click here to read the brief interview, which was conducted by my brother, Dan, who also works at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. And in case you missed it, Dan also helped by contributing this page which I posted yesterday about what to do and see in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Now back to yesterday’s scrimmage... Coach Miles seemed a bit more encouraged by this 150-play scrimmage (130 offense/defense and 20 special teams) than the previous two and said he likes the position the team is in. I followed the post-scrimmage presser via Twitter and below are some of the tid-bits I picked up, followed by the official release sent out by LSU’s Sports Information Department.

• DE Jermauria Rasco did participate (remember he was withheld from the last one because of his shoulder) and Coach Miles said he expects him to start against TCU.

• WR Travin Dural also participated after being withheld last scrimmage, and Miles said he made a nice downfield catch in the endzone.

• Alfred Blue was the leading rusher and had a pair of TDs.

• Wide receivers Dural, Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, as well as tight end Dillion Gordon, all scored.

• Zach Mettenberger threw three TDs and Anthony Jennings threw one.

• Again, Miles heaped a lot of praise on OT Jerald Hawkins.

• Miles praised both DEs that are vying for the starting role opposite of Rasco - Danielle Hunter and Jordan Allen.

• Miles also praised freshman LBs Kendell Beckwith and Duke Riley.

• The kickers were 8-for-10, and Miles said it looks like Colby Delahoussaye will be the FG and PAT kicker while James Hairston could come in for long FGs.

• As for the Rickey Jefferson situation, Miles said, “We anticipated this thing would resolve itself. We gave him small, inconsequential discipline. It seems that it has.”

Below is a press release on the scrimmage, as sent out by LSU’s Sports Information Department:

LSU SCRIMMAGES FOR FINAL TIME; ATTENTION TURNS TO TCU

BATON ROUGE – LSU had its final scrimmage of the preseason on Tuesday as the Tigers went through a 150-play workout indoors at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.

LSU now turns its attention to next week’s season-opener against TCU in Arlington, Texas.

The Tigers and Horned Frogs kickoff at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 in the Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN.

“We had a good go at it,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “We were able to get a lot accomplished as we closed in on about 120 plays on offense and defense with another 30 plays on special teams.

“This film will be the style that an assistant coach will be able to correct from and improve our football team. I like the position that we are in. The scrimmage itself made it obvious that we are a talented team but there are some things we need to correct.”

Miles said that while he is not ready to name a starting lineup for the season-opener, the scrimmages have given the staff a pretty good feel for which players are in position to see action for the Tigers against TCU.

“I think we will take it all the way till game week before we decide our two-deep,” Miles said. “I’m more set on who is going to play than who will start.”

Tuesday’s scrimmage was scripted and featured redzone, tight zone, four-minute and two-minute offense. LSU also worked on all phases of special teams.

Miles said the Tiger offense managed to throw the ball for 250 yards along with 200 rushing yards. However, some pre-snap penalties dampened what would have been a very productive outing for the offense.

Miles said running back Alfred Blue scored a pair of touchdowns and led the team in rushing. Other offensive leaders included Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr., and Dillon Gordon with touchdowns. Miles said both Zach Mettenberger and Anthony Jennings threw TD passes.

“We were sloppy and need to get things right,” Miles said of the mistakes. “If we do that than we will have the opportunity to beat a lot of teams. There are some things we have to eliminate like pre-snap penalties and holding calls. It’s the pre-snap penalties and those things that frustrate you as a coach. They need to be corrected.”

Defensively, Miles continued to praise the play of the defensive line, in particular sophomore Danielle Hunter and junior Jordan Allen.

“The defensive front continues to improve,” Miles said. “Danielle Hunter made some plays today that I really liked. Jordan (Allen) is big, strong and athletic. He didn’t really have the opportunities last year because of the guys in front of him but now with another year in the program he is a guy who will play really well. Our ends are going to be really dominant.”

Miles also said that the Tiger linebackers are “fast, hard-hitting and might be the most athletic group that we’ve had that position since we’ve been here.”

Junior linebacker D.J. Welter had four tackles and a sack, while Allen had five tackles and sack to pace the defensive effort for the Tigers.

LSU will take a day off from contact tomorrow as the Tigers will have a walk-thru followed by a practice on Thursday afternoon in what will be the start of game week preparations.

One sure sign that LSU’s football season is right around the corner is that Coach Les Miles’ weekly radio show will begin tonight at 7 p.m. The program will take place at TJ Ribs in Baton Rouge and can be heard in the Baton Rouge area on Eagle 98.1 FM as well as on the Internet in the Geaux Zone on www.LSUsports.net/live. I look forward to listening to the show tonight, but I'll have to record it and listen to it a couple of hours after it’s broadcast because of family obligations. I’ll do my best to take a few notes so that I can fill you in on what's said.

With 10 days remaining until Game Day, today we'll continue our Jersey Countdown by looking at a hard-running, versatile running back who wore No. 10 in his final years at LSU - Joseph Addai. Addai played his high school ball in Houston for the Sharpstown Apollos where he was an All-American left-handed option-style quarterback. During his senior year in high school, he rushed for 1,429 yards on 159 carries and completed 37 passes for 425 yards. Addai was recruited by then LSU coach Nick Saban as a running back and came to LSU in 2001, but an early season injury (torn ACL) sidelined him after only two games and resulted in a medical redshirt. As a redshirt freshman in 2002, Addai carried the ball 80 times for 438 yards and four touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2003, he gained 520 yards on 114 carries for the National Champion Tigers and was the team’s second leading rusher behind freshman Justin Vincent. As a junior in 2004, Addai rushed for 680 yards on 101 carries and caught 24 passes for 294 yards, scoring seven touchdowns in all. His best performance of the season came when LSU beat Alabama 26-10 and he scored three touchdowns. In that game, Addai led the team in rushing with 99 yards and added another 46 yards receiving. During his senior season, Addai led the team with 911 rushing yards on 187 carries and scored nine touchdowns. He capped off his career at LSU with an impressive performance in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Miami, which the Tigers won 40-3. In that contest Addai gained a total of 135 yards and scored twice. After graduating from LSU, Addai was selected in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Colts where he played for six years. In May of last year, Addai agreed to a one-year contract with New England, but a few months later he was cut from the team. I've added a video of Addai's LSU highlights to our Media Gallery.

In other news, LSU’s 2013-2014 men’s basketball schedule was released yesterday and it looks pretty good for Tiger Fans looking to take in a few games, either in-person or on TV. The Tigers will host several great SEC games at the PMAC, including Kentucky on January 28. Other home conference games include Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Georgia. As for TV coverage, 15 games will be carried on the ESPN family of networks, four on the SEC Network, two on CSS/CST, one on CBS and one on FSN with more CST or CST-CSS/FSN non-conference games to be selected. For the first time ever, every game away from the PMAC will be televised.

Reader Comments: Dear Scott, Please inform your readers about 2 new books on the market: LSU Alphabet Book and New Orleans Saints Alphabet Book. The LSU book takes the reader on a tour of the campus identifying the famous landmarks, history and events of the university using the letters of the alphabet. The Saints book does the same but is all about the game! Kindergarten and lower elementary teachers have bought several for their reading groups and adults buy them for keepsakes.
