What going on over there?

By Mitchell Prothero | McClatchy Foreign Staff

BEIRUT — Syrian rebels spearheaded by al Qaida in Iraq and its local allies took control Tuesday of a crucial military airport in northern Syria, opening a vital supply line between the rebel-held north and Turkey.

After reading that paragraph about the Syrian rebels I began to wonder if the American people was more empathetic and sympathetic to al Qaida. Then the other leaders in the middle east that the US government has been supporting all these past years. What going on around the middle east. No one seem to be telling the American people the simply truth about the reality in that part of our world.

Is the American government on the right side of justice in that part of the world or is the men and women running the Americas government living in chaotic stupidity unable to read what going on like kids?

No I'm afraid that the political leaders who are running the American people current affairs are only lying to us and themselves about what is really going on in and around our world today.

Do you know the truth about what went on in Benghazi Libya, or in the IRS.

No we don't really know what happen in Benghazi, or in the IRS, do we. Because the people moving the leavers of power in American don't want you to know the truth. They live in a society of chaotic bliss, where one group of people are auguring with another group of people. That keep them the deceiving devils safely in charge as glorified celebrity living the good life.

They the people working in Washington DC really don't want you to learn about the real truth of what is really going on in Americas government, because if you ever do learn the real truth you would fire them.

Why has American become this way?

Because the American people let it get that way. President Obama is the zenith of the news media kind of guy. Do you think that the America news media really care about you or me then, much less telling us the American people the truth. The hole truth, and nothing but the truth?

Origin of Gold Found in the Stars?!

by Fox News Insider // Aug 06 2013 // 12:12pm

Experts say they may now know the origin of gold and platinum ... and it all began with a bang. New information suggests that when rare neutron-star collisions occur, the product? Gold.

Is the Gold Rush Moving Into Outer Space!?

Corey Powell, the editor of Discover Magazine, told Bill Hemmer that for years, scientists have not been able to fully explain the process that made the sought-after item, but now answers may be emerging.

"[The neutron-star collision] is the weirdest, most extreme kind of stellar collision you can have in the universe," Powell said, adding that after they smack into each other, radioactive material flies out ... along with millions and millions of tons of gold.

Powell cautions that it's vital to understand that the gold we find on Earth was created billions of years ago, "before there was an earth or a sun."

"We're the legacy of these explosions," he said.

Get more fascinating info in the segment above ... and try to wrap your head around it. We still haven't quite been able to!

Rush Limbaugh’s Fascinating Theory on the Media and Apple

Aug. 6, 2013 9:05am

Rush Limbaugh says tech media treats Apple like mainstream media treats Republicans Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh poses with a bust in his likeness during a secretive ceremony inducting him into the Hall of Famous Missourians on Monday, May 14, 2012, in the state Capitol in Jefferson City, Mo. Credit: AP

While you may be used to Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh offering thoughts on current political issues, last week he waded into the tech waters with a new comparison involving Apple, journalists, and the GOP.

Last Thursday, the talk radio personality said tech bloggers are biased against Apple the same way that the mainstream media is biased against Republicans.

“I would venture to say that nine out of 10 bloggers writing high-tech hate Apple,” Limbaugh said on his radio show. “Apple is the equivalent of the Republicans on these blogs, and Google, Android, and Samsung are the equivalent of the Democrats. They’re perfect, they can’t do anything wrong, they’re ideal, and everybody hates Apple.”

Limbaugh, who recently celebrated 25 years in national syndication, is best known for edgy political commentary. But he is also a fan of tech blogs, and occasionally speaks well of Apple products on the program.

Limbaugh said he didn’t think even the minority of pro-Apple tech bloggers were Republicans.

“This entire universe of tech bloggers is probably liberal Democrat, in their politics,” Limbaugh said.

He added, “most of them think they’re young and hip, pop culture hip, that’s high-tech, of course it would be.”

But he spoke well of the tech bloggers professionalism, saying they were journalists. Still, he had had a question for other tech reporters, “would you try to open your eyes and see that in the mainstream media, the Republican Party is Apple, and the Democrat Party is Samsung, Google, and Android?”

Wednesday Morning Practice Report, 8/7

Dural’s ‘wow’ moment highlights Wednesday’s a.m. session

OFFENSE, by Hunt Palmer

The guys put on the shoulder pads today for the morning workout. There wasn’t much contact to speak of, but that’s getting closer.

I’ll start with the first “wow moment” of camp, and it came from Travin Dural. The wide receivers were working with Stephen Rivers and Rob Bolden on some red zone passing. With the line of scrimmage at the 10 yard line, Dural ran a route that called for a stutter at the linebacker and a release to the back of the end zone. Rivers floated the ball, and Dural climbed WAY up the ladder to snare it before crashing to the ground. He was up there high enough that everyone reacted to the fall. Dural wasn’t hurt. He’s just a freak of an athlete. I think he’s having a great camp.

Again Dural was joined by Landry, Beckham, Boone and Wright. You know what you’re going to get from the vets, and Dural is having a good camp. That group looks pretty good.

I thought Rivers had about as good a day throwing the ball as I’ve seen in three years. He doesn’t ever just let it fly, but his throws are very catchable and today were all on the money. It’s clear that he’s put in a ton of work since getting to LSU. Will it be enough to hold off Jennings this or next year? I don’t know, but he’s getting better. Bolden on the other hand really angered Cam Cameron when he couldn’t call a play. Cameron blasted him and then called the drill off because Bolden didn’t know what to say.

Travis Dickson, Logan Stokes and Dillon Gordon were the scholarship TEs out there. Not a ton to report there, but those guys get a ton of individual attention from Steve Ensminger. They spend time with the running backs and offensive linemen.

Speaking of the offensive line, no Vadal Alexander again this morning. The first group was again Collins, Williford, Porter, Turner and Hawkins. The reserves that were there today were Evan Washington, Andy Dodd and Jonah Austin. Washington took reps at left tackle. Austin took reps at left guard, and Dodd took reps at right tackle. All of that “we’re going to put guys everywhere” applies even to the offensive linemen. I thought Dodd was a sure-fire inside player, but they’re giving him a look inside and out. It’s all part of the evaluation phase.

The running backs spent a ton of time with Mettenberger working on handoffs. This is a veteran group that is just easing into camp. Not a bunch to report on there. Hill, Hilliard, Blue and Copeland were out there.

We’ll be back out to see the younger guys this afternoon.

DEFENSE, by Cody Worsham

The most noticeable aspect of our brief look at the defense was how much calmer the coaches were.

Yesterday, John Chavis and Brick Haley’s voices could be heard in Port Allen. Today, however, the coaches took a lower key approach.

I spoke with my brother yesterday, who is the defensive coordinator at a 5A high school in Louisiana, and he talked to me about the challenges of coaching high schoolers in the heat. He said he’s had to dial it back at times, because he knows there’s a line between pushing his kids to their limits and pushing his kids past their limits. That’s a dangerous line to toe.

With the defense in pads for the first time, it looked as if that’s the approach the coaches were taking.

The good news is that even without the coaches breathing down their necks, the players responded. I saw a lot of focus and effort at every position group, and even more self-coaching.

Defensive Line

Danielle Hunter joined the veterans today, marking the first time he’s been with the morning group. He’s clearly a gifted athlete, but Brick Haley is emphasizing technique with him. They really want him to get his 6-foot-4 frame lower at the point of engagement, a point the staff emphasized more than once.

The only freshman to stay with the group was Tashawn Bower, who continued to work at end. He and Hunter worked behind Jordan Allen and Jermauria Rasco at end. I think that’s your first four at that position right now, with Lewis Neal making a run at Bower.

What a steal Bower could turn out to be. The signing day flip to LSU looks every bit the 6-foot-5 he’s listed at, and if he really is 253 pounds, it’s a lean 253. I want to compare him to Barkevious Mingo because of his length, but in reality, he’s about 50 pounds heavier than Mingo was when he arrived on campus. I don’t think he has Mingo’s speed, either, but he’ll be better against the run.

The two-deep based on today’s participants looks like this:

First team: Allen, Johnson, Ferguson, Rasco
Second team: Hunter, M. Johnson, Q. Thomas, Bower

Nice to see Mickey Johnson and Quentin Thomas back with the veterans. Johnson is a stout hole-plugger who could be a factor against the run. Thomas is a more traditional LSU tackle - longer with a quicker first step. LSU has a nice, diverse set of tackle they can use in a variety of situations, not even counting the freshmen who will contribute.

Linebackers

Kendell Beckwith, Melvin Jones and Duke Riley made their third straight a.m. appearances with the veteran core of D.J. Welter, Lamin Barrow, and Tahj Jones.

Beckwith, who has worked in the middle, moved to the outside today, with Melvin Jones working at Mike. Both are interesting prospects there. Not much separated them in the brief time we saw them. Both are 6′3, and Beckwith is listed as a pound heavier, 246 to Jones’ 245. I think Beckwith is a little lighter on his feet, but if he is, it’s marginal. We won’t see a distinction there until the lights are on and play is live.

D.J. Welter continues to show leadership. He’s very vocal, even moreso than Lamin Barrow, and seems to be in the good graces of John Chavis. Welter is underrated by most of the Tiger fanbase. His spring game wasn’t memorable, but he wasn’t awful, either. He won’t be a tackle machine like Kevin Minter, but he’s quicker than Minter and can do some things better.

I think you’ll see a different tactical approach by Chavis, with Welter trying to get to the ball quickly and engage blocker to free up tackling lanes for Barrow and Jones. Those guys are going to be your top tacklers statistically, I believe, and one of Welter’s jobs will be to free up some space for them by using his quickness to leverage blockers away from their desired lanes and be disruptive. He’ll have to be smarter and quicker than his blockers and be an exceptional reader of plays. Chavis was working strictly with Welter and the rest on those quick reads, and he seemed to pick up on it well.

Secondary

Business as usual in the back of the defense. Craig Loston and Ronald Martin worked with Rickey Jefferson and Austin Suits at safety, while Jalen Mills and Jalen Collins worked with Jeryl Brazil and Derrick Raymond at corner.

I think those pairings are very deliberate. Suits isn’t going to play, obviously, so the coaches, I think, are keeping Corey Thompson and Micah Eugene together in the second group, because they’re in direct competition for some playing time. Meanwhile, Mills is getting a lot of work with Brazil, and Collins with Raymond, because those are comparable players. Raymond is probably next behind Collins as LSU’s “big” corner, and if Collins goes down, Raymond could be the guy who you see covering the league’s bigger receivers.

Craig Loston is head and shoulders above the rest as this unit’s leader. They call him “Poppa” and “Grandaddy” - he’s the only senior of the bunch - but they’re all watching his every move.

And they’re seeing the same thing I am - a guy poised for an All-SEC campaign.

I’m still not sold on Ronald Martin. I think he’s serviceable but not exceptional, and I don’t know that he offers much protection over the top. This isn’t based on practice, but multiple observations over the last year and a half.

One last note: I check the rosters almost every day, and I noticed that in the time I was on the radio last night to 10:45 a.m. today, Rickey Jefferson’s weight has been increased from 187 to 199. That looks about right. The kid has added quite a bit of muscle, and if he’s not starting at safety beside Loston by seaosn’s end - or at least rotating in frequently - I’d be shocked.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

8/7/13 5:55 am CT

First of all, it was great to hear from many of you yesterday about the practice video I posted. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I look forward to producing another one Friday when I return to see the full team practice in full pads for the first time. I’ll also return to Baton Rouge Sunday for Media Day. In the meantime, I’ll continue to monitor public reports and tweets from a few members of the media who are covering the daily practices so that I can keep you informed on what’s going on.

Here are a few quick tid-bits I picked up on yesterday's practice sessions:

• Based on several tweets and this report, it appears that freshman receiver Avery Peterson (Patrick Peterson's younger brother) suffered a serious ankle injury in the afternoon practice. I know I speak for all of you when I wish Peterson a speedy recovery.

• Jeremy Hill practiced with the veterans in the morning session, as expected.

• Vadal Alexander did not practice in either session. I have not heard any explanation as to why he was absent. Jerald Hawkins was the number one right tackle in the morning session. The afternoon session had Derek Edinburg and Josh Boutte working as the tackles.

• Sophomore Jonah Austin and freshman Andy Dodd worked with the veteran offensive linemen, and all reports indicate that Dodd was very impressive. In Miles’ press conference on Monday, he named Dodd as an early standout.

• Freshmen Jeryl Brazil and Ricky Jefferson both practiced with the defensive backs and with the running backs. In what little bit I saw Monday, I was impressed with Jefferson's size and build.

• In the afternoon session, Terrance Magee and Jarrett Fobbs were the two running backs. I like the idea of moving Fobbs from WR to RB for added depth at the position. Fobbs was a heck of an all-purpose athlete at Huntington High School in Shreveport.

• The first team defensive line yesterday was Jermauria Rasco, Anthony Johnson, Ego Ferguson and Jordan Allen. Rasco continued to wear the green no-contact injury but participated at full speed.

• Kwon Alexander, Lamar Louis, and Lamin Barrow were the No. 1 linebackers in the morning session. Louis has good size and build for the Mike (middle) spot and should compete well for that role.

• After having a very impressive showing with the veterans in Day 1, tight end Desean Smith worked out with his fellow freshmen yesterday afternoon while JUCO tight end Logan Stokes took his place with the veterans.

• Wide receiver Travin Dural continues to impress in practice and appears to be ready for a breakout year.

• Freshman receiver Kevin Spears demonstrated good hands and reportedly was a standout in the afternoon session.

Yesterday I spent some time updating our 2013 LSU Football Roster to include the most current player heights and weights. Most of the veterans and early enrollee freshmen who were measured in the spring reported back at about the same size, although there were a few exceptions. The incoming freshmen, whose previous heights and weights were probably gathered during their recruitment, are almost all considerably bigger now then on the previous roster.

Here are a few tid-bits from the latest roster that jumped out at me:

• DB Rashard Robinson is included on LSU’s roster at No. 21 (6-1, 163, FR) and I take that as a good sign that he will soon be officially cleared.

• WR Quantavious Leslie is listed at 6-4, 175, which is 15 pounds lighter than previously published.

• WR/RB Jarrett Fobbs, whom I mentioned above is now getting a look at running back, gained nine pounds and checks in at 5-11, 197.

• LB Kendell Beckwith checked in at 6-3, 246, which is 21 pounds heavier that previously listed, and it looks like very good weight.

• OG Trai Tuner is 10 pounds heavier at 6-3, 316.

• OT Derek Edinburgh, who is the tallest player at 6-8, checked in 17 pounds heavier at 333.

• OL KJ Malone checked in 17 pounds lighter than previously listed at 6-3, 290.

• OL Andy Dodd checked in an inch taller and eight pounds lighter at an impressive 6-4, 322.

• TE Desean Smith is 15 pounds heavier than previously listed at 6-4, 241 and it suits him well.

• DTs Frank Herron (6-5, 275) and Greg Gilmore (6-4, 311) had the biggest weight changes as they were up 30 and 36 pounds respectively.

I also updated our Ticket Exchange page yesterday, and it includes several new listings.

In other football news, LSU’s first opponent, TCU, suffered another loss this week as starting linebacker Joel Hasley decided to leave the program. This is the third setback for the Horned Frogs who are set to start the season against LSU in just 24 days. You probably recall that TCU had already lost starting lineman Tayo Fabuluje, who also left the team for personal reasons, and had already suspended their star defensive end Devonte Fields for the first two games. This latest loss (Hasley) is a big one for the Horned Frogs as the junior linebacker was the second best tackler on the team with 79 tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss last season.

With the season-opener quickly approaching, today we’ll continue our jersey countdown by ooking at a very special former Tiger who wore No. 24 - Gaynell “Gus” Tinsley. Tinsley lettered at LSU from 1934-36 and was LSU’s first consensus All-American. He played on both sides of the ball as an end and was one of those special players that could have probably excelled at any position on the field. He also played baseball at LSU and was the captain of the team. After leading the Tigers to two SEC football titles and three Sugar Bowl appearances, Tinsley went on to a very successful NFL career with the Chicago Cardinals and was twice selected as an All-Pro selection. Later he returned to LSU to serve as Head Coach from 1948-54. Tinsley was a charter member of the LSU Athletics Hall of Fame and a member of the College Hall of Fame. His profile at the College Football Hall of Fame describes him this way: “Tinsley was a magnificent athletic specimen, standing 6-0, and weighing 196-pounds, size he used equally well as a defensive stalwart who was a blocking master.”

Speaking of former Tigers, five former LSU standouts and a former LSU coach will be inducted into the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 13 in the PMAC. The new inductees include inductees legendary men’s basketball coach Dale Brown, first-team All-America and Olympic baseball pitcher Kurt Ainsworth, two-sport basketball and track standout Frank Brian, national champion diver Ashley Culpepper-Gluck, three-time All-American gymnast Amy McClosky-McGinley, and All-American volleyball setter Daniela “Dani” Reis. The event begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event are available for $50 each or $500 for a table of 10. Tickets may be purchased by calling Daniel Nunes in the LSU Marketing Department at (225) 578-8960.

TCU vs. LSU:

must-see college football games of 2013 # 13
TCU earned its way into a BCS conference last season, but the Horned Frogs are still out to prove they can play with anyone. Expect a low-scoring battle between the Big 12 and SEC in this year's Cowboys Classic at AT&T Stadium. LSU is hoping to fix its offensive woes with new coordinator Cam Cameron coming in. Meanwhile, TCU is still working out its quarterback situation with the return of Casey Pachall (4) from rehab.

Countdown to SEC kickoff: 22 days

August, 7, 2013

By Chris Low | ESPN.com

The head coaches come and go in the SEC like the latest reality show on television. One day, they're here. The next day, they're gone.

The exception has been Mark Richt, who's entering his 13th season at Georgia. He's the dean of SEC coaches who's coached in the league at one school, which leads us to today's number as we continue to count down the days to kickoff: 38.

Going back to 2001 when he was hired away from Bobby Bowden's staff at Florida State, Richt has been the face of Georgia football. He’s also been the ultimate survivor in a league that chews up and spits out its head coaches. Anybody got any guesses on how many head coaches have been on the payroll at the other 12 SEC schools (not counting Missouri and Texas A&M) since Richt entered the league in 2001? That figure is an eye-popping 38 head coaches. Seven of the schools have had four different head coaches during Richt’s tenure, and every school’s had at least three head coaches during Richt’s stay except for LSU and South Carolina. Just in the past six seasons, counting the four new head coaches in the league this season, there have been 27 different head coaches at the 12 existing SEC schools. Again, that doesn’t count Missouri and Texas A&M since they just joined the league last year. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Richt despite his rock-solid consistency. He’s won 10 or more games in eight of his 12 seasons and has been to the SEC championship game each of the past two seasons. However, the Dawgs followed up a ho-hum 8-5 season in 2009 with Richt’s only losing season of his tenure in 2010, prompting the loudest outcry yet among some in the Georgia fan base that it might be time for new blood in Athens. But, hey, that's just life in the SEC. Richt’s Bulldogs have gone 7-1 in the league each of the past two seasons and were a tipped pass away against Alabama last season in the SEC championship game from potentially playing for the national title. Georgia hasn’t won an SEC title since 2005. If some new faces can come through on defense, this could be the season that drought ends, and maybe then Richt would get the credit he truly deserves. He's been more than just a consistent winner. He's been a steady hand in guiding that program, and he's always done it with the utmost class.

The SEC football teams are very balanced this football season:

Christian D’Andrea – Anchor of Gold: Greatest improvement: Ole Miss is the popular pick here, but anyone who watched that team at the end of last season should understand that much of the improvement in Oxford has already happened. Arkansas will be better, but a brutal four-game stretch (A&M, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama) could do some serious damage to their postseason hopes. Let’s swing for the fences and say Auburn. Partially because things couldn’t get much worse, and partially because Gus Malzahn has a ton of talent on his hands, and that typically goes well for him at Auburn.

Overrated: No one. Like in North Korea, the sun always shines on the SEC, and everyone is exactly as great as we say they are.

An East Coast autograph broker told ESPN on Tuesday that Johnny Manziel was paid $7,500 for signing approximately 300 mini- and full-sized helmets on Jan. 11-12 while he was attending the Walter Camp Football Foundation event.

The broker played two cell phone videos for ESPN showing Manziel signing white Texas A&M helmets and footballs laid out on a bed in a hotel room. The video does not show Manziel accepting any money.

The broker said the room was at The Omni in New Haven, Conn., during the Camp event. He said the signing took place at three different times on Jan. 11-12, totaling about an hour.

The broker and his partner originally requested money to release the videos for use on ESPN, which ESPN declined to pay. The broker did allow ESPN's Joe Schad to view the videos. Later, the broker said he had decided not to sell the videos.

The broker said the videos, approximately nine minutes in length in total, were initially shot only to be used as proof with authenticating company PSA/DNA.
