Oh God what did we do to our society. - Top-ranked LSU welcomes nemesis Auburn to Tiger Stadium

Mass Hysteria

This article is about the state of mind. For other uses, see Hysteria (disambiguation).
Hysteria, in its colloquial use, describes unmanageable emotional excesses. People who are "hysterical" often lose self-control due to an overwhelming fear that may be caused by events in one's past[citation needed] that involved some sort of severe conflict. The fear can be centered on a body part, or most commonly, on an imagined problem with that body part. Disease is a common complaint; see also body dysmorphic disorder and hypochondriasis. Generally, modern medical professionals have given up the use of "hysteria" as a diagnostic category, replacing it with more precisely defined categories such as somatization disorder. In 1980, the American Psychiatric Association officially changed the diagnosis of "hysterical neurosis, conversion type" to "conversion disorder"

Oh God what did we do to our society?

Tinker:

Everywhere that we see a television set we also see the channelized shell game by the TV networks to gain viewers.

Hysteria reigns supreme in the United States of America and we quickly start hearing the cries of more and more gun control, as if government control is not bad enough now with the NSA recording our every move and talk.

The only gun control that would stop people from having access to guns would be a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons, like Australia. Taking the American people guns away from them in the name of social safety.

Please America stop acting like cows running around mindless off the nearest cliff.

So are you eating to much sugar, smoking too many cigarettes, and drinking to much alcohol, as you keep swearing out loud driving without a seat belt, ect. On and on it goes in our America social life until we have reached the indigestible end of the government control road.

So where do we go from here ladies and gentleman. There was never any protection from the harm that can happen to us in any given moment of any given day in our life.

Fear has become the worst destructive force in our America society today, because of the sensitizing programing on television. Tell television "Hasta la vista, baby" and stop given way to the fear in your daily life. Bring back some of the old dull truth of bravery, honesty, and intelligent study into your daily American life.

There is no protection.

Just do yourselves a favor and use your own commons sense staying as safe as is humanely possible. And enjoy the time you live in now because tomorrow is another day and anything can happen.

CNN: AR-15 May Not Have Been Used in Navy Yard Shooting After All

Sep. 17, 2013 10:41am

Initial reports that the gunman in Monday’s shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard used an AR-15 rifle may have been incorrect, CNN is reporting:
[F]ederal law enforcement sources told CNN Tuesday that authorities have recovered three weapons from the scene of the mass shooting, including one — a shotgun — that investigators believe [shooter Aaron] Alexis brought in to the compound. The other two weapons, which sources say were handguns, may have been taken from guards at the Navy complex.
The sources, who have detailed knowledge of the investigation, cautioned that initial information that an AR-15 was used in the shootings may have been incorrect. It is believed that Alexis had rented an AR-15, but returned it before Monday morning’s shootings. Authorities are still investigating precisely how many weapons Alexis had access to and when.
The New York Daily News devoted its front page Tuesday to the supposed use of an AR-15, with the blaring headline “Same Gun Different Slay”:

Watch What Happened When an MSNBC Host Tried to Argue Politics With a Professional Chess Player

Garry Kasparov, former World Chess Champion and Chairman of the Human Rights Foundation, sat down Monday with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell to discuss President Barack Obama’s infamous “red line” remarks regarding the Syrian civil war.

Kasparov believes the president failed by not following through on his claim that the use of Chemical weapons in Syria would cross a “red line.” He believes the president’s use of the term required him to act after the supposed line was crossed.
So THIS Is What Happens When an MSNBC Host Tries to Argue Politics With a Professional Chess Player Police officers detain former world chess champion Garry Kasparov, a leading opposition activist, outside the court where a trial of the feminist punk group

Pussy Riot is held, in Moscow, Friday, Aug. 17, 2012. (AP)
Instead, Kasparov argues, Russian President Vladimir Putin was able to broker an extremely attractive deal with the U.S. and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is being treated as a partner and not as a war criminal.

Of course, MSNBC personalities don’t see it this way. They see the U.S./Russia deal as a victory for President Obama.

So MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell tried to argue this point — with a world chess champion.
The United States already “lost” in its negotiations with Syria, Kasparov said Monday. Because as long as Assad keeps “complying,” or pretends.

$2,472,542,000,000: Record Taxation Through August; Deficit Still $755B

September 13, 2013 - 1:35 PM

U.S. Treasury U.S. Treasury (AP Photo)
(CNSNews.com) - The federal government raked in a record of approximately $2,472,542,000,000 in tax revenues through the first eleven months of fiscal 2013, which ran from Oct. 1, 2012 through the end of August, according to the Monthly Treasury Statement for August.

That is up about $285 billion from the approximately $2,187,527,000,000 in taxes the government took in through August of fiscal 2012.

Despite these record tax revenues, the federal government still accumulated a $755 billion deficit in the first eleven months of fiscal 2013. Total federal spending through the first eleven months of the fiscal year was $3.228 trillion.

At the end of last year, the president struck a deal with Republicans in Congress to enact legislation that increased taxes. This included pushing the top income tax rate from 35 percent to 39.6 percent, increasing the top tax rate on dividends and capital gains from 15 percent to 20 percent, and phasing out personal exemptions and deductions starting at an annual income level of $250,000.
An additional 3.8 percent tax on dividends, interests, capital gains and royalties--that was embedded in the Obamacare law--also took effect this year.

The record of $2,472,542,000,000 in federal tax revenues through August is in non-inflation-adjusted dollars. However, even when adjusted for inflation, the $2,472,542,000,000 brought in through federal taxes in the first eleven months of fiscal 2013 exceeds the real federal tax revenue in any of the last 16 years except for 2007, when federal tax revenues were approximately $2,282,318,000,000 in 2007 dollars and $2,571,309,020,000 in 2013 dollars.

ACLU: James Comey, New FBI Director, Must End 'Unchecked Abuse Of Authority'

Posted: 09/16/2013 9:00 pm EDT
WASHINGTON -- FBI Director James Comey should reverse sweeping government surveillance practices begun since the Sept. 11 attacks that encroach on civilians' constitutional rights, the American Civil Liberties Union asserted in a report.

"FBI abuse of power must be met with efforts of reform, just as much now as in the days of J. Edgar Hoover," the report, to be issued on Tuesday, said. It recommended that the president, the attorney general and Congress tighten surveillance guidelines and exercise vigorous oversight.

Despite its role as the agency requesting phone call records on every American on behalf of the National Security Agency, and aggressive investigations of American Muslim communities, there is little evidence that all the FBI's post-Sept. 11 powers have made the country safer, the report said.

Terrorists like the Boston bombers were still able to slip through holes in government surveillance.

The civil liberties group's report arrives as Comey enters his first month as FBI director, replacing Robert Mueller, who headed the bureau for 12 years and oversaw its shift toward counterterrorism.

Under Mueller, the report argued, the FBI extended its domestic intelligence and law enforcement powers until it had "unprecedented power and international reach." With that expansion has come wide-ranging civil liberties violations, from massive no-fly lists to the phone records collection program made infamous by ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden, the report argued.

Bill Cosby Talks 'No-groes,' Black Leadership With CNN's Don Lemon (VIDEO)

Posted: 09/16/2013 2:15 pm EDT  |  Updated: 09/16/2013 4:28 pm EDT

Wanting African-Americans to take responsibility for their lives, their kids and their education, Bill Cosby has offered some strong words to a group of people he has dubbed "no-groes."

In an interview with CNN's Don Lemon Saturday, the comedian was asked to reflect on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and to comment on the future of black leadership in the United States.

“I think it has to come from the universities,” Cosby said, stressing that education is the key to a community's success. And it's not just prestigious universities, either.

"Okay, you backed up and didn’t do well. You quit school but now you find you need that high school credential. Go to the community college,” he advised.

The veteran actor went on to say that while women appear to be the leaders in the majority of households, he hopes to see more men step up to the plate.

"What we need is for people to realize -- 'I want to raise my kid. I want to go back and get my three kids. I want to take on that responsibility. I want to love my children,'" he said, adding that he would love to see more black men taking a more visible role in parenting.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

LSU will play its third straight home game on Saturday when the No. 6 Tigers begin SEC play with a 6:45 p.m. contest against Auburn in Tiger Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN with Brad Nessler, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe on the call. Interestingly enough, LSU brings the nation’s longest current September winning streak into the contest at 28 straight, but the Bengal Tigers’ last September loss came against Auburn in 2006. The Auburn Tigers, under first-year coach Gus Malzahn, are off to a 3-0 start after opening conference play last week with a 24-20 win over Mississippi State, and will be LSU’s stiffest competition to date.

Before getting to yesterday’s weekly Lunch with Les presser, I want to share with you this announcement since many of you have asked... The LSU-Georgia game in Week 5 (September 28) will be carried by CBS as their SEC Game of the Week and will kickoff at 2:30. I have adjusted my LSU Football Schedule accordingly.

Now back to the normal order of business... Coach Miles addressed the media for his weekly “Lunch with Les” press conference to discuss last week’s big win and this weekend’s contest, and I’ve posted a full transcript of the conference here. For your convenience, here is a quick summary of a few key points:

• The best news to come from the presser was that Lamin Barrow, Craig Loston, and TraDavious White are all practicing this week and will be ready to go this weekend. Loston was injured the week before last and was withheld from action against Kent State, although Coach Miles said he could have played if needed. Barrow and White suffered minor injuries in the Kent State game but are fine now. On a side-note: I don‘t think enough has been said about how fortunate LSU has been to remain healthy through the first three games. Last year at this time the team was dealing with several injuries to key players including Alfred Blue, Chris Faulk, P.J. Lonergan, Craig Loston and Josh Downs.

• Coach Miles started the presser by complimenting Zach Mettenberger, saying that he’s “geared in” and now leads the SEC in Pass Efficiency.

• Miles also spoke very highly of defensive tackle Ego Ferguson, and he’s not the only one singing his praises. Yesterday Ferguson was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after a dominating performance against Kent State.

• When asked who might emerge as the third receiver in the passing game, Coach Miles said that Travin Dural, Kadron Boone and John Diarse are all players who on any given day could end up with five to nine catches and a big night.

• Speaking of Dural, Coach Miles that he still has great confidence in him returning punts, despite the fumble in his first attempt. Miles pointed out that he put Dural right back out there and that he fielded an extremely difficult punt on his second attempt.

• Coach Miles called running back Terrance Magee a “tough runner” and said he looks forward to getting Magee in games “early and late.”

• Miles also praised “Big Beckwith” and said that they are working to settle in on a five-linebacker rotation. Miles didn’t say this, but I assume that four of the five will be Barrow, Tahj Jones, Kwon Alexander, and DJ Welter, and that the fifth will either be Lamar Louis or Beckwith.

• For the second week in a row, Miles spoke very highly of Kwon Alexander, saying that once he fully understands his position he will be as good as it gets.

In other LSU football news, I’ve updated my unofficial LSU Football Depth Chart to match the newly released official chart, but as usual I’ve taken a stab at going a little deeper at a few positions. The main changes are at cornerback where at right cornerback Jalen Collins “or” TraDavious White is listed as No. 1, at running back where all of the top-4 use “or” although Jeremy Hill is listed first, and in special teams where there's been a new position listed.... FG Return Specialist!

In recruiting news, yesterday I heard the unfortunate news that LSU target Davon Godchaux (DL, 6'4", 265, Plaquemine, No. 12 on my list of Top LA Prospects) will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Also, on a more positive note, I heard that Malachi Dupre (WR, 6'3", 180) and Kenny Young (LB, 6'2", 225), both of John Curtis (5th and 13th respectively on my list), will be unofficially visiting LSU this weekend for the Auburn game.

Note to those of you participating in our Louisiana High School Football Pickem Contest: Our Week 2 results are in and user “watod” is now the undisputed leader in the overall standings after two weeks of voting. You may recall that watod tied for first place in Week 1 with user NavyGunner (William Snider). However, in a bit of a surprise, user Acadiana Postgame came out of nowhere and won Week 2 by correctly picking 111 winners out of 143 games. (Watod and Acadiana Postgame, please shoot me an email so I can call you by name when giving you props.) Voting for Week 3 is now underway and will close Thursday at 5 p.m. if you haven’t yet signed up to participate, it's not too late as we’ll continue to name a weekly winner, as well as an overall leader, throughout the season.

In closing, I’d like to thank all of you who commented on the fishing pics I posted yesterday. Man, there sure are a lot of fishermen who read this site, and it was great hearing from you. If you missed the pics and want to check them out, they’re under the Lagniape tab of our Media Gallery. Oh, and I'll be updating our Ticket Exchange again later this morning.

GAME NOTES: The top-ranked LSU Tigers have won all seven of their games by double figures thus far, and they will attempt to remain unbeaten this weekend when the 19th-ranked Auburn Tigers come to Baton Rouge for an SEC showdown.

The winner of the Auburn/LSU game has won the SEC West and advanced to Atlanta for the conference championship in five of the last eight seasons, and seven of the past 11.

Auburn is facing its third top-10 opponent in the last four weeks, so the stiff competition is nothing new for the defending national champs. Gene Chizik's Tigers need one more victory to earn bowl eligibility, as they are 5-2 to date. Last weekend, the club put forth a tremendous defensive performance in a 17-6 victory over Florida.

As for LSU, it has posted eight straight double-digit wins dating back to last season, and that string ties a school record. The Tigers have won four road games thus far and have defeated four ranked opponents, so the 7-0 start is certainly legitimate. Last weekend, Tennessee was no match for LSU, as the Knoxville crowd looked on in disgust as the road team rolled to a 38-7 triumph.

"We came into a big-time venue, and we took the field with the enthusiasm that depicts the environment," said LSU coach Les Miles after the romp. "I felt like our guys did what they needed to do. That wasn't our best game, certainly, but we did what we needed to do to secure a victory."
LSU holds a narrow 23-20-1 edge in the all-time series with Auburn, which including five straight victories in Baton Rouge.

Auburn is far less explosive on offense than it was last season when Cam Newton was under center. The 2011 Tigers are generating a mediocre 26.3 ppg and 360.9 total ypg, numbers that can certainly stand some improvement. Leading the club from the quarterback position is Barrett Trotter, who has completed 54.4 percent of his passes for 1,009 yards and 10 touchdowns with six interceptions.

Emory Blake is the top wideout with four touchdowns and 33 receiving yards, but the star of the offense is clearly tailback Michael Dyer who has posted 752 yards and eight scores.

The offense was far from explosive against Florida last Saturday, mustering 278 yards in the clash. Blake missed that game with a knee injury and is questionable for this weekend's affair. Trotter did throw a touchdown pass against the Gators, but he was ineffective otherwise and was pulled in favor of Clint Moseley.

"We will evaluate it and we made a change at halftime and put Clint (Moseley) in there and Barrett (Trotter) has done a real nice job for us, and so we are not in any way, shape or form saying Barrett can't play anymore," said Chizik after the win. "That's not the message. The message is that we needed a spark."

Chizik hopes the spark leads to a raging fire of success as Moseley has been given the starting nod in this week's game.

Through seven contests, Auburn is yielding 25.9 ppg and 404.4 total ypg, more numbers that simply won't get the job done in the SEC. The Tigers are yielding 4.4 rushing ypc and have given up 12 rushing scores to date. The club surrenders 222.0 passing yards per contest and has turned the ball over 13 times.

Fortunately, the defense came through in a big way against Florida last weekend, holding the Gators without a touchdown to the delight of the home crowd. Auburn yielded a mere 194 total yards in the affair and came up with four takeaways.

"Dominant. I think that is the only word you could use," said Chizik of the defensive effort.
The two-quarterback system is working just fine for the top-ranked Tigers, who got major contributions from both Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson in the 31- point romp over Tennessee last Saturday. Lee completed 10-of-14 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers, who are off to a 7-0 start for the second straight year. Jefferson carried the ball 14 times for 73 yards and a score for LSU, which completed its second straight sweep of the SEC Eastern Division. For the first time in school history, LSU has swept teams from the other half of the league in back-to-back years.
"I liked using both quarterbacks," said Miles. "I think that's what's best, what we need to do. And I think both guys do different things, and we like to do that. We will continue to do that. There is a want for both guys to have success and have team success."

LSU is generating 38.4 ppg and 369.1 total ypg, and the scoring output is obviously more impressive than the yardage. The Tigers have been successful both throwing and running the ball. Pacing the ground attack is Spencer Ware with 512 yards and six touchdowns, while Rueben Randle leads the receivers with 28 catches for 532 yards and five scores. Lee, who has started every game and has thrown 11 touchdowns against only one interception, is the more polished passer, while Jefferson brings a great deal of athleticism to the position. In the three games he has played since returning from suspension, Jefferson has run for a pair of TDs and thrown for another.

The offense won't be at full strength this week, as Ware has recently been handed a one-game suspension.

The fact that Tennessee managed only seven points at home last weekend is an obvious feather in the cap of the LSU defense. Just 6-of-20 UT passes were completed against the stellar Tiger secondary, and LSU finished with a pair of interceptions.

It is hard to find a better defensive team in all of college football than LSU, which is surrendering only 11.7 ppg and 251.9 total ypg. The Tigers are yielding a low 2.5 yards per rushing attempt, and they have 10 interceptions to go along with six fumble recoveries. The takeaways, coupled with 13 sacks, are obviously highly impressive. Defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who has six takeaways personally, may be the nation's top defender, although he will also be absent from the lineup as a result of a one-game suspension.

Auburn will put up a fight, but LSU is simply too tough, especially at home. Despite the losses on both sides of the ball for the home team, expect this battle of Tigers to go to the undefeated squad.

Miles, Tigers ready for SEC play to begin
9/16/2013

By LUKE JOHNSON
Tiger Rag Assistant Editor

It became clear early in LSU coach Les Miles weekly press luncheon that this week would be different from the first three.

The opponent waiting for the Tigers on Saturday belongs to the Southeastern Conference, and it just so happens to be one that plays LSU close no matter what the rankings.

"You better be ready,” Miles said about playing Auburn this weekend. "It's going to be a highly contested, very competitive game. It generally goes down to the end.If you enjoy competition at the very highest level, you love these games.”

Auburn comes into Saturday’s game on the heels of winning its first conference game in almost a year last weekend, a 24-20 come from behind victory against Mississippi State.

New coach Gus Malzahn’s Tigers are 3-0 and looking like a much different squad that finished last season 0-8 in the SEC. Using Malzahn’s high-volume up-tempo offensive philosophy, Auburn has averaged 238.7 yards per game on the ground using a variety of runners.

Miles said that when preparing for a team that likes to quicken the pace offensively, the key is for the defensive players to be prepared at all times.

"Ready is the issue,” Miles said. "You have to make sure that the call is in, communications is done and we're ready, and we're not paused to communicate but in fact we are feet north and south, keyed in on our responsibility and ready to play.”

With the increasing usage of fast-paced offenses in college football, it’s not as difficult to prepare for as it once was. Miles said he has devoted at least a portion of his practices to stopping quick-strike offenses for some time now.

"It’s something that we've practiced, in my opinion, every day since probably two springs ago,” Miles said. "There is always a piece of every practice donated to an up-tempo style of offense. So we feel like we've got a handle on it, it just needs to be made perfect.

It’s not like Malzahn is a new face around these parts, either. He served as Auburn’s offensive coordinator from 2009-11, facing the Tigers three times in that time span with mixed results.

With eventual Heisman winner Cam Newton running the offense in 2010, Malzahn’s Tigers rolled up 526 total yards against LSU in Auburn, with Newton accounting for 303 yards. But in 2009 and 2011, LSU bottled Malzahn’s attack up, holding Auburn to an average of 220 yards and 10 points.
Auburn comes into the game with the SEC’s worst pass defense, giving up an average of 276.3 yards per game. But Miles expects his offense, which has been chugging along with relative ease this season, to experience a little more difficulty as SEC play starts.

"We expect that the balls that will be thrown will be thrown a little bit open but still open,” Miles said. "Better secondaries, better pass rush, we recognize that in preparing for that as well.”

QUOTABLE

"He has great speed and he is a very, very vicious tackler. He will tackle you with his speed.” – Miles on sophomore linebacker Kwon Alexander.

"He’s going to get what the play could be turned into.” – Miles on junior running back Terrance Magee.

NOTES
  • Junior defensive tackle Ego Ferguson was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after posting career highs in tackles (8), tackles for loss (1.5) and sacks (1).
  • Both Lamin Barrow and Craig Loston should be ready to go for Saturday’s game. Loston did not play against Kent State, though Miles said he probably could have. Barrow left the game early with a minor injury, and Miles said he could’ve gone back in the game if needed. Tre’Davious White, who missed the second half of the Kent State game, will also be ready to go.
  • LSU, ranked No. 6 in the most recent polls, heads into the Auburn contest ranked in the top-10 nationally for the 12th straight season.
  • The Tigers have not trailed this season.
  • Statistical tidbits: Jeremy Hill leads the team with a 9.8 yards per carry average … Zach Mettenberger is averaging nearly 18 yards per completion this season … Mettenberger leads the SEC in passing efficiency … Odell Beckham Jr. has nearly half (9-of-20) of LSU’s offensive plays that went for 20 or more yards this season … Beckham and Jarvis Landry have combined to snag 32 of LSU’s 46 pass completions this season … Ferguson leads the team in tackles (16) and is tied for the lead in tackles for loss (2.5) and sacks (1).

Chief Peace Pipe Picklehead:

We know what this years LSU offense is going to do against Auburn, they are going to make touchdowns. Because they have already did it, and only need to keep it up.

But what I want to know about this year football team is does these LSU defensive football players know what they want.

And that is what I really like about this year's LSU offense, they want to score. We can just feel that emotion loud and clear.

But what I want to see next is what does this years LSU defensive football players want. Do they want to become very aggressive and go create havoc to Auburn's offense. By tackling quickly and hard, attacking the Auburn players on every down. Does these LSU tiger defensive players really want to do that?
