WASHINGTON (CBS DC/AP) — Calling for
“all hands on deck” to assist the economy, President Barack Obama is
urging his Cabinet to identify ways to keep his administration relevant
to people struggling in the up-and-down recovery.
With two weeks left before delivering an economy-focused State of the Union address to Congress, Obama is picking up the pace of his jobs message and demonstrating how he can advance his economic agenda administratively and through his ability to coax action from important interest groups.
“We’re not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we’re providing Americans the kind of help they need. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone,” Obama said Tuesday as he convened his first Cabinet meeting of the year.

Virginia Tech offensive line coach Jeff Grimes’s first season with the Hokies will also be his last.
Grimes has accepted a job offer from LSU Coach Les Miles to become the Tigers’ new offensive line coach, according to two people in Virginia Tech’s athletic department familiar with the situation.
Grimes, 45, came to Virginia Tech last February from Auburn along
with offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler as part of Coach Frank Beamer’s
offensive coaching staff overhaul. It’s unclear at this point exactly
why he’s leaving after just one season, but money was likely one of the
factors.Grimes has accepted a job offer from LSU Coach Les Miles to become the Tigers’ new offensive line coach, according to two people in Virginia Tech’s athletic department familiar with the situation.
Grimes was scheduled to make more than $280,000 over the next year at Virginia Tech. He earned $265,000 this past season, with Virginia Tech paying $150,000 and Auburn paying the rest as part of Grimes’s buyout. He also was due a $50,000 retention bonus if still on Virginia Tech’s staff on Jan. 1, 2015.
But LSU — which had the highest-paid assistant coaching staff in the country in 2013, according to USA Today — paid former offensive line coach Greg Studrawa $510,000 last year (Studrawa, the longest-tenured coach on Miles’s staff, left the team last week). Grimes will become the first coach to spend only one season on Beamer’s staff since Gary Tranquill was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 1994.
Like Virginia Tech’s entire offense, Grimes’s first year as an offensive line coach was a work in progress this past season. He had limited depth to work with and started a true freshman at left tackle (Jonathon McLaughlin) as the Hokies finished second-to-last in the ACC in rushing yards per game (119.8). Les Miles: ‘A week, 10 days’ until LSU hires offensive line coach
“I wouldn’t think for, oh, a week, 10 days,” Miles said when asked about a timetable for a replacement for Greg Studrawa.
Miles spoke at a news conference Tuesday announcing the return of several junior players, namely left tackle La’el Collins.
Several reports Tuesday indicated Virginia Tech offensive line coach Jeff Grimes is a leading candidate to replace Studrawa, who “left” the program after seven years, the university announced last week.
A radio station in Virginia, 24/7 Sports and coachingsearch.com have linked Grimes with the LSU opening.
Asked broadly about the vacancy, Miles said, “We have a number of guys we’re looking at. I can tell you this, it’s got to be a guy who can show us he can improve what is already a pretty good line. He’s going to have to have run-pass technical expertise, guys he’s put in the league (NFL). Coaching in the league is a thought. Not necessarily a prerequisite.”
LSU has interviewed at least two candidates for the job — McNeese State line coach Rob Sale and Grambling assistant Ben Wilkerson — but both former LSU linemen are seen as long shots.
LSU is after a more experienced coach.
Grimes is the Hokies offensive line coach and run game coordinator. He just completed his first season at VT. He was previously at Auburn from 2009-12 and is a Texas native who graduated from UTEP.
Collins said the future of the line coach “played a little bit into” his decision to either return or enter the NFL draft.
“But I knew our coaches were going to do a great job of bringing the next best guy in for us. I trust those guys and I trusted this process,” Collins said.

football for LSU. Is the kind of inner character that restores my faith
in this generations future for my neighborhood, and states population
social welfare. That is exactly the quality of spirit that made what we
enjoy about our country society today. I just wish that all of the
fighting tiger college football players felt that way about living up to
their University's scholarship.

with the help from some true friends and teachers. The future LSU tiger
college football players can start a new inspiring spirit of living up
to the university's football scholarship, and further setting a higher
standard for all the younger generation to follow.
It is the people that holds the hopes of our countrymen investment, not the process, that is truly what matter to our country's great society attitude. Are we going to be a winning team, or aren't we.

5th Grader Reading Skills....Does LSU have this issue? (Posted on 1/15/14 at 12:02 am)
I apologize if german.
I am not sure how many of you guys heard this news story going around about this research that was conducted at UNC that found that almost 7%-18% of basketball, football students in many universities have reading skills below 5th Grade Level.
What %age of LSU student athletes do y'all think have similar issues?
