I
like watching the embers in the wood fires that made a natural glowing warmth
without the blaze as the wood turned to coal in my fireplace in N'Awlins, on
the cold winter nights. We had a fireplace in every room in the shotgun home we
live in there then.
I
also like the wood burning in the 500 pound steel drums that the Longshoreman
use to keep warm out on the Riverfront working as longshoreman. In fact I like
fire's as a source to keep warm by almost anywhere. Just as long as nothing
burns us from doing it.
When
I lived in Tamper Bay Florida I built a fire in our backyard one night, there
for me and Tommy. After a while we heard sirens screaming that kept getting
closer to where we were, I told Tommy I hope nothing caught on fire from our
fire." Did you see any burning ash floating away from our fire?"
"No"
said Tommy.
Just
about then the fireman ran from around our house saying. "Oh Shit, they
are burning a camp fire."
I
said, "Oh man I am sorry if I cause you guys all this trouble because I
just wanted to give my son the fun of talking around a campfire, you
know." The Fireman said. "Don't worry about it Mr. Williams no
trouble here...Just watch that nothing goes wrong." I said that I would,
and they left.
Some fool neighbor close to us, call
in the alarm, the crazy fools.
