Deja Vu with Les Miles, and LSU too.

Thomas Williams

The long hot days of Summer keeps leading me into this coming Fall Deja Vu experience with Les Miles LSU football team. And of course I suspect the 2016 LSU college football sason will not be much different than before I knew better listening to what Les Miles says.

This LSU sports column was written on September 18, 2015 at 9:01 AM, last year. So either way we look at what Coach Miles says now LSU keeps losing the most important college football games because he can't coach.

Quietly, LSU coach Les Miles thinks he might have the best team in the SEC

SU coach Les Miles has always had a reputation for being a low talker, but sometimes his voice can bottom out so completely that it's hard to hear him past the brim of his hat.

Then maybe he speaks even softer when he thinks he has a pretty good team.

Last week, he half whispered through a post-game interview after LSU's 21-19 victory at Mississippi State. It's as if he didn't want anyone to know he might have a Heisman Trophy candidate in the backfield, a defense jacked with NFL talent and maybe, just maybe, the best team in the SEC West.

A victory against Auburn on Saturday in LSU's first home game of the season might require a lip reader.

After a few frustrating seasons of stagnant offenses, lopsided losses and one glaring losing streak to Alabama coach Nick Saban, Miles will not be overselling expectations. It's far too early for any real excitement down in Baton Rouge, but buzz on the bayou is growing.

"It's interesting," Miles said. "We're a young team with some veterans, and if they make a decision that they want to be very, very special they're going to have to commit to it, and it's going to take a lot of hard work, but this team has a lot of talent.

"I'm going to suggest that they need to make that kind of commitment."
