Ouachita Parish District Attorney Jerry Jones confirms that the charges against Alabama football players Cam Robinson and Laurence 'Hootie' Jones have been dropped, according to Monroe TV station KNOE.

The two former Monroe Neville High standouts were found by police May 17 at 1 a.m. in a parked car in a Monroe park with a bag of marijuana and two handguns, one of which was allegedly stolen, the police report said. Both were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and illegally carrying a weapon.

Jones cited insufficient evidence in proving who was in possession of the gun and the drugs, thus, he is dropping the charges.

"I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this," Jones said, "is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning."

In 2014 Monroe News-Star World story when Jones was elected for the fifth time to a six-year term as DA, he was described as a prosecutor who has a reputation for a light touch with nonviolent criminals and an iron first with violent ones.

Robinson is one of the top offensive linemen in the nation and a two-year starter at Alabama going into his junior season. He is expected to be a high draft pick in the 2017 draft if he leaves before his senior year.

Jones is a reserve defensive back who played in nine games last season with two tackles.

If Alabama wins the SEC again in 2016 that reality will be the shield becomes a badge of shame for all of the other college SEC football team from then on. So if you are worth your salt LSU, please beat those guys on the football field now.

LOL North Louisiana is all Bama but all you see in the stands at La Tech, ULM and NSU games are LSU apparel. Funny how that works. Last I read on here everything above I-20 was Ar-kansas unless they can play a sport. Then it is bring em down...........

These young men are from the area and someone with pull in that area got them off. I would have rather them get probation. That bogus reasoning was just that. Bogus!
