Update from Senator Markwayne Mullin: "Alright, guys, it's been a long, fought-out time getting to where we're at right now. Now, we didn't pass the 'One Big, Beautiful Bill.' A lot of people are saying, "Yeah, we passed the bill, when’s the President going to sign it?" This was just a procedural motion. I know the Senate rules are somewhat complicated, but please just deal with me. What we did last night was we passed the House version of the bill. Now, all that meant is that we had a motion to proceed, to basically in our terms, say "to get on the bill."

Once we pass the motion to proceed, now we take our amendments and literally place them on top of the House version. Typically at this point, we go right into 20 hours of debate and then into voterama. But the Senate is using a privileged motion requiring the clerk to read every line, line by line, and it'll take roughly 15 hours. They're saying that the American people should have the right to read the bill. Well, the American people have had the right to read the bill because the bill we passed is the same bill that the House sent to us weeks ago. The amendments, the reason why we have amendments, is because everybody's went through the bill and we started amending it to try and make it better.

But great, I hope the American people listen to every line because what they're going to see is all the great stuff we did like permanent tax cuts, preventing a $4 trillion tax increase to the American people, securing our border— something that Democrats probably would like hidden considering that they said it couldn’t be done, making sure we're energy independent so we're not reliant on Middle East oil and gas, and then making sure we have a strong and resilient military. I’m sure those are all things that Democrats don’t want, but the American people do because this is why they elected us in November.

Now, when all these procedural motions and the debate and all that end, it'll end about 1 o’clock tomorrow morning. Then we will start the voterama. The voterama is going to take however long the Democrats want to stay up and fight. My bet is we can outlast them because I’ve seen Schumer in the gym— not exactly a specimen of endurance. So I believe that they'll run out of steam sometime Monday and we'll send this amended version back over to the House. The House will pass it and President Trump’s going to sign this on July 4th. He’s very excited, by the way. He’s so engaged. Last night, right before I went to preside, I guess, on the Senate floor, he was actually on the phone talking to me about it, wanting to know where we're at, what steps need to be done, and how he can help. This guy is so full of energy, it’s hard not to get excited when you’re following a leader like that. So stay
