LSU redshirt freshman guard Trai Turner ready for increased playing time
on October 09, 2012
Baton Rouge -- Six games into the season, the No. 9 LSU football team is dealing with a multitude of injuries on both sides of the ball. When the Tigers lost junior right quard Josh Williford to a head injury against Florida, freshman right guard Trai Turner stepped in and took the first meaningful snaps of his collegiate career.
Trai Turner
"For
me it just solidifies that my hard work isn't in vain," said Turner, a
New Orleans native who played at St. Augustine. "Knowing that my coaches
are helping me, my teammates are helping me, I want to show them I'm
going to work
my hardest for those guys."
Turner said he
hopes to play well against South Carolina and that he wants to stay
healthy, considering the rash of injuries to LSU's offensive line.
"If
I could fight for a position then I'll do that but I'm just keeping up with my role
and trying to be a dominant force for LSU," Turner said. Read more...http://www.nola.com/ lsu/index.ssf/2012/10/lsu_ redshirt_freshman_offensiv_1. html

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
Good morning, Tiger Fans.
For the second week in a row, LSU will face a top-10 opponent from the SEC East when they take on a very good third-ranked South Carolina team. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in a sold out Tiger Stadium, and the game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
LSU enters this weekend’s game coming off its first regular season loss since November of 2010, and Coach Miles is 17-1 in games following a loss. Also, LSU is among the hardest teams in the nation to defeat at home as the Tigers have won a nation-leading 21 straight in Tiger Stadium. LSU’s last home loss came on October 10, 2009 to top-ranked Florida, 13-3. Since that loss, the Tigers have reeled off the 21 consecutive home wins with 15 of those came by double-digit margins. Of course, I don't expect the Tigers to win this week’s game by double digits, but I do think they will surprise a lot of people who have written them off.
As I’ve said before, this weekend’s game could very well be a pivotal, defining point in this season. A win would keep all of the Tigers’ goals well within reach and would be just what the doctor ordered for the team and fans. A loss, especially a poorly played loss, would likely be a sign of rough times to come as the next three opponents on LSU's schedule have a combined record of 14-1 (Texas A&M 4-1, Alabama 5-0, and Mississippi State 5-0).
