Statistically Speaking Less Miles vs Nick Saban

Man o’ War. John Taintor Foote: ” and the sheer beauty of him produced in me a feeling of awe, almost of worship. I was moved as though I listened to the Seventh Symphony or viewed the Winged Victory; and this was fit and proper, for my eyes were drinking in a piece by the greatest of all masters.”

Les Miles is no Seabiscuit!?"

Seventh game for two men born under eighth sign

If Les Miles and Nick Saban were baseball managers rather than elite SEC football masters, their battle this Saturday would be the seventh game of the World Series. After six games, Miles and Saban share three victories apiece in a colossal grudge match. Their seventh encounter should determine which coach takes control in an epic athletic war filled with mutual passion and hate.
Miles and Saban have more than a few things in common. Two years separate the coaches in age, and their birthdays are only ten days apart. Miles and Saban are born under the sun sign of Scorpio, but their most memorable tests have come under moons in Tuscaloosa and New Orleans.
A search of traits from a plethora of websites specializing in Astrology produces a revealing profile for Scorpio males such as Miles and Saban.
Scorpio men are intensely passionate. They look totally calm and composed, but beneath the outer layer, there is smoldering passion…A furious Scorpio man can give you lifetime-lasting scars-especially when he is hurt. He has to win in each and every aspect of his life and failure breaks something inside him. Yet he will display perfect sportsmanship and never even let you know that defeat has bothered him.
Saban was devastated after being outcoached and losing 9-6 at home to LSU last year with a superior team, and the Alabama coach got even in Miles’ backyard with a 21-0 shutout in the BCS Championship Game on Jan. 9. Read and see more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=228622

Progressing Tiger offense faces toughest test yet
Written by Hunt Palmer, Senior Writer

By any measure, it’s been a long time.
Seven hundred twenty-three days. One hundred twenty-eight in-game minutes. One hundred two offensive plays.
It’s been that long since Stevan Ridley took a handoff from Jordan Jefferson and blasted through the offensive left side and into Tiger Stadium’s north endzone for a go-ahead touchdown against Alabama. Since then, LSU has not pierced the goalline against the Crimson Tide.
Of course, nearly all of that drought is courtesy of an Alabama defense that yielded six starters to the NFL Draft in the first five rounds. Undeterred, the Alabama defense descending on Tiger Stadium this weekend ranks atop the country in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense and passing defense.
It's another good one.
“You can see it when they play,“ said LSU Head Coach Les Miles. “They play with great technique. They’re very disciplined and never out of place. It’s a very, very capable defense.”
And so the challenge awaits for an LSU offense hyped all summer as the difference between coming up short in the BCS National Championship Game and finishing the job. Since then, inconsistencies in the redzone, turnovers and missed opportunities have positioned the Tigers with a loss and around the middle of the conference total offense.
Junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger spent the open week pouring over film of the Alabama defense.
“It’s definitely frustrating,” Mettenberger said. “You look throughout (Alabama Head) Coach (Nick) Saban’s career, and he’s always had a solid defense. Hopefully they can make some mistakes to help us out.” Read more...

Opportunity.
In a word, that sums up Zach Mettenberger’s decision to enroll at LSU prior to last season.
The opportunity to start at the D-I level.
The opportunity to make a name for himself at a top-tier program.
And this week, the opportunity to beat Alabama.
“The opportunity’s going to be there for me and the receivers to make a big play and we’re going to have to execute and capitalize on those plays when they present themselves,” he said.
So far Mettenberger hasn’t been able to take full advantage of his opportunities in TigerTown, whether his doing or that of others.
Last season, he wasn’t given the opportunity as he watched his Tigers fall to Alabama the last time the two squads played.
“I would have loved to play in that game last year. I would have loved to have been the starting quarterback all year, but we had two very good, capable quarterbacks who led our team last year,” said the signal caller, knowing the right answer to give. “The opportunity just wasn’t there for me to play last year, and I guess this will be my chance to measure myself against a top caliber defense like Alabama.”
But he has received ample opportunity in 2012. Versus defenses not up to Alabama’s caliber, he hasn’t lived up his lofty expectations with just seven touchdowns and two 200-yard passing games through his first eight career D-I starts.
But all that can change and all of his early struggles will be forgiven with a winning performance Saturday Night in Death Valley. Let’s face it. This is the game he was recruited to win. But he knows it won’t be easy versus the team that’s forced the third most turnovers in college football.
“Not making mistakes could be huge,” said the junior signal caller. “You watch them, they capitalize on all the mistakes that other teams that made against them. That’s something that myself and other guys that touch the ball can’t turn it over for sure in this game.” Read more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=229102
