The SEC is back in the BCS title picture
November, 18, 2012
By
Edward Aschoff | ESPN.comIt only took a week for the college football world to take a step out of
the SEC's shadow. For seven long days, the country soaked up the
feeling of finally being able to look down on the SEC.
That week better have been a real blast because it took just one night for the SEC to crawl right back into the national title picture.
With Kansas State and Oregon both going down on Saturday, Alabama is right back in the running for the BCS title game, as the Crimson Tide shot up to No. 2 in the BCS standings after drubbing Western Carolina 49-0. If Alabama wins out, it is headed to Miami for the Discover BCS National Championship Game.
Alabama now has to beat an overmatched Auburn team at home this coming weekend and then get past Georgia in the SEC championship game. Georgia is now No. 3 in the BCS standings and is playing its best ball of the season.
If Alabama and Georgia both win this upcoming weekend, the SEC championship becomes a semifinal for the national championship.
But it doesn't just stop there for the SEC.
With No. 1 and No. 2 losing, there's a chance that the SEC could party like it's 2011 and send two teams back to the national championship. It's a long shot, but it's possible with some help. Read more...http://espn.go.com/ blog/sec/post/_/id/56040/the- sec-is-back-in-the-bcs-hunt

ha ha Notre Dame # 1. Alabama # 2. Ha ha ha better to sometime let well
enough alone. Now the mighty fighting Irish will need to play the
Alabama crimson tide for the crystal ball. Ha ha ha lol lol lol...It's a
great life!
I
just wanted to congratulate the SEC on fighting thier way back into the
NCG. We (entire world) were really worried that an SEC team wouldnt be
in the NCG, but were pleasantly suprised this morning by all the
changes, and delighted at the fact that there is a chance at an all SEC
NCG. This would be ofcourse perfect for the whole of College Football,
and a healthy and correct ending to a lopsided season of SEC domination.
I think they should just go ahead and rank the first 10 in the
preseason p...more
USCe
will drop Clemson like the joke that they are. GT will go down hard to
Georgia, with turf stuck in their helmets and tears in their little
ballerina conference eyes. FSU might beat Florida but don't bet on it.
SEC will roll on for awhile. May as well find some other form of
entertainment if it bothers you all so much.

LSU makes claim for best football program of 21st Century

By JIM ENGSTER
Tiger Rag Featured Columnist
As LSU adds another massive chunk of concrete and steel on the South side of mammoth Tiger Stadium, the end of the Twentieth Century seems a distant memory. But in the years before luxury suites, the Tigers logged eight losing seasons in eleven years. The 1989-99 period of discontent included three firings of head coaches in Mike Archer (1990), Curley Hallman (1994) and Gerry DiNardo (1999) with Athletic Director Joe Dean dropping the hammer each time.
Thirteen Novembers ago, Dean embarked on a national tour to secure a game changing coach at Death Valley. He located a journeyman, who arrived in TigerTown after five up and down years at Michigan State where he was 33-24-1. The most remarkable aspect to the hiring of 48-year-old Nick Saban was the amount that LSU coughed up to get him – $6 million for five years – chump change by today’s standards for coaching compensation but off the chart for the time.
Saban produced eight wins in his first season, and LSU has won that many games or more for 13 consecutive seasons—a record of achievement equaled only by Boise State.
Les Miles has surpassed Bernie Moore for runner-up status on the LSU coaching victory list with 84 triumphs in less than seven seasons. With 132 victories in the 21st Century, LSU is seven wins ahead of any competitor in the most rugged conference in the country.
If there is any doubt about the Golden Age of LSU football living in the present, a comparison with SEC rivals solidifies the dominance of the Miles/Saban Era.

LSU head coach to address media for final time in 2012 regular season at approx. 12:30 p.m.

By CODY WORSHAM
Tiger Rag Editor
Here we are.
After 11 games in 12 weeks, LSU has arrived at its final week of regular season prep, as the Tigers get ready to take on Arkansas on Friday in Fayetteville.
That means for the last time in the regular season, LSU head coach Les Miles will address the media at his weekly luncheon.
Miles will hope to do another next week ahead of the SEC Championship Game, but he’ll need some help to get there. The Tigers need to win Friday at Arkansas, while getting wins from Auburn over Alabama and Texas A&M over Missouri to force a three-way tie atop the SEC West. In the unlikely case all that happens, LSU would win that tie and advance to play Georgia in the conference title game Dec. 1.
But Miles, as usual, will likely spend the day focusing on what he can control. As evidenced by his outrageous press conference after the Ole Miss game, Miles clearly enjoys coaching this team for its own sake, regardless of where it will fall come bowl season.
Expect Miles to field a few questions about his performance in that press conference Saturday, but don’t expect him to match it. Miles is much more business-like during the week than he is on the weekends, and when the suit is on, The Hatter is usually more serious.
Then again, if Saturday night proved anything, it’s that you can never guess what Miles will do next. Stay tuned for updates.

Week 13 in the SEC
November, 19, 2012
By
Edward Aschoff | ESPN.com
Here's a quick primer for the final week of the regular season in the SEC:
Nov. 23
No. 7 LSU (9-2, 5-2 SEC) at Arkansas (4-7, 2-5 SEC), 2:30 p.m. ET, CBS: This game doesn't have the same excitement it had last year, but a win for the Tigers and they could be heading to a BCS bowl game. Arkansas is officially out of the bowl race, but putting a major dent in LSU's season would be a great way to end such a bad year for the Hogs. LSU's offense has been rolling lately, while Arkansas' defense continues to struggle, so that's not good news for the Hogs.
Nov. 24
Georgia Tech (6-5) at No. 3 Georgia (10-1, 7-1 SEC), noon ET, ESPN: The Bulldogs are already heading to Atlanta, but if they want a real shot at a national championship berth, they have to get past rival Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets have a serious triple-option attack, but Georgia passed that same test against Georgia Southern last week. That preview should have the Bulldogs fully prepared for the weekend, but they can't get caught looking ahead to Atlanta.
Kentucky (2-9, 0-7 SEC) at Tennessee (4-7, 0-7 SEC), 12:21 p.m. ET, SEC Network: Neither team will have the same head coach when next season arrives, but the Wildcats will at least have Joker Phillips roaming its sideline in his final game. Derek Dooley is out and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will serve as the Vols' interim coach. It's been a very long season for both teams. The Wildcats were crushed by the injury bug, while Tennessee's defense was gashed all season and the offense was too inconsistent at times. The Wildcats won last year's meeting and you have to wonder if the Vols will be mentally fit for Saturday's game.
Auburn (3-8, 0-7 SEC) at No. 2 Alabama (10-1, 6-1 SEC), 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS: Alabama is right back in the national championship spotlight, while the Tigers are limping into the final week of what has been a very rough season. Auburn coach Gene Chizik's future on the Plains is in question, but a historic upset will help some of those gloomy attitudes around Auburn's campus. But it's going to take every thing the Tigers have -- and much, much more -- to stop Alabama. The Crimson Tide have multiple championships on their mind and don't have time to stumble against an overmatched Auburn team.
Vanderbilt (7-4, 5-3 SEC) at Wake Forest (5-6), 3:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU: James Franklin has the Commodores going for their sixth straight win and their first eight-win season since 1982. Wake Forest is scratching and clawing for that sixth win that will make this team bowl eligible. The Demon Deacons have lost two straight in blowout fashion, while the Commodores enter with a ton of momentum on their side, especially after throttling rival Tennessee over the weekend.
No. 4 Florida (10-1, 7-1 SEC) at No. 10 Florida State (10-1), 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC: Florida's offense has struggled mightily lately and had some real issues against inferior opponents in the past two weeks. Now, the Gators take on the nation's No. 1 statistical defense. The Seminoles are giving up just 13 points and 236 yards per game, while Florida has stumbled along with the ball in its hands as of late. Quarterback Jeff Driskel remains a question mark for Saturday, which could limit the offense even more. A win for the Gators, and they are heading to a BCS bowl.
Mississippi State (8-3, 4-3 SEC) at Ole Miss (5-6, 2-5 SEC), 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU: The Egg Bowl actually has a lot on the line again. The Rebels need one more win to become bowl eligible, while the Bulldogs are looking to get closer to a 10-win season, something that hasn't happened for Mississippi State since 1999. The Bulldogs are coming off of their most complete game of the season, with their 45-14 drubbing of Arkansas, while Ole Miss has lost three straight games.
Missouri (5-6, 2-5 SEC) at No. 9 Texas A&M (9-2, 5-2 SEC), 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2: The Aggies haven't slowed down this season, while the Tigers are yet again very, very banged up. Texas A&M is in the hunt for a BCS bowl game, while Missouri needs one more win to become bowl eligible. The Tigers have made seven straight bowl games, but after a stunning, last-minute loss to Syracuse, that streak is in danger. Mizzou has won three straight against A&M, but these are a very different bunch of Aggies.
No. 12 South Carolina (9-2, 6-2 SEC) at No. 11 Clemson (10-1), 7 p.m. ET, ESPN: This rivalry has really spiced up with the addition of Steve Spurrier and Dabo Swinney. Both should have some classic barbs to throw at each other in the coming days. Even with Marcus Lattimore out of the lineup, the Gamecocks have actually been pretty balanced on offense. The good news for South Carolina is that Clemson's defense is giving up more than 400 yards a game and surrendered 48 points to NC State over the weekend.
