I'm telling you Tommy I almost died...

The night was heavy as the rain was hot because Billy Cannon just ran a punt return back for 89 glorious yards that put the strong Ole Miss Rebel's behind on the score board 7-3 with now only minutes left in the game between two undefeated untied great college football team. Grandmothers, and Grandfather, students and children alike were jumping on each other in excitement, and anticipation.

The thrill of victory and glory from winning filled their emotions with also knowing that all could be lost if Ole Miss who has brawl their way all the way down to LSU 10 yard line still had a good chance to win. Three attempts moved that wet football down to LSU one yard line, with one more down to play. Everything was going to ride on the next Ole Miss attempt to score.

The ball was snapped and Jake Gibbs the Ole Miss QB keep the ball trying to run to Rebel glory, when first Warren Rabb tackled him, and also Billy Cannon, that finished him off - stopping him from going not even a yard. LSU was the National Champions of college football in1958.

My Brother told me that he just about died on that last play that hot light raining Halloween night LSU Tiger Stadium Baton Rouge, La.1959.
