The
CIA's 400 page torture report comes out tomorrow. To my libertarian
friends, I know we already agree on this so I don't really need to
address you. What I'll say to my other friends is this:
Ronald Reagan vehemently opposed torture. In 1988 he signed United Nations Convention Against Torture saying, it “will clearly express United States opposition to torture, an abhorrent practice unfortunately still prevalent in the world today.” He also supported the prosecution and extradition of CIA agents and individuals accused of acts of torture.

If you believe in just rule of law, logic would only dictate that the
constitution should not, in any way, allow for torture and there should
be swift prosecution of individuals in any government agency that use
torture. It's easy to get emotional and not think clearly on issues of
terrorism and foreign policy but don't ever let your hatred of the evils
committed by despicable extremists cloud your reason.
Torture is an abhorrent practice which as we've seen, creates blowback. If we're going to have a constitutional government it has to be just. The blowback from this situation will not be good. But instead of opposing the release of the report and the exposure of horrible CIA tactics we should be opposing the tactics that create blowback to begin with.
Think with your head, not your hate.

- Thomas Williams: No! If I have a terrorist who can tell me about another attack on America by his network of terrorist, I am going to skin that SOB and keep him alive until he tells me what I need to know. I know the team that I am fighting for in real life in trying to survive a terror attack. Because I play to win, and make the other side die for their bull talk instead. I would not make public what my CIA agents did in getting the information we need to stop other terror attacks. Because life can only be lived if you stay alive and make your enemies die.

- Bill Rosich: Torture is something (nearly) every government denounces yet every government engages in. To think otherwise is just naïve.
- Mandy Aaron Dysart: I agree with your opposition to the tactics, but that does not mean the release of the report is justified....the men/women serving overseas will be put at risk. There just isn't a need for this to come out. Period.
