Two websites covering Michigan athletics reported Tuesday that the school has reached out to Les Miles’ agent to gauge the LSU coach’s interest in the vacant head coaching position at his alma mater.
Scout.com site GoBlueWolverine and 24/7 Sports site Wolverines247 both quoted unnamed sources that “confirmed” the contact.
Miles’ long-time agent is George Bass of Dallas. Bass did not immediately respond to a message.
LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said as of Tuesday night he had not been contacted by anyone regarding Miles.
However, Alleva said last week that it is no longer common for schools to ask permission to talk to a coach about job openings, but that they typically work through their agents instead.

Another report Tuesday said Michigan had sent out feelers to Duke coach David Cutcliffe.
The website FootballScoop.com quoted unnamed sources which said they do not expect either Miles or Cutcliffe to have significant talks with Michigan.
Miles played offensive guard for the Wolverines from 1974-75 under legendary coach Bo Schembechler. Miles served as an assistant coach at Michigan from 1980-81 and 1987-94.
His teammate, fellow offensive lineman Jim Hackett, is Michigan’s interim athletic director and is conducting the search.
Miles is 103-28 in 10 seasons at LSU. His name was also linked to Michigan’s past two job openings in 2007 and 2010. He is believed to have been offered the job in 2010.
Miles is under contract through 2019 and makes $4.3 million a year. LSU’s assistants are among the highest-paid in the nation, making a total of $5.32 million.
Michigan paid its previous coach, Brady Hoke, $2.8 million a year. Its assistant coaches made a combined $3.07 million.

Les Miles would be crazy not to take the coaching Job with Michigan. Because that would be an easier college football schedule than the meat grinder LSU plays. And that should be right down the ally of a good recruiter so what is he waiting for?

Les Miles is an interesting & unique personality. He may not individually be the best coach, but he knows how to surround himself with good, smart people, one of the signs of a good leader/CEO. He fits in with the LSU mistique -- creates national discussion for his actions, results, comments & interaction with the Louisiana community. One of his shortcomings, as I see things is his "refusal" to use more players in games. Why recruit such great talent and keep them on the bench? This season, he has 2 pretty good QBs. When one is faltering, use the other QB. That way, experience is gained, preparation for next year takes place, players do not get frustrated just keeping the bench warm, etc. But, Les Miles has been, & continues to be, a good match for LSU, not just LSU football, but the school as a whole. (I'm a proud 1962 LSU grad & an avid proponent for the school although living in Georgia).

If he chooses to stay, fine we re tied to this guy financially for sure two more years, but do not give him one dime more. He hasn't earned it the last two seasons. He hints he might leave, wish him well, and hand him snow shoes.

Gerry DiNardo days were not that bad, he got LSU back to bowls. I personally hope Coach Miles stays as the talent is looking good. Very young team this year.

Where's the response? I don't see any direct quotes. Advocate is a joke.

He is a top coach, his record speaks to that. He does needs to improve on his quarterback philosophy. I hope he stays: the memory of Curley Hallman and Gerry Dinardo remind me of how it could be again!

I think we are better off with Les, than without.
Especially considering the talent we have, and the next two years look very very bright.
Not sure now is the best time to look for a new coach at LSU

He will only get another raise out of it. They will not pay him what he is making here. He has to good of a deal to leave LSU. Ticket prices are going to go up again as with his pay increase, so will the pay of everyone else in the athletic dept. It doesn't matter if you like him or not, it is a business decision. I doubt he could be successful up there as they don't schedule so many weak teams as LSU.
