Thomas Williams:
LSU just might have a good defensive coordinator in Clancy Pendergast and his Pro work with the football professionals that he worked around, and his experience in college. He was picked to apply his skills at USC so someone with coaching football knowledge thinks that he can do what we need him to do. To start putting the clamps on a wide open spread offense that seems to be flourishing all over college football. Anyway he did not say yes yet, but if he does let’s give him a chance to help LSU football team out of a tight circumstance with recruiting and the rest Geaux Tigers!!!

John Chavis is a great defensive strategist credited with the INVENTION  of the "zone blitz".
He is the epitomy of tough and no-nonsense.
John Chavis knows the intimate details of the tendencies of every SEC West team we play.
Anyone that says we are going to hire somebody off the PAC-12 unemployment line and he is the equal of Chavis is a complete fool.

@WildCajun well if Chavis was as good as you state above; why did he bail out the team the last game and make LSU look like a fool and then act the fool to the cameras.ND didn't throw anything new at LSU; Chavis knew he was leaving and decided to snub his nose at the root of HIS problem with LSU..

@dapkat @WildCajun: Chavis and then Florida DC Bob Stoops are credited with bringing the freaking "zone blitz" to CFB.
Chavis ability as a Coach and football strategist don't have anything to do with his contract problems and finding somebody to pay what he believes he is worth.  Leaving a Coaching job is never a pretty process.

@dapkat @WildCajun: We lost to ND due to offensive coordinator malpractice.  When we were down on their goal line why wasn't LF carrying the rock 4 times in a row?
No we throw incomplete and end up with a freakin field goal holder trying to run the ball in.  That is why we lost.
Don't judge Chavis for a subpar game in his last game at LSU.

Hope Clancy Pendergast gets the LSU DC job...no more 3rd and Chavis chokes at the end of football games on defense and time after time after time 3rd and long conversions like in the ND game.

Wildcajun would like to ADMIT what IT knows about football would fit in a thimble with room to still put your thumb in.  Just the typical anti-LSU troll who has NOTHING to offer this LSU board other than utter stupidity and flaming of LSU football.  Go stand in the middle of a busy street, TROLL!

Poor wildcajun is such a complete loser, IT actually thinks that getting 3 LBers out of the last 13 that have ANY chance of every contributing is the sign of a good LBer coach.  The guy is pathetic as a talent evaluator at HIS position that he supposedly coaches and once again is called "3rd and Chavis" for a reason.  He is a passive, bend but not break guy but broke again SEC opponents this year. Glad to see him hit the bricks.  he is over the hill...the game has passed "the Chief" by!

Pull your head out of the sand.  Letting Chavis get away to an SEC West competitior of all places was a dumbass move of epic proportions.  If you can't take a dose of reality you shouldn't read newspapers.

@WildCajun Daylon Mack can't decide where he wants to go and play..First A&M then TCU and then LSU was #1 now A&M again. Wonder if he will decide to block the man to the left of the 1 gap hole or pull and go up the 4 hole. Let him go I say....

If  Pendergast is so great why doesn't he have a job?
Chavis >>>>>  Pendergast
Daylon Mack just cancelled his LSU OV and scheduled one to A&M.  Wonder why?
This fiasco is gonna bite us in the butt big time.

@WildCajun First, he lost his job at USC when Sarkasian cleaned house after Kiffin was fired.  BTW, if Kiffin is so great, why was HE fired?  Daylon Mack was never seriously considering LSU.  Daylon Mack is the typical troll recruit...can't trust 1 word the guy says.  BTW, if Chavis was supposedly so critical for Mack why hadn't he committed to LSU or made an official visit during the year.  It is obvious you know squat about football and recruiting.  Just crawl back under your rock and let the knowledgeable people talk about this issue.  You are a damn fool!

@LSU fan @WildCajun Chavis is one of the top 5 DC's in CFB and has a helluva lot of credibility with recruits.  I was following SEC football when you were crapping in diapers. If you think Clancy Pendergast is in the same zip code as John Chavis as a Coach, you don't know anything about football.

@WildCajun Guy, Chavis is NOT one of the top 5 DC in the last few minutes of a game or on 3rd and long.  So, the bottom line is you have proven yet again, you know squat about football or rating coaches.  Go back to the Toolame board or the ragged cajun one.

@katmandu I agree. I understand the viewpoint of the booth, but put an assistant up there to help with views of plays. The DC really NEEDS to be on the field. He can interact with players and correct things in person as needed.

Hey guys I am not very proficient at this internet thing.....I can't download or cite sites or none of that stuff all of you guys know how to do. But I typed Pendergast's name and googled up several articles on him, especially one by fox sports done a few weeks ago citing his remarkable performance at his last several jobs and wondering why in the world he was unemployed. He certainly has been at the top of his game at his last few DC jobs.
So maybe he is hard to work with or has some dreaded disease because from what I read he is like this great defensive mind. I wish some of you would go read the article and share your thoughts.

@katmandu
Pendergast, 47, was USC's defensive coordinator in 2013 but was not retained by new coach Steve Sarkisian for the 2014 season despite the Trojans ranking No. 1 in the Pac-12 in passing defense and No. 2 in rushing defense. Pendergast spent this season out of coaching.Sarkisian brought almost his entire staff with him for the 2014 season.
His background primarily is in the NFL, having served as defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals from 2004-08, coaching in Super Bowl XLIII, and with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009. He's also held duties as a position coach with the Cleveland Browns (linebackers, 2003) and Dallas Cowboys (secondary, 1996-2002). In the college ranks, Pendergast spent 2010-12 as Cal's defensive coordinator.

@katmandu @dapkat Clancy Pendergast spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator at Cal from 2010-12. The Golden Bears' led the Pac-12 in total defense and pass defense during each of its first two campaigns under his leadership utilizing a balanced attack with creative schemes to create pressure. His defenses at Cal also benefited from his NFL experience that included serving as defensive coordinator for an Arizona Cardinals team in 2008 that reached Super Bowl XLIII. In his first two seasons at Cal, Pendergast's defense produced nine NFL players with more anticipated from the 2012 team when the NFL holds its annual draft in April of 2013 and subsequent free agent signings.
