The thing that excites most Tiger Fans, including myself, about the hires is the reputation Coaches Steele and Orgeron have as being top-notch recruiters, and the two wasted no time in living up to that reputation yesterday. Early yesterday morning, Steele and “Bébé” (a.k.a. “Coach O”) were at Edgewood Academy in Elmore, Alabama, to recruit one of the most interesting prospects in the land – 6-foot-8, 250-pound Nigerian-born defensive end, Prince Tega Wanogho Jr. What makes Wanogho so interesting is not only his regal sounding name and his impressive size, but the fact that he has only played football for four months and is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the top strong-side defensive end prospects in the country. Two months ago, Wanogho’s recruitment took flight when his highlight video began circulating among recruiting circles, and then things really escalated earlier this week when he was reclassified from 2016 to 2015. Although Wanogho was not planning on taking any official visits this weekend, the meeting with coaches Steele and Orgeron went so well that he has decided to visit LSU this weekend. With LSU’s Danielle Hunter having declared for the NFL draft, defensive end is a huge priority for LSU in this recruiting class, and landing Wanogho would be a huge coup for LSU’s new dynamic recruiting duo.........Later in the day, Orgeron and Steele paid a visit to another elite defensive end prospect, CeCe Jefferson of Glen St. Mary, FL. Jefferson’s leaders are believed to be Ole Miss and Florida, and as of now I have not heard how the visit went, but the good news is that LSU will get Jefferson’s last visit before Signing Day on January 30th.
Besides defensive end, the other big position of need for the Tigers is linebacker, and LSU spent much of the day yesterday visiting with a great one in Leo Lewis of Brookhaven, Mississippi. From what I’ve heard, Coach Les Miles arrived at Brookhaven High early in the morning and Coach Steele was on the docket to visit him later in the evening. What’s particularly interesting is that Lewis was committed to Alabama at one time and Steele was going to be his position coach. According to reports, the two have a good relationship and having Steele at LSU now only helps the Tigers’ chances.
