ELECTION 2016

What Trump has wrought

Pat Buchanan: Candidate unleashed 'the mightiest force of the 21st century: nationalism'

Patrick J. Buchanan

As Wisconsinites head for the polls, our Beltway elites are almost giddy. For they foresee a Badger State bashing for Donald Trump, breaking his momentum toward the Republican nomination.

Should The Donald fall short of the delegates needed to win on the first ballot, 1,237, there is growing certitude that he will be stopped. First by Ted Cruz; then, perhaps, by someone acceptable to the establishment, which always likes to have two of its own in the race.

But this city of self-delusion should realize there is no going back for America. For, whatever his stumbles of the last two weeks, Trump has helped to unleash the mightiest force of the 21st century: nationalism.

Transnationalism and globalism are moribund.

First among the issues on which Trump has triumphed – “We will build the wall – and Mexico will pay for it!” – is border security.

Nationalism has an edge to it by this country’s media that you and I feel like your neighborhood is much better than other countries neighborhood in a self-righteous way.
In a subtle way the media is saying that our expression of nationalism is not good and the media are saying that Donald Trump is making ourselves better than the other countries because we are swell heads. And when the media want to talk about nationalism positively, the media says patriotism, and when the media want to be negative the media says nationalist.
The media is not using the word nationalist that also means patriotic like you feel prideful of your country, when the media is talking about Donald Trump. The media just does that when they are talking about Hillary Clinton.
So contrary to how the media is parsing these words, and meaning, to us on TV I have become very sick and tired of explaining to the media that we the American people see their lowdown hand and glove game. And we understand very well how the Washington DC Clan Clubs keep clubbing you and me over the head with the medias obvious conflict with the truth about us the Donald Trump supporters in a very hypocritical political way.
Because it is all not true in the way that we are feeling about our countryman, and country, and that we just want our manufacturing back.  And that we are very prideful of our country and also feel patriotic in a normal good nationalist way. So that is one of the reasons a lot of the American people are connecting with what Donald Trump is saying to us, whether the media like it or not.
