The original caption in 1968 marvels: "This is one of six automated checkout counters installed at the A&P Store at 2624 Jefferson Highway. The grocery cart is docked next to the counter and the contents automatically removed under controls handled by the checker.''

Employees work to get the former A&P grocery store at 701 Royal St. changed over to the new Rouses Supermarket at the same location Oct. 17, 2007 in time for its opening. Rouses had acquired most of the Save A Center stores in the New Orleans area including the small neighborhood A&P.

Accardo's new supermarket at 3000 Elysian Fields in 1950. The store was the second one in the city for Frank Accardo. It had a full line of groceries and meats, plus a liquor department and a soda fountain.

Opening day for the third Canal Villere Super Mart in the New Orleans area was June 2, 1966. The new outlet was located in the Airline Park Shopping Center.
