Susan with her first child, Tom.

Let me tell you about my favorite Christmas song: Christmas became magic for me, living through the grips of poverty as a young boy, seeing my wonderful and kind Mothe feeding us with whatever she could put together from her nickel and dimes in the 1940s New Orleans Grocery store.
Later on, as a nine-year-old, I visited our more well-off relatives celebrating the 1949 Christmas holiday. My Father and Mother saved enough money to surprise me with a new Blue Schwinn bicycle. I couldn't ride yet but felt thrilled nonetheless because I knew where that present came from the heart of my loving parents.
Growing up as a young teen, I received a pack of Luck Strikes cigarettes from my girlfriend, Betty, an attractive but dirt-poor young lady, and only enough money for a 50-cent gift. Her affection and Christmas present touched me deeply, and how those affections stayed with me until now speaking to you.
Then lady luck shined on me for 30 years after falling in love with my Wife, Sue, in 1972 and raising three children through the worst and best time of our life until she passed away in 2002.
So the magic of Christmas cheer runs deep inside me like you, knowing we all seem to understand what matters that helps keep us brave and loving truth at Christmas time as long as we breathe.
Susan will never spend Christmas with her husband and children again. So, until the time comes when we can cross over to where she is, I will be myself with her memory with me telling you. That, once upon a time, Tommy and Sue loved each other through Christmas in years gone by just like you do today. Because Susan's kiss is still on my lips and her affection stays with me inside my heart.
