Home Sweet Home

It's the last thing the LSU players see before they leave the locker room and spill out onto one of the most famous playing fields in the country.
Mounted at the top of the double doors is a piece of the crossbar from the goal posts that stood in Tiger Stadium from 1955-84. Painted onto that crossbar in purple and gold letters is a very fitting message: Win!
Over the years, Tiger Stadium has proven to be one of the most decided home-field advantages in all of college football, especially at night. Since 1960, the Tigers are 221-60-4 (.782) under the lights at Tiger Stadium, which is truly a spectacle, along with the entire game-day experience when LSU plays a home game. -- Chris Low See and read more...http://espn.go.com/ncf/feature/video/_/page/signs/num/18

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

Good morning, Tiger Fans.
The LSU football team took to the field yesterday for the first day of preseason practice, and I was happy to attend the morning session and see the veteran players in action. The first thing that caught my eye when I entered the practice field and walked by the running backs was that Terrance Magee and Jeremy Hill were not practicing with the veterans, meaning they would be joining the group of “newcomers and select veterans” in the afternoon session. This makes sense as LSU didn’t welcome any true freshmen running backs to the team Wednesday, and Hill (an early enrollee) was the only one signed in last year’s class. 2012 College Football Awards: Sack Masters

History, and most every rational brain in sports, indicates that the quarterback position is easily the most important and valuable on any football roster. In order to protect the most valued member of the team, the NFL has proven that the left tackle is the second most important position on the field.

Therefore, any player who can neutralize and defeat said bookend tackle immediately becomes the third most important player, correct? Just ask the New England Patriots and Tom Brady about whether or not a truly elite defensive line can stop a historic passing attack? In 2007 or 2011?

For the first time since 1959, LSU will open a football season ranked No. 1 in the nation as the Tigers have been placed atop the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, the organization announced on Thursday.
LSU returns 15 starters from last year’s team that captured the Southeastern Conference title and went 13-0 during the regular season before falling in the BCS National Championship Game. LSU spent 11 straight weeks ranked No. 1 in the nation a year ago.
