Thursday Varsity practice recap
By RICHARD FISCHER
Tiger Rag Assistant Editor
The Tiger vets took the field to begin Fall Camp Thursday morning, and the 2012 season is officially underway. The Tigers were in helmets and shorts with no shoulder pads.
Ronnie Feist, Lamar Louis, Deion Jones and Jalen Mills were the only defensive true freshmen to participate in the morning session. That means we’ll have to wait on seeing other highly-touted guys like Kwon Alexander, Lorenzo Phillips, Danielle Hunter, Derrick Raymond, Jerquinick Sandolph and Dwayne Thomas this afternoon. I don’t think there’s much to read into which freshmen participated this morning. Spots will be earned once the pads come on in fall camp. They just needed to fill out the second teams for the vets practice. Additionally, Jordan Allen wasn’t one of the six DEs out there this morning (Montgomery, Mingo, Edwards, Aghayere, Rasco, Maclin), and he will practice this afternoon. Competition is a funny thing.
In the world of college football, it is at once coveted and occasionally avoided by players who were all-everything prospects on the high school level.
Some spend hours looking over depth charts to gauge prospects of coming in and playing right away while others embrace what projects as a full house at their position, expecting to beat out the best of the best. Read more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=213822

T’was a month before football, and all through the South,
Rabid fans everywhere were running their mouth.
The schedules were set for the season with care,
In hopes that college playoffs soon would be there.
The fans were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of championships danced in their heads.
Saban with a new trophy, wish I had one too!
We’re patiently waiting for the season to ensue…
When out on the field there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see the Mad Hatter.
Away to Media Days we flew like a flash,
Reminiscing how Petrino left with a crash.
Highlight of the offseason, which passes so slow.
At least now there’s only a month left to go!
When what to my wondering eyes it appears,
But two new teams in a conference of peers!
With the old Mike Slive, so lively and quick,
We know this year, he’s a damn good commish.
More rapid than others his conference they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
“Now Wildcats! Now Rebels! Now Gamecocks and Gators!
On Mizzou, On TAMU! Don’t listen to haters!
To the top of the world, we’re having a ball!
S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C to all!”
As the media tweeted and lifted hands to the sky,
Vandy’s coach stepped up, looking so fly.
Shouts from the podium, “Anchor Down” he spew,
Steve Spurrier was laughing, Will Muschamp was too.
Mark Richt, in a twinkling, I heard he dismissed,
The next Herschel Walker from Georgia’s big list.
As I drew my head, and was turning around,
Down the hall Hugh Freeze came with a bound.
He had seen the billboards, but was slightly confused,
It was Mullen’s state, Houston Nutt was abused.
At least things were different for those on the Plains,
Chizik won it all aboard the Cam Newton train!
Down on the Bayou, there’s an Aussie that punts,
And a Honey Badger who takes what he wants!
The Aggies and Mizzou are new to the scene,
They’ll be winning, but more like Charlie Sheen.
In Fayettenam, the Hogs are waiting their turn,
To see which DB’s Tyler Wilson will burn.
Derek and Joker can enjoy the hot seat,
How many teams do you think they will beat?
Drama last year was LSU fighting the bar,
Bray started us early throwing bottles at a car.
That’s life in this conference, I readily admit,
Get ‘em on the field, and let’s see these boys hit!
National Championships are easier than the SEC,
If you don’t believe, you can just ask Steve.
So now we sit and wait for the veterans to report,
And hope they are ready to hold down the fort.
Will the streak of six straight be ending this year?
Hell no! Start the tailgate and be ready to cheer!
Winning every championship is what it’s all about,
Here’s wishing every Saturday was a Saturday Down South.

This all great and we are all excited about the team our Tigers can put on the field to play. I have a question from everyone and thier expections with this team. When I played football they had step by step achievements that needed to be done prior to stepping out on the field of play. The number 1 thing was you didn’t talk about a championship in anyway.
You would, kind of let your wins and on the field play talk for itself right. It would be like oh yeah maybe the way Nick Saban and Alabama do things!
Everyone is biulding them up so big and bad that If they do not win the National Championship is this season a failure?

Well I guess the best way to explain today’s LSU college football player from yesterday’s LSU college football player. Is to point out that it looks like, and sounds like that their fears are not what your fears were when you played college football. What I saw of this fighting tigers football team spirit last year was very impressive. But because of an unwanted rematch, that made the BCS game harder to get fired up over, and a lack of efficient quarterback play. Was in reality the only thing that stopped them in the last football game against Alabama. Not because of a lack of fight. But instead a bad break playing a Alabama defense that had good enough talent to make the LSU’s offense one handed. Stopping the LSU running game.
This year, I think they will come out fighting with both hands. And whatever is talked about in the media, tweets, ect, will mean little or next to nothing. This LSU football team plays football like they are not really fearful of anyone.
I think with a little luck, they can indeed go all the way to Miami.
