College Football's Top Defensive Linemen for 2012

Winning the battle in the trenches is crucial to claiming college football's national championship. The SEC has claimed six consecutive national titles, so it should come as no surprise this conference has some of the top defensive linemen. South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney is in for a monster sophomore season, while LSU's Sam Montgomery will make a run at first-team All-American honors. The SEC is represented in the defensive tackles, as four of the top 10 reside from the conference.
When compiling the rankings, Athlon considered how each player will perform in 2012, some past performance, personnel losses around the quarterback, conference difficulty and pro potential. Read the list... http://www.athlonsports.com/college-football/college-footballs-top-defensive-linemen-2012

10 First-Year Starting QBs Who Could Win College Football's National Title

When predicting college football’s national champion, experience at quarterback is usually one of the most important factors to consider. However, is it time to reconsider how important experience is under center? Three of the last four teams to play in the title game had a first-year starter at quarterback. Alabama’s Greg McElroy took home the title in 2009, while Auburn’s Cam Newton won the Heisman and national championship in 2011.
Since the BCS was created in 1998, nine quarterbacks have played for the national title in their first season:
1998: Tee Martin, Tennessee - W
1999:
Michael Vick, Virginia Tech - L
2002:
Craig Krenzel, Ohio State - W
2007:
Matt Flynn, LSU - W; Todd Boeckman, Ohio State
2009:
Greg McElroy, Alabama - W
2010:
Cam Newton, Auburn - W; Darron Thomas, Oregon
2011:
AJ McCarron, Alabama – W

LSU’s Les Miles turns the page after falling just short of BCS title

Dave Martin/AP - “I think it’s going to be fun,” LSU Coach Les Miles said of this year’s team. “Obviously, I think we’ll throw the football better, we’ll throw it more often, we’ll be more efficient.”

BATON ROUGE — Before he had annointed a new quarterback and long before he said goodbye to his most talented player, Les Miles returned to his office the day after the BCS title game in January and popped in a DVD. He planned to watch the game once. But only once.
“I didn’t need to see it any more,” Miles said. Read more...http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/lsus-les-miles-turns-the-page-after-falling-just-short-of-bcs-title/2012/08/26/583dad46-e8aa-11e1-9739-eef99c5fb285_story.html

The University is remaining open as of Sunday night while all eyes are on Tropical Storm Isaac.

University, city and state officials are bracing for what could be Louisiana’s first hurricane of the season, as the storm grows stronger and draws nearer to the state.

Early projections saw the storm making landfall close to the Gulf Coast border of Mississippi and Alabama, but throughout Sunday, the projections slowly moved westward, with the storm center falling just east of New Orleans.

Isaac has weakened but is expected to strengthen upon traveling through the Gulf of Mexico’s warm waters with about an 80 percent chance of evolving into a hurricane. Projections had the storm entering the Gulf early this morning.

This is bigger.

This is either the moment when one of college football’s leaders and best rises up to show that it’s ready to play the role of superpower again, or it will be a chance for the defending national champion to flex its muscle and prove to the world that it’s an SEC world with everyone else simply playing for fun? Quietly Confident, Michigan’s Leader Has Promise to Keep

By TIM ROHAN
Published: August 27, 2012
ANN ARBOR, Mich. —  Timothy Robinson sat on his grandmother’s couch, not looking well. Timothy, 11, was home from school with a stomachache, though it had always been difficult to tell if he was hurting. He was tough, and Denard — the shorter, younger brother — thought the world of him for that.

Denard could tell now, though, and when Timothy’s stomachache worsened, he was taken to a hospital. He died there that night. Denard, then 10, was told Timothy had internal bleeding. Timothy had, perhaps, fallen off his bike. Denard could not recall any other accident. But from then on, things would be different. He could tell from the lost expressions on his parents’ faces.
