Why don't you do right

Tinker Town: "I was looking at a program on TV reporting to us about the town of Stockton California going broke from government corruption. "Stockton California bankruptcy." A Stockton senior citizen was telling the reporter about the social breakdown in the Stockton community. About then the camera recorded a nice looking attractive young women living in Stockton giving the TV camera the middle finger. I wonder where in the world did that nice looking young women got that nasty kind of attitude from?"

Peppers confirms transcript, denies fraud

August, 18, 2012
By Robbi Pickeral | ESPN.com
From The Associated Press:

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Former North Carolina football star Julius Peppers confirmed it was his academic transcript that was posted on the university's website and insists there was "no academic fraud" with it.

The Chicago Bears' defensive end released a statement through his agent Saturday, nearly a week after a link to the transcript surfaced.

"This week has been an upsetting and challenging week for me, as one of my most private academic documents appeared on the university's website for public examination," Peppers said. "I'm terribly disappointed in the fact that my privacy has been violated, as well as frustrated with whoever negligently and carelessly committed such a flagrant error."

The school never confirmed the authenticity of the transcript, which lists Peppers' name at the top, but has said it is investigating how the document wound up on the website. School officials removed the link and have said they can't discuss confidential student information covered by federal privacy laws.

Book portrays Joe Paterno's reaction

Updated: August 17, 2012, 11:41 PM ET
Associated Press
Joe Paterno had to be prodded by his family to read the grand jury report regarding Jerry Sandusky and did not understand some of its graphic terminology, according to a new book.
The book, "Paterno" by Joe Posnanski, was purchased Friday by The Associated Press in advance of its release next week.
In the book, Posnanski describes a scene at Paterno's home, two days after Sandusky had been charged with child sex abuse last November. Paterno's family and a close adviser were trying to explain to the Penn State coach that there was a growing sentiment Paterno must have known for years about the accusations against Sandusky. LSU Tigers football players say they've learned from the mistakes of Shadygate

Published: Sunday, August 19, 2012,
Jim Kleinpeter, The Times Picayune By Jim Kleinpeter, The Times PicayuneBATON ROUGE -- The last night of the LSU Tigers' fall football camp came and went without incident as Thursday slipped into Friday. The players had the day off after camp's second scrimmage in the stifling afternoon heat, finished by conditioning sprints. It was likely many players, despite the level of fatigue, stayed in bed a few minutes extra, long after the sun rose just to be sure.
lsu-tigers.jpgGerald Herbert / The Associated PressLSU Tigers Coach Les Miles said he talked to his players Thursday and was confident they would not break curfew at the end of fall camp.
LSU Coach Les Miles met with the players Thursday night. One of his many topics was that night's curfew. Even though camp was over, curfew was still in effect.
"I think our team will stay in," Miles said in his Thursday night address to the media. "I think they have added incentive. They don't need too much more than I've given them."
Today is the anniversary of Shadygate, the infamous barfight involving several LSU players that precipitated a six-week saga at the start of what, oddly enough, turned out to be a highly successful season for the Tigers. But it was on that final night of camp that it took place last August. Read more...http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/08/lsu_football_players_say_theyv.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

LSU middle linebacker Kevin Minter has grown into a leader

Published: Saturday, August 18, 2012,
Scott Branson, The Times-Picayune By Scott Branson, The Times-Picayune
BATON ROUGE -- LSU welcomes this season with a new signal-caller on offense, but a veteran signal-caller at middle linebacker. Junior Kevin Minter started 11 games last season, but split time with former teammate Karnell Hatcher. This season, with three years of college football to draw on, Minter will take the reins for good.
kevin-minter.jpgMichael DeMocker / The Times-PicayuneLSU middle linebacker Kevin Minter said he started slowly last season, but by the end he 'started to get a real feel for the position.'
"I've never been a true, true starter at this position at this level, so it means something to me," Minter said. "Having the experience I had last year and being around the same guys, I've got a lot of confidence coming off a great year."
Minter said he was a "see ball, get ball" player in high school, and that learning the ins and outs of the middle linebacker position has been a long process.
"Obviously, we didn't finish last year well, but toward the end, I started to get a real feel for the position," Minter said. "Being a leader out there and having the confidence to tell people where to go and lineup, knowing the calls and all the adjustments." Honey Badger effect: LSU falls from No. 1 to 3 in AP poll

By Glenn Guilbeau, Gannett Louisiana

BATON ROUGE – Tyrann Mathieu has cost LSU a national championship. It is only a preseason national title, but the permanent dismissal last week of the star LSU cornerback for repeated positive drug tests dropped the Tigers from No. 1 to No. 3 in the Associated Press preseason poll released Saturday. LSU was voted No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The original deadline for the 60 voters to cast their ballots was Wednesday, Aug. 8, with a release date of Aug. 18. The AP tallied the votes that day and LSU finished No. 1 with 28 first place votes, followed by USC at No. 2 with 22 first place votes and No. 3 Alabama with nine. Those results were unknown to the public at the time because of the release embargo. Injuries not all bad for LSU

LSU had a series of relatively minor injuries during preseason camp, but nothing that has coach Les Miles concerned.
The one long-term injury — torn knee cartilage that likely will sideline true freshman wide receiver Travin Dural for the season — happened to a young player that faced an uphill challenge to have significant playing time this season.
