Tinker Town: "I realized that the 2000 decade has just about been the very best period of time in the history for the LSU football program. But I was surprised to learn that LSU rating in the AP top 10 college football Poll has been that successful also? Read more.

LSU Football in the AP Poll
Since 1936, the Associated Press has ranked college football teams in weekly polls.
While the AP Poll currently lists the Top 25 teams in the nation, from 1936 to 1961 the wire service only ranked 20 teams. And from 1962 to 1967 only 10 teams were recognized. From 1968 to 1988, the AP again resumed its Top 20 before expanding to 25 teams in 1989.
At the end of the 1947 season, the AP released an unofficial post-bowl poll which differed from the regular season final poll. Until the 1968 college football season, the final AP poll of the season was released following the end of the regular season, with the exception of the 1965 season.
Beginning in the 1968 season, the post bowl game poll became permanent and the AP championship reflected the bowl game results.
Notes:
- From Oct. 28, 1958, until Nov. 3, 1959, LSU was ranked No. 1 for 12-consecutive weeks.
- LSU has been ranked No. 1 for 29 weeks dating back to 1958 (not including preseason polls)
- LSU has two victories over AP No. 1-ranked teams (Oct. 11, 1997, 28-21 over Florida; Jan. 7, 2008, 38-24 over Ohio St.)
- LSU was ranked No. 1 in the AP Preseason Top 25 in 1959

Tinker Town: "It is said that the best defense is a good offense. So the new LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger must have very good timing throwing the football to his receivers, or nothing is going to change all that much for the LSU offense in 2012."

LSU Tigers counting on Bennie Logan to be their next dominant defensive tackle
Published: Monday, August 20, 2012
By Scott Branson, The Times-PicayuneBATON ROUGE -- Kyle Williams, Glenn Dorsey, Drake Nevis and 2012 first-round pick Michael Brockers helped create an LSU legacy of dominant defensive tackles. Junior Bennie Logan is next in line.
Logan, a Coushatta native, started every game last season next to Brockers, who was drafted 14th overall by the St. Louis Rams, and enters 2012 as the only Tigers defensive tackle with a start under his belt. Tabbed to wear LSU's symbolic No. 18 jersey, Logan is ready to anchor the defense. Read more...http://www.nola.com/

Ranking the nation's top 20 offensive tackles
To see a prime sampling of the nation's best offensive tackles, make sure to tune into SEC West games this season.Five of the top seven tackles in the nation play in that division, and LSU and Texas A&M each have two of the top five.
This is the fourth part of our breakdown of the nation's best players at each position; today, we're picking the top 20 offensive tackles. Part one of our position breakdowns was on running backs, part two covered wide receivers and tight ends and part three dealt with interior offensive linemen.
"Best" doesn't necessarily mean the most pro potential or even the most talent. Instead, it's a mix of what the player has accomplished and how we think the player will do this season. But production does trump potential.
We will look at a position a day until Aug. 27, when we rank all 124 of the nation's quarterbacks. Next, we will look at defensive tackles.
Here are the offensive tackle rankings. See the list and read more...http://www.nola.com/

Talk about it in Talk of Champions
"I bleed purple and gold," he said.
But in the coaching sense, he's bled for Nick Saban as well. Among the dozens of coaches he crossed paths with over four-plus decades in the business, he came to respect Saban more than any of them. So when a Saban-coached Alabama team met Jenkins' Tigers twice last year in the two most anticipated games of the college football season, the retired defensive line coach couldn't stand to watch it on television.
Saban's former assistants talk about a level of loyalty and closeness that suggests an even tighter circle. Read more...http://alabama.rivals.

As I understand the illegal drugs use guidelines at LSU. The first time that you are tested positive, you are suspended for a game or week. The second time that you fail the drudge test you are dismissed from the team for a year. I read nothing about expelled from the university. Real life goes on, no matter who is confused about the LSU university’s illegal drug by-laws and guidelines. If our friend Tyrann Mathieu frees himself from drudge addiction. Why would a court or college university stop that person from returning to where he was at the time of discovery. So he could shed the bad behavior and go on to keep living a productive life? Before Jesus, God was a unbending cruel God. After Jesus, we now know that God is a forgiving God. Should we the people do less towards each other. I would be thrilled to see Tyrann Mathieu free himself from that terrible addiction. And run back onto the football field in tiger stadium. I mean seriously, how much more grown up and manly could he get?
