Tinker Town: "The water is finally draining away from the flooded homes and streets in the New Orleans area. The rain and the wind is gone. The bright sun is shinning across the clear blue sky again. Everything should feel a lot better for the people who were riding out this storm called Isaac, the very storm that stopped still half way on, and half way off, the city that was selected to unload river boats from around the world back in the late 1700 at the near end of the mighty Mississippi river.
36 hour of a hurricane standing still, that was blowing fierce winds, torrential rain like a bad dream come true. Violently blowing rain drops into the rising flooding water, hour after hour. The after shock of witch once again is a ugly very painful thing to see because of some of the areas families worldly possessions have all been destroyed.
The electric power has been off for days on end. That will mean that the food in the freezers and refrigerator will spoil. The summer heat wave will be stifling, without a fan or air conditioner. The world that was built on electric power has now been broken by Mother nature. People really can't live like that, in a town or city built not to live that way.
God speed to our neighbors in the deep south trying to begin again after this storms Isaac very bad turn of faith. Maybe the coming college football games that will be played on this weekend will serve to help them to feel a little bit better, as they read all about the games results in the Sunday reliable morning newspapers around the country?"

Not many season-opening opponents enter enemy soil with such a bull’s-eye on their backs.
And for something they had no control over, no less.
But September 1 will be LSU’s first contest following the disappointment of last season’s BCS Championship Game, and you can be sure the Tigers will try to turn whoever the opponent would be from Mean Green to black and blue. Read more...http://www.tigerrag.

Miles ready for football and Ford
Jacques DoucetBATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
LSU head football coach Les Miles met with the media shortly after his weekly radio show Thursday night at TJ Ribs, saying he was happy his Tigers would be playing football Saturday night. However he was likewise sensitive to the Louisiana residents following Hurricane Isaac.
"In different areas of the state, major damage was done," Miles said, "You're trying to access casualties and what issues exist. It's not just as simple as….the stadium's ok. If the issue was…a lot of life and a lot of injury, I don't think there's any question we would not have played."
The coach also described the experience of the storm and his players eagerness to take the field.
"There's an eeriness with a storm. That noise, that sound, that wind…rain is constant. You get a little…cabin fever if you will. I think our guys really looked to getting back to practice today, doing something more on Friday and playing on Saturday. I think it eased everyone's mind when the official announcement came. The game was set for Saturday night in Tiger Stadium."
Miles also speaking about junior running back Michael Ford, who was cleared to play Saturday after winning an academic ineligibility appeal.
"We anticipated he'd be with us. We're glad he's cleared. I under the circumstances behind that, great decision."

The sophomore quarterback arrived at Auburn with a load of hype attached to his shoulder pads, but never looked ready to lead the Tigers. Now, he has that chance, as he'll walk onto the Georgia Dome turf in Atlanta on Saturday as Auburn's starting quarterback against No. 14 Clemson in the second game of the Chick-fil-A Ki ckoff.
The fans have been waiting. His coaches have been waiting. And he has been waiting. Now is his chance -- on a national stage, no less.
It wasn't easy for Frazier to get here. He was used more as a runner as a freshman, throwing the ball just 12 times with five completions and two interceptions. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Frazier hasn't completed a pass that traveled past the line of scrimmage in seven attempts -- unless you count his interceptions. It's no wonder Auburn's staff was so set on running him last year, as he carried the ball 76 times for 327 yards and three touchdowns.
But new offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler arrived with his pro-style offense and pledged to turn Frazier into more of a passer. And it appears he has, as Frazier beat out junior Clint Moseley and freshman Jonathan Wallace during fall camp.

The ring is the thing for Miles, LSU

Bobby Hurley was sick.
It was April 2, 1990, and his Duke basketball team was playing UNLV for the National Championship.
Hurley, then a freshman, was suffering from nausea and diarrhea at the same time. He was dehydrated. And he was being dunked on.
The sequence is detailed in Gene Wojciechowski’s fantastic book, “The Last Great Game.” Vegas won that night 103-73, the biggest margin of victory in NCAA championship-game history.
Blue Devils’ head coach Mike Krzyzewski, who is now the all-time wins leader in college basketball, but at the time had a reputation for not being able to win the big one, left Hurley in the game until the very end.
“We were already embarrassed,” Krzyzewski said in the book. “We got beat by the most points of anybody ever to lose a national championship. I think Bobby had to feel things, so him feeling that meant he’d never forget it. So I wanted him to experience the whole hurt, so to speak.”
Reading that passage, the first thing I thought of was LSU’s rings. Read more...http://www.tigerrag.
