Beset by three unrelated scandals as his incumbency’s last trimester steadily approaches, chances that Barack Obama’s presidency will be recalled as fondly as it was originally welcomed are diminishing.
Obama’s embarrassments may not mushroom into Watergates, but they are denting the reputation and sapping the energies of a presidency that arrived improbably, evolved haphazardly, and may well end anti-climactically.
The three revelations, one involving the Justice Department, another the Internal Revenue Service, and a third the State Department, are feeding suspicions that the administration is at worst immoral, at best poorly controlled, and in either case directionless.
News that in its quest to expose the sources of leaks, the Justice Department obtained lists of phone records from 20 Associated Press reporters’ and editors’ phone lines, made not only Republicans, but also a leading Democrat like Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy concede that the revelations left him “very troubled.”
A subsequent revelation that the Justice Department examined Fox News Washington correspondent James Rosen’s email and whereabouts, following his 2009 leak of a CIA report concerning North Korea, won Obama reprimand from his staunchest backer, The New York Times. The investigation resulted not only in a State Department security adviser’s indictment, but also in a request for permission from a federal judge to peek into Rosen’s correspondences because he was possibly an “abettor and/or co-conspirator” in the document’s exposure.
“Accusing a reporter of being a “co-conspirator,” admonished the Times, “shows a heavy tilt toward secrecy and insufficient concern about a free press.” Read more...http://www.jpost.com/Features/ Front-Lines/Foreign-Affairs- Losing-altitude-314222

The
best out of a three game series, or the first baseball team to win 2
games thereby winning the Super regional steeping stone to Omaha
Nebraskans college world series 2013.
This Oklahoma baseball team was picked by the
ESPN talking head as having the best dark horse college baseball team in
the super regional who just might have the raw ability necessary to
make it into Omaha Nebraska.
So this weekend the LSU tigers hopes of advancing
forward is depending on the fighting spirit of this year baseball team
that has up until now had a very successful 2013 baseball season. Now LSU ether wins the next two out of three baseball game, or they will have a long wait for another chance to advance next year.

They played 10 games during the regular season against teams who made the NCAA regionals and went 6-4 in those games.

The Sooners have had 2 dependable weekend starters. Everyone knows about Jonathan Gray, who is expected to be a Top 3 draft pick when the names are called this week. The number 2 guy is Dillon Overton, who has compiled a nice 10-2 record with a 2.91 ERA. Their 3rd slot has been a rotating cycle this year with Adam Choplick having 10 starts on the season, but Choplick has been ineffective with a 5.35 ERA. Head Coach Sunny Galloway seems to have settled in the last few weeks with Senior lefty Jake Fisher as his 3rd starter. Fisher got the victory in the Sooners' regional clinching win over Virginia Tech on Sunday.
Pitching matchups for this weekend should look like this:

Cody Glenn has served his time.
After head coach Paul Mainieri suspended his sophomore starting pitcher for last weekend’s Baton Rouge regional for a violation of team rules, Glenn is back in the LSU active roster.
Glenn, who is 7-2 with a 2.41 ERA in 14 starts this season, will be in the Tigers’ 27-man roster for this weekend’s Super Regional vs. Oklahoma in Baton Rouge
.
“Cody has been returned to active status on our roster, and he will be eligible to participate in the Super Regional,” Mainieri said. “He delivered a sincere apology to his teammates, and they voted unanimously to have him back with us. We’ll move forward with Cody as a part of our team and turn our attention toward Oklahoma.”
Without Glenn, LSU won all three of its games in the Baton Rouge regional over the weekend, defeating Jackson State, Sam Houston State, and ULL to advance. Senior lefty Brent Bonvillain got the start in Sunday’s title game against ULL in Glenn’s place, allowing just one run on three hits in 5.1 innings pitched.

One reason Gary Patterson has been able to sustain such a high level of success in his 13 years as TCU's head coach is that he always prepares for the worst. "When everything's going great is when he starts to think about everything that could possibly go wrong," said his boss, athletic director Chris Del Conte. So in January 2011, amid the euphoria following the Horned Frogs' 13-0 season and Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin, the Rozel, Kan., native issued a dire yet colorful warning to his staff.
"'I don't know how many of you grew up in the Midwest,'" Patterson told his assistants, "'but the Rose Bowl is like an 85-degree day in January in Kansas.' They looked at me like I was crazy. The bottom line is, if you have an 85-degree day, the worst storm of your life is coming."
The two and half years since the Rose Bowl have had their hiccups, but they've hardly been catastrophic for TCU. On the contrary, they've included several more important milestones. Still, a storm is an apt description for the rapid torrent of change the program has recently experienced. Its stadium went through a two-year, $164 million makeover. It left the Mountain West for the Big East and then -- before ever playing a league game -- decided to join the Big 12.
In February 2012, just as the Horned Frogs ramped up for their first season in a power conference, a campus drug bust led to the arrests and dismissals of four players, three of whom were starters. Four games into the season, star quarterback Casey Pachall -- who had previously failed a team drug test ordered by Patterson shortly before the police sting -- was arrested for DWI and left school to enter a rehab program for drug and alcohol addiction. TCU also lost its top three running backs either before or during an eventual 7-6 campaign.
In both a concession to the adversity they overcame and a sign of respect for Patterson's program, the Frogs, despite coming off their worst season since 2004, are widely expected to contend for the Big 12 title this fall. They were the highest-ranked team from their conference in Andy Staples' post-spring Top 25.
"Just go back and look at all the different changes. There were a lot of reasons for everybody to throw up their arms here in the last year and a half," said Patterson, who has gone 116-36 at the school. "... I think TCU showed that the foundation of the university and the program were pretty strong to fight through it and get back to a bowl game."

The talking head said Miles sounded cowardly by not wanting to play Florida every year.
Hello? Did you see the pictures of Miles hanging his $4.3 million per year patootie off the side of one of Baton Rouge’s tallest buildings Thursday?
Anyone willing to do that — outrageous as it might seem to the rest of us — is not afraid of playing Florida every year. Or anyone else.
LSU doesn’t want to do away with permanent opponents out of fear. LSU wants to do away with permanent opponents because it’s the right thing to do.
It’s right for everyone in the SEC to play each other within a reasonable time frame, say every three to four years. Every six years, which is how often LSU would play everyone in the SEC East besides Florida under the current 6-1-1 schedule format, isn’t right by any means. Neither is LSU having to play Florida and Georgia this year, two legitimate SEC East contenders, while Alabama gets Tennessee and Kentucky, who will be fighting for space on the SEC East cellar floor.
Of course, there is wanting and there is getting. For LSU, getting the conference to change its football scheduling format going into this year’s SEC Spring Meeting seemed about as likely as getting the folks in Destin, Fla., to pave asphalt over their sugar sand beaches.
That was before the SEC presidents and chancellors got together in Destin on Friday and decided the argument from Miles and LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva had some merit. Read more...http://theadvocate.com/ sports/lsu/6137696-123/ rabalais-lsu-gets-early-score

Rabalais: LSU gets early score on scheduling, but has long way to go

Read more...http://theadvocate.com/
