Between 2007 and 2011, Alabama produced the best average ranking from Rivals. Nick Saban’s stockpiling of elite talent translated into two national championships in the past three years, plus four straight 10-win seasons.Tinker Town: "Answer, yes this Alabama/LSU is the best again result for the past two years is really not so much of a mystery after all."

Alabama, LSU poised to do it again?

September, 17, 2012
By Chris Low | ESPN.comWhat does the college football establishment least want to see?
A) A payment system for the players based on how many recruiting stars that player had coming out of high school.

B) Unrestricted free agency.

C) A 16-team playoff with the championship game being played the Saturday before the Super Bowl.

D) Alabama and LSU to square off again for the 2012 national championship.

Just to be clear here, the chances of the first three happening are right up there with the chances of coaches’ salaries being geared to how many players they graduate and not how many games or championships they win.

The fourth one, though, isn’t that outrageous.

In fact, based on what we’ve seen the first three weeks of the season, Alabama vs. LSU has as much merit as any other potential matchup for the Discover BCS National Championship Game in South Florida. Read more...

BATON ROUGE - Despite losing six starters from last year's defense that ranked among the best in the nation, this year's group of Tiger defenders hasn't missed a beat through the first three weeks of the season as LSU again has one of the top units in college football.
Second-ranked LSU will face its stiffest test of the season on Saturday as the Tigers travel to face Auburn at 6 p.m. CT in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. Read more...http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205688025

Clemson, Notre Dame, Florida State must prove worth

by Dan Wolken, USA TODAY Sports

Clemson is 3-0, ranked No. 9 in the USA TODAY coaches poll and has most of its key players from the team that won last year's ACC title. What the Tigers will encounter Saturday at No. 4 Florida State is nothing new.
And yet, Clemson is one of a handful of teams yet to prove whether it deserves to be taken seriously as the college football schedule starts to separate championship contenders from the rest of the pack.
"I'm really excited to see our guys go and play in this environment against a team that a lot of people are picking to win it all and rightfully so," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. "We're going to find out one way or another." Read more...http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/story/2012/09/17/time-for-top-college-teams-to-prove-it/57797544/1

Cavalcade of Whimsy - Did Arkansas Quit?

THe Week 3 Cavalcade of Whimsy - Did Arkansas Quit?

Cavalcade of Whimsy

Sept. 18, 2012, Part 1

Sorry if this column sucks, it’s not my fault … do I feel at times that I gave up out there? Yeah. Absolutely. It sucks I can’t do anything about it.

“Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy f***ing walrus-looking piece of s**t! Get the f*** off of my obstacle! Get the f*** down off of my obstacle! NOW! MOVE IT! Or I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world! I will motivate you, Private Pyle, IF IT SHORT-D***S EVERY CANNIBAL ON THE CONGO!” ... Yeah, yeah, yeah, everyone gets all squishy about teams that give it the old college try for a full sixty minutes and keep playing hard until the final gun sounds – except when it comes to Tampa Bay against the Giants – but really, who cares if Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson is right and his team quit against Alabama? It tried its best for the first half and well into the third, but when the score was 38-0 and with national title hopes long gone, in a game with absolutely no hope whatsoever of being remotely interesting against a team that’s at least three touchdowns better right now than anyone but LSU, then live to fight another day. A loss is a loss; the score shouldn’t matter. And for those who despise the idea of the Hogs not going full-tilt in a hopeless cause, if you took off before the game is over, and if you clicked the channel to something more interesting, then you quit on the game, too.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

9/19/12 5:50 am CDT

Good morning, Tiger Fans.
The No. 2 LSU football team (3-0) will begin conference play this Saturday against SEC rival Auburn (1-2) at Jordan Hare Stadium. The game will be televised to a national audience on ESPN with a 6 p.m. CT kickoff. LSU is coming off a 63-14 win over Idaho, while Auburn barely survived an overtime scare from Louisiana-Monroe, 31-28 last Saturday. Last year, LSU posted a 45-10 win over Auburn in Tiger Stadium in what was the largest-margin of victory for either team in the series. LSU leads the overall series, 25-20-1, but the home team has won 12 of the last 13 matchups.
If anyone doubts that we are in the golden age of LSU football, consider the following stats released by LSU's sports information department. LSU is riding a 24-game winning streak in games played during the month of September (last loss at Auburn, 2006) as well as the nation’s longest regular-season winning streak at 16 straight (13 in 2011, 3 in 2012). With its win over Idaho last week, LSU set the FBS record for consecutive non-conference regular season wins with 40 in a row dating back to the 2002 season. LSU also set the school record for consecutive wins in Tiger Stadium at 20 straight. With its 63-14 win over Idaho, 16 of LSU’s last 17 wins have come by double-digits and the Tigers have scored 40 or more points in 13 of their last 17 contests. LSU goes into the Auburn game leading the SEC in scoring (48.3 ppg), rushing offense (269.3 ypg), rushing defense (47.0 ypg) and total defense (205.0 ypg). Read more...http://www.dandydon.com/
