Well the tension of gazing into the 2012 crystal ball is now relieved.

Tinker Town: "Well the tension of gazing into the 2012 college football season crystal ball is now relieved. Because we now know that the 2012 LSU fighting tiger football team is lead my "don't worry about it" Less Miles, and quarterbacked by silly puddy QB Zach Mettenberger...Geaux Tigers - our future is driven by the very repetitive dreams of a good recruiter, and not so good manager."

LSU football team running out of time to fix mistakes

LSU's drop from No. 2 to No. 3 in the top two college football polls was a two-step process.
spencer_ware.jpg

LSU tailback Spencer Ware played a key role in the Tigers' 12-10 victory with 90 yards rushing and two catches for 44 yards.
It had a lot to do with the Tigers' sloppy performance in a 12-10 victory against Auburn, and just as much to do with new No. 2 Oregon's 49-0 pounding of Arizona.
To media and coaches voting in the poll, LSU looked a bit overrated when finally faced with a worthy opponent, and made a judgment call. Normally a victory at least keeps a team in place for another week.
But in future weeks, if the Tigers fail to make significant improvement, they'll fall in the polls again and it won't be a judgment call.
LSU gets one last non-conference game with Towson Saturday before hitting the meat of the schedule, beginning with a likely matchup of unbeatens at Florida Field on Oct. 6 against the No. 11 Florida Gators, who are 4-0 and 3-0 in conference play. Close win over Auburn is No. 3 LSU's reality check

Zach Mettenberger smartly qualified his attempt to place perspective on LSU's narrow win over Auburn.
The junior quarterback, in his first year as a starter, called Saturday night's 12-10 win ''the biggest game of my life so far.''
The key words in Mettenberger's appraisal were ''so far.'' Much bigger games are coming soon for the Tigers, who are 4-0 but dropped a spot to No. 3 Sunday in The Associated Press Top 25.
LSU plays Towson this week before starting an imposing string of Southeastern Conference games on Oct. 6 at Florida. The Tigers then play South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama and Mississippi State.
Coach Les Miles says LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC) must improve after struggling offensively against Auburn, which has an overtime victory over Louisiana-Monroe as its only win.
''We were sloppy,'' Miles said. ''It's interesting, we practice the ability not to have penalties, but what happens is guys lose their poise. This is a tremendous lesson for us which is something that we'll certainly be able to teach from in a very aggressive manner.''
Miles said his defense ''played extremely well,'' especially in the second half. The offense was flat as Mettenberger lost two fumbles.
LSU's powerful running game was held to 182 yards - good for most teams but almost 100 yards below the Tigers' league-leading average.
Perhaps the most encouraging drive for LSU's offense didn't produce any points.
The Tigers took possession with 4:17 remaining. LSU needed first downs to run down the clock and prevent Auburn from having the opportunity to attempt a game-winning field goal. Read more...http://sports.yahoo.com/news/close-win-over-auburn-no-213559333--ncaaf.html

Glenn Guilbeau: Ugly wins can still be very pretty in SEC mirror

AUBURN, Ala. – It was not the loveliest victory on the Plains.
The only thing uglier than former No. 2 LSU’s 12-10 win over unranked and now 1-3 Auburn on Saturday night is LSU’s schedule.
After dipping their toes in the Southeastern Conference pool at Auburn and finding the water almost a tad too unpleasant, LSU returns to the friendly confines of its stadium and its easiest non-conference schedule in the BCS era.
You can almost feel it in the air. You can almost slice the tension with a knife. Yes, it’s Towson week. But like the win over Auburn, ugly may be in the eye of the beholder.
The near disaster at Auburn revealed some scars that need to be powdered. That’s a good thing. LSU can correct its overall sloppy play, pass blocking and try to eliminate the lack of discipline that led to four personal fouls before it ventures into the deeper end of the pool at Florida a week from Saturday … if it survives Towson. Defense still LSU's calling card

September, 23, 2012

AUBURN, Ala. -- LSU's offense, unlike last year's version, has a tendency to turn the ball over, especially in the red zone.

And the special teams? Last season was near perfection for a unit that routinely flipped the field. This year, the Tigers are missing field goals, getting penalties on returns and at times are just plain sloppy.

The defense, however, is vintage.

In Saturday's 12-10 win over Auburn, No. 2 LSU allowed the Plainsmen's offense a season-low 183 yards. It was another dominant performance from a unit that entered the night leading the SEC in total defense at 205 yards a game.

Shanna Lockwood/US PresswireLSU linebacker Luke Muncie forced one of Auburn's three turnovers.

Unlike LSU's three previous performances, the Tigers needed every stop it could get against Auburn in what was LSU's first close game of the season.

"We were tested," said defensive end
Sam Montgomery, who was at his disruptive best with 3.5 tackles for loss, including his second sack of the season. "I loved this. I loved the challenge."

The LSU defense kept answering challenges, even when other parts of the team struggled. The offense shot itself in the foot with a fumble in the red zone and another fumble that set Auburn up for a short field on its only touchdown. LSU has now failed to score in red zone possessions more times in four games this season (5) than it did in 14 games last season (4).

The special teams had destructive moments, including one punt return where the return team was flagged for not only a hold on the return, but a dead ball personal foul. There was also a missed field goal late in the game. Read more...http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/colleges/lsu/post/_/id/4544/defense-still-lsus-calling-card

BCS #1 vs. BCS #2

Comment: An indifferent performance by LSU at Auburn means we can no longer ignore the juggernaut that is Alabama. It will face ACC champion Florida State in the title game.-- Jerry Palm
The champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to certain bowls, unless they are No. 1 or No. 2. (ACC: Orange; Big Ten: Rose; Big 12: Fiesta; Pac-12: Rose; SEC: Sugar). If a Bowl loses a host team to the title game, then the bowl gets first choice at a replacement team. The rest of the selection order for 2013 is as follows: Fiesta, Sugar, Orange.
