Momentum in college football is where the energy is...

Tinker Town: "mo·men·tum/mōˈmentəm/definition - The impetus gained by a moving object.  An absolutely perfect description of one football player getting the advantage over another football player, because of extra energy."

Florida Gators, rested after bye, get ready for LSU Tigers

By Antonya English, Times Staff Writer

GAINESVILLE — There are two very different sides to No. 10 Florida having had its only open date last week. On the one hand, injured Gators got healthy — most notably RB Trey Burton (back spasms), TE Jordan Reed (head) and DL Dominique Easley (knee) — who are all expected to return Saturday against LSU.
Then there's the flip side.
The Gators (4-0, 3-0 SEC) now play eight consecutive weeks with an October schedule that includes No. 4 LSU, No. 5 Georgia and No. 6 South Carolina. No. 3 Florida State awaits in November in Tallahassee. Read more...http://www.tampabay.com/sports/college/florida-gators-rested-after-bye-get-ready-for-lsu-tigers/1254308

After 60 days, it's a different LSU than expected

Category: Tommy Krysan Blog

The LSU football team reported to campus back on August 1. As we sit here today after five games played and a record of 5-0, this is a much different team. It is safe to say that it is not a better team.
Prior to the season, I predicted that LSU would win 10 games. It will be close but could be nine or eleven. No I am leaning to 9.

LSU released a depth chart to start the preseason which included seven players on the two-deep depth chart who are no longer playing for the Tigers. Tyrann Mathieu was dismissed while Alfred Blue, Chris Faulk, and JC Copeland have been injured. Others such as Tahj Jones, DJ Welter and Tyler Edwards had academic issues. A few others who were not expected to contribute are also gone. Read more...http://www.sportsnola.com/sports/sports-blogs/tommy-krysan/588256.html

As the SEC angles for yet another title rematch, we restore SANITY

To: An open letter to the coaches' and Harris poll voters
From: Society For Normal Intercollegiate Football This Year (SANITY)
Dear Voter:
It has come to our attention that ya'll are thinking the same thing again. An SEC rematch in the BCS championship game.
It's 13 days and counting until the first BCS standings are released. You Harrisites will debut Sunday. Voting patterns will be scrutinized. They already have been in the coaches' poll. To your credit, New Orleans couldn't have been crazier for LSU-Alabama II in January. Unfortunately for local hype, there happen to be televisions outside of the Big Easy too. They were largely switched off for what was supposed to be the biggest game of the year. Read more...http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/20425732/

SEC East powers Georgia, S. Carolina gear up

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) The season's first Eastern Division showdown in the Southeastern Conference is set: No. 5 Georgia at No. 6 South Carolina on Saturday.
The matchup between the 5-0 teams should again go a long way in settling who will represent the division at the Georgia Dome in the SEC title game Dec. 1. The winner won't have a clear path - the Gamecocks (3-0 SEC) face undefeated No. 10 Florida on Oct. 20 while the Bulldogs (3-0 SEC) play the Gators a week later - but will have an edge the loser will need help to make up.
"It's a huge game," South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said Sunday. "We all know it."
And it features some of the best the SEC East has to offer this season.
Young Georgia tailback Todd Gurley leads the league in rushing and has made the sort of impact Gamecocks junior runner Marcus Lattimore did two years ago. Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones and South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney are two of the top pass rushers in the country.
Georgia, last year's SEC East winner, have lost two straight in the series. The Bulldogs have never dropped three in a row in the rivalry that began in 1894.
"We've got something to prove," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "If we can keep improving, get prepared and stay together, we have a good chance to get after it."

Zach Mettenberger embraces change for sake of points

By scott rabalais

A clean-shaven Zach Mettenberger greeted reporters Monday, his somewhat notorious moustache banished by the LSU quarterback in a rather superstitious attempt to breathe changes into the Tigers’ choppy offense.
“The moustache was a great look for me,” Mettenberger said, “but unfortunately we didn’t play too hot the first five games. I’m hoping to bring a different vibe to the offense and some good luck.”
An amusing but hardly constructive change going into No. 4-ranked LSU’s biggest test to date Saturday at No. 10 Florida (2:30 p.m. CDT on CBS).
Both coach and quarterback said more meaningful alterations are at hand to try to rehabilitate an offense that has committed only two fewer turnovers in five games (eight) than it did in 14 games in 2011 (10) and ranks 93rd nationally in passing (203.2 yards per game). “I think our quarterback play by and large has been very good,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “(But) the things that he tries to do by extending the play put him in jeopardy.”

Lackluster efforts in victories against Auburn and Towson have fourth-ranked LSU needing to make an adjustment as it begins the heart of its SEC schedule this week.
The Tigers will take on 10th-ranked Florida at "the Swamp" in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday.
Coach Les Miles has been unhappy with the way his team has performed the past two weeks, a span in which LSU (5-0, 1-0) committed five turnovers and 19 penalties. Towson outrushed LSU by 30 yards due to a number of missed tackles.
"We need to play better," Miles said Monday. "We need to be consistent with our culture. We had uncharacteristic turnovers. I'm glad we're getting them out early. We can't afford them as we go forward.
"Our defense played like they are expected to play in spots (against Towson). But, we unexpectedly gave up a grind-out drive at the back end of the game. I am not happy with the penalties. This team understands how to play and the culture in our building. I suspect they will play well against Florida."
LSU has won its first five games for the fourth straight season and for the fifth time in Miles' eight years as coach. Florida, in its second year under coach Will Muschamp, has won its first four games.
"The Swamp is a great place to play," said Miles, who has a 1-2 record in Gainesville. "If you enjoy classic college venues and if you enjoy the SEC, the Swamp is as good as it gets. It's a quality opponent on the road and it's loud."Read and see Video...http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/preview?gameId=322800057
