Big 3 reasons Tiger Offense is better: Gary Laney of ESPN:

Tinker Town: "Losing to the Ole Miss Rebels is not a option for the LSU fighting tigers football team today. Everything is riding on LSU winning out the rest of the way."

GAMETIME PREVIEW: Ole Miss

LSU looks to maintain focus against Rebels

With preseason goals of divisional, conference, and national titles basically unreachable at this point in the season and two lackluster opponents remaining on the schedule, it’s easy to see how LSU could look ahead to the 2013 season.
To make present matters more difficult to focus on, LSU’s offense is finally clicking into full-gear, and the return of key pieces next season leads to an optimistic tendency to peek ahead.
“It’s hard not to look ahead to next year,” admitted Tiger QB Zach Mettenberger. “But at the same time, we have a game against Ole Miss next week, and that’s our primary concern this year.”
Even with the above goals out of reach, LSU still has a lot to play for. If the chips fall correctly, the Tigers could end up in a BCS bowl as an at-large berth. Florida losing to Florida State would help matters, and if Pac-12 Oregon remains undefeated and runs into the BCS title game, the Tigers could be Pasadena-bound for the Rose Bowl.
None of that can happen if LSU falters down the home stretch, however, particularly against a 5-5, 2-4 Ole Miss team that is improved from 2011 under first-year head coach Hugh Freeze but needs a win in its final two games to claim bowl eligibility.
The Rebels nearly reached that goal last week against Vanderbilt, but blew a late lead and lost 27-26. They did so despite a 31-of-49, 403 yard, 1 TD showing from sophomore QB Bo Wallace. A big part of the loss, however, was Wallace and the offense’s inability to get six, as the Rebels settled for four field goals on the night.
“The stats probably look good, but there were a couple of times when we were in the red-zone where we could have punched it in, and maybe I made a bad decision or something like that,” Wallace said after the game. “So it’s a tough loss.” Read more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=233172

Big 3: Miles praises resurgent offense

November, 14, 2012
By Gary Laney | ESPN.comBATON ROUGE, La. -- Improvement in the offense and bowl games were both big topics when LSU coach Les Miles spoke with the media Wednesday in the SEC's weekly teleconference. The Tigers (8-2), ranked No. 7 in the BCS, play their last home game Saturday against Ole Miss (5-5).

1. Offense has arrived: Asked about his teams improved offense in the last two games, Miles praised his offense.

"This is us," he said. "We're going to line up and make teams defend the run and the pass on the same down and distance."

The Tigers have improved drastically since the bye week, especially quarterback
Zach Mettenberger and the passing game. The Tigers have thrown for 571 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in their last two games, against Alabama and Mississippi State. LSU has averaged 413.5 yards in those two games, despite playing against an Alabama defense that was ranked No. 1 in the country.

In the eight games before the bye -- a stretch that included three "guarantee" game opponents -- the Tigers averaged just 387.5 yards per game.

2. Going bowling: Miles had two comments about the postseason.

First, he said the SEC champion should receive "tremendous consideration" to play in the BCS National Championship game, even if some other teams go undefeated. The SEC lacks an undefeated team after Texas A&M's upset of Alabama, which is one of three one-loss SEC teams along with Georgia and Florida.

Georgia has already clinched a spot in the SEC championship game in Atlanta. Alabama could clinch a spot with an Iron Bowl win over Auburn. If each team takes care of its remaining game, the SEC champion will be 12-1.

Of his own team's bowl future, Miles said his team is "vaguely looking at what could be the landscape" of college football. Read more...

The latest issue of ESPN The Magazine – “One Day, One Game” – on newsstands Friday – captures a college football game day from 360˚. While most of fans’ attention is on the few hours of the game itself, this issue dedicates its focus to the intricacies of what goes into making these couple of hours worthy of our undivided attention. The issue documents the November 3 game between Alabama and LSU ten months after the national title game, which was more than a rematch – it was a battle for the ages.
When two coaches and two teams and two legions of fans all descended on Death Valley, the overflowing hopes and uncertainties soon became a deafening roar of desperation. Described as a test of wills that Nick Saban won and Les Miles still believes he can win, it was 1 minute, 34 seconds that made AJ McCarron a folk hero. It was college football. The tailgates and traditions, the screaming sorority girls and fired-up frat boys, the marching bands and mascots. On November 3, you would have sworn Baton Rouge trembled, while the rest of the world stood still.
Go to behind-the-scenes video and photos from Tiger Stadium and listen to The Mag’s Editor in Chief Chad Millman as he talks with writers Wright Thompson about his story on Les Miles’ obsession to win and Mark Winegardner about LSU and Alabama fans and extreme fandom gone wrong.
