According to numbers submitted under the U.S. Department of Education’s Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act, LSU ranked sixth nationally in 2011-12 with revenues of $113,964,540. After all expenses, the department managed a profit of $18,261,340.
According to Mark Ewing, the LSU athletic department’s chief financial officer, LSU’s $18.3 million profit came before the department donated approximately $8.2 million to the academic side of the university.
LSU’s total athletic revenue comes from a variety of sources such as ticket sales, TV and radio contracts and merchandising as well as donations through the Tiger Athletic Foundation.
Eleven schools reported revenues of more than $100 million, led by Texas with $163.3 million. LSU ranked third in the Southeastern Conference behind Alabama ($124.1 million) and Florida ($120.3 million). SEC members Auburn and Tennessee also were in the $100 million club at $106.0 million and $105.9 million. Arkansas ($99.8 million) just missed that mark.
Of LSU’s revenue, approximately 60 percent — $68,804,309 — came from football. Read more...http://theadvocate.com/

1908 National Champions (Posted on 12/11/12 at 7:38 a.m.)
Just curious, but why doesn't LSU acknowledge this title?
Only 2 teams were awarded Titles.
LSU who went 10-0 and outscored their opponents 442-11
Pennsylvania went 11-0-1. Their tie came against Carlisle Indian School.
Sure it's a split title, but so is 2003 and no one has a problem claiming it. Pretty obvious who the best team in 1908 was even without the split title. I mean, c'mon Carlisle Indian School?

Mel Kiper: LSU Tigers loaded with NFL prospects
Mingo, Montgomery project as first-round NFL picks
Kiper said he has Mingo ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect and Montgomery at No. 21, though those rankings will change multiple times before the April draft. Underclassmen have until mid-January to declare for the draft, and it’s unlikely any LSU players will announce a decision before their Chick-fil-A Bowl game against Clemson on New Year’s Eve.
Other Tigers underclassmen that Kiper identified as potential early entrants into the draft are safety Eric Reid, linebacker Kevin Minter, defensive tackle Bennie Logan, cornerback Tharold Simon and offensive tackle Chris Faulk.
He said former LSU cornerback/punt returner Tyrann Mathieu likely would have been projected as a second-round pick but now projects anywhere from the third round to the fifth round after being kicked off the team.
“The highest-rated is still Mingo,” Kiper said during a conference call. “He has not had the sacks or the tackles for loss that he had last year. But he can still close and has a tremendous burst.”
Mingo has 5.5 tackles for loss, including four sacks, after having 15 tackles for loss, including eight sacks, last season.
“He has tremendous potential as a pass rusher,” Kiper said. “He’ll get coached up in the NFL. He has real good versatility, being able to play up and down. He wasn’t dominant, but he has the talent to be that in the NFL.”
Montgomery has 12 tackles for loss, including seven sacks, and did better than Mingo in postseason honors.
“Sam Montgomery has had better numbers, but he doesn’t have the burst or athleticism of Mingo,” Kiper said. “Montgomery is a great college player. He might not be as good an NFL player (as Mingo) because he doesn’t have that exceptional skill set.” Read more...http://theadvocate.com/ sports/lsu/4659571-123/mel- kiper-lsu-tigers-loaded

He can run downhill with authority. He runs with power and athleticism and has that spin move. He had some nicks and played through some injuries. He can do a lot of things.” MEL KIPER, on Alabama and former Dutchtown running back Eddie LacyLSU has “a ton of (NFL draft) prospects” and defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Sam Montgomery are the Tigers most likely to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft, if they forgo their senior seasons, ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said Tuesday.
Kiper said he has Mingo ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect and Montgomery at No. 21, though those rankings will change multiple times before the April draft. Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
Good morning, Tiger Fans.
It was back to work for the LSU football team yesterday as they resumed conditioning and weight drills, and tomorrow they will begin practicing for the upcoming Chick-fil-A bowl game. The team will practice seven times before breaking for Christmas following the December 22nd workout, and will depart for Atlanta on December 26th.
LSU opened as a three-point favorite in the game and has since climbed to a four-point favorite. It will be interesting to see the line climbs a point higher today after news broke last night that Clemson’s reserve wide receiver Martavis Bryant will be suspended from the game for failing to meet academic requirements. Bryant is a sophomore with 10 catches on the season for 305 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games. He was listed second on the depth chart behind Clemson’s star wideout DeAndre Hopkins.
Yesterday Sports Illustrated released its All-America Teams and I was happy to see Kevin Minter named to their first team. Minter led the team in tackles this year with 111 and was easily the team’s most improved player. I sure hope Minter returns for his senior season, and I think he should, but after the incredible year he’s had I'm sure the decision won’t be an easy one for him. Sam Montgomery and Eric Reid were named Sports Illustrated 2nd-team All-Americans and Brad Wing made honorable mention.
The AP also released its All-America teams yesterday and Minter and Eric Reid made their second team, while Montgomery made their third team. If you're having trouble keeping track of all the individual awards LSU players have received this year, check out this complete list of individual awards that LSUSports.net has compiled.
It was great hearing from many of you yesterday about the recruiting news I posted. Later in the day I realized that I omitted a couple of prospects that a few of you were asking about, so I've listed them below:
Robert Nkemdiche (DE, 6’5”, 270, Loganville, Georgia). As most of you know, Nkemdiche is the No. 1 recruit in the nation. To tell you the truth, up until recently I thought Nkemdiche was a long-shot for LSU, but according to this article by Jimmy Smith of Nola.com, who does a great job covering recruiting, LSU is still very much in the hunt. Nkemdiche’s really likes LSU, while his mother would like him to play at Ole Miss with his brother. Clemson and Alabama are also very much in the hunt. This is one to watch closely as Nkemdiche’s commitment would be HUGE for this LSU class. 40-60
Jamal Carter (S, 6'2", 193, Miami) Although Carter is currently committed to Miami, LSU Coach Corey Raymond visited him in his home two weekends ago and according to reports the visit went very well. In fact it went so well that Carter will be visiting LSU this weekend. 35-65
Rueben Foster (LB, 6'1", 250, Auburn). Foster was previously committed to Auburn, but has now opened up his recruitment. Georgia appears to be his leader at this time, although LSU, Alabama, Miami and Washington are also in the picture, as well as Auburn. 30-70. Read more...http://www.dandydon.
