Who is getting the best high school football players?

Tinker Town: "When and where it all starts for our favorite college football team. Is of course in the very beginning when a modern day college football coach, and staff, selects the high school football player that will play college football under the heads coaches school colors. That is the beginning of the end for the best college football teams in America today. Without the best college football players, the head coach is toast before the college football game even begins.

Nick Saban after getting the head coaching job at Alabama begin selecting the very best college football players that his newly hired coaching staff could find. You know the rest of that story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_Crimson_Tide_football

Quote: "Nick Saban era (2007–present) Saban became the first and thus far only coach to win 3 BCS titles. As of the completion of the 2012 season, Saban's current official record at Alabama is 57–13 (62–13 on the field, but 5 wins from the 2007 season were vacated).[76]On September 4, 2012, Alabama earned the top spot in the USA Today Coaches' Poll following its win against the University of Michigan. They received 37 first-place votes, a net gain of 17 from the preseason poll.[83]"

That is the speed that Nick Saban begin winning football game for the University of Alabama again. So then to is the faith of all the other college coaching staffs working as college football coaches today. Recruit the best high school football players, or die."

Dandy Don's LSU Report

Good morning, Tiger Fans.
The LSU football team will return to the practice field Thursday in preparation for the Chick-fil-A Bowl game against Clemson on New Year’s Eve. I don't know about you, but to me it seems like it’s been ages since LSU’s win over Arkansas, and I’m looking forward to seeing the Tigers of LSU and Clemson face off in what should be one of the better bowl games of the season. A win for LSU would be huge in terms of team morale and would propel the team into the offseason full of confidence. A win would also give LSU football its best three-year stretch in school history with 35 victories. (LSU also won 34 games in '05-07.) If ever you doubt that we are indeed in the Golden Age of LSU football, just think back to that stat.

Yesterday I mentioned the recruitment of Rickey Seals-Jones, and most of you probably know by now that he chose Texas A&M. As I stated before, I suspected that he would decide to stay close to home and play for Texas A&M and Heisman quarterback Johnny Manziel. Texas A&M already has commitments from 34 players, including at least six who would likely play wide receiver, and it will be interesting to see how they make those numbers work. One thing is for sure, Texas A&M’s entrance into the SEC has changed the recruiting landscape for LSU. In LSU's current group of 24 commits, none are from Texas.

With Seals-Jones out of the picture for LSU, it's a good time to revisit LSU’s recruiting needs and targets for this year’s class. LSU's 24 commitments include Fehoko Fanaika and Avery Johnson who committed last year but had to go the JUCO route to become qualified. I suspect that those two, along with one or two early enrollees, will be back-counted towards last year's class of 21, leaving room for four or five more commitments in this year’s class. LSU's biggest remaining needs, in terms of position, are for a tall receiver, another defensive lineman, and another defensive back. However, their biggest target simply because of the talent he possesses and the fact that he is the state’s best player is linebacker Kendell Beckwith.

Below is a list of the remaining targets that I have been hearing the most about in the past week, along with my estimate on LSU's chances of signing each. I've listed them in order of likelihood, from highest to lowest.

Maquedius Bain (DT, 6'4", 290, Fort Lauderdale, FL) – LSU could really use an offensive tackle and Bain is a good one. Check out this interview of Bain conducted by Jon Bastian and I think you’ll agree that LSU appears to be his clear leader. In it, he speaks very highly of LSU’s coaching staff and says that he and his mother will be officially visiting LSU this coming weekend. He also plans to visit FSU and Louisville. His announcement won’t come until signing day. 70/30

Cethan Carter (TE, 6'4", 235, Rummel, No. 24 on our list of Top LA Football Prospects for the Class of 2013). Carter is a true sleeper who began getting lots of attention in LHSAA playoffs. He was once considered too small before hitting a growth spurt in his senior season. In the state championship, Carter had five catches for 74 yards and a TD. Unless LSU just doesn't have enough space for another tight end, I think he’ll be a Tiger. 65/35

Kendell Beckwith (DE/LB, 6'3", 225, East Feliciana, No. 1 on our list of Top LA Football Prospects for the Class of 2013). Beckwith has long stated that his two leaders and LSU and Alabama, and last week he took his official visit to Bama and had a great time. I still give a slight edge to LSU, but this one will be an intense battle. Beckwith is expected to make his announcement at the Under Armour All-Star game on January 4, but he won't be taking his official visit to LSU until mid-January. I wouldn’t read too much into that though, as Beckwith has taken several unofficial visits to LSU and is well aware of all it has to offer. A plan for a fairer SEC schedule

By JIM ENGSTER
Tiger Rag Featured Columnist

SEC honchos cling to their contention that the current 14-school alignment is balanced, and each week provides an opportunity for a low echelon member to knock off one of the championship caliber teams competing for BCS honors.  Despite the luxury of each school swimming in television rights revenue and new facilities springing up in places like Starkville and Nashville, the Southeastern Conference remains a league of haves and have nots.

Only seven current members of the SEC have won more than two conference football championships. The remaining seven members (Kentucky, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Missouri) have combined for just three SEC football titles in the 80 years the league has been in existence.

Two members did not join until 1992 (Arkansas and South Carolina) while Texas A&M and Missouri joined in 2012, but it is notable that the league is so top heavy that a half dozen schools  (Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia , LSU, Florida and Auburn) have combined for 77 SEC crowns compared to a paltry 7 for the remaining eight schools.

Georgia Tech left the SEC in 1964 and has five SEC football titles on its shelf.  Tulane captured league honors three times before departing the conference in 1966. It is curious that Georgia Tech and Tulane have more SEC football hardware than Ole Miss, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Missouri put together.

It is the opinion of this column that SEC Commissioner Mike Slive should court Tulane and Georgia Tech as prospects to rejoin the lodge. Put Tulane in the SEC West and install Georgia Tech in the SEC East and play seven SEC games to determine the division title. Other rivalries such as LSU vs. Florida and Alabama vs. Tennessee would not count in the SEC standings. As a result of this strategy, there would be a remedy to the current disparity in strength of schedule.

If Alabama captures another BCS trophy next month, skeptics will note the Crimson Tide faced Tennessee and Missouri from the East while LSU tangled with Florida and South Carolina. The Alabama honors will be partially tainted because of the weakness of its league opponents. Read more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=236572
