You are in the way.

GoldRing: "Notre Dame hasn't won a national championship since 1988. ... More than 35,000 tickets have been sold for the game in the U.S

It is going to be very important for the Notre Dame football fans to learn how to lose the national championship game. They should go and talk to the people who have been there and done that. Or just go on crying for the rest of their life. Learn how to lose quickly Notre Dame because the Crimson tide is rolling, and you are in the way."

Norma: "Well, maybe loosing to Clemson is not as bad as Louisville and getting beat bad.
Glad we did not play Louisville.
Maybe the talking heads really don't know how to rank these Teams. We should not listen to them know matter what they say.
Florida is number 3!
Louisville is number 21?
You have to question this so called system."

Tinker Town: "That was a big surprise how Louisville was out playing Florida throughout the entire football game. Obviously the ranking system. as you said, Florida is number 3! Louisville is number 21? is flawed big time...Good bye horses,"

LSU Football: Maquedius Bain Commits to Play for Tigers

Hotly recruited defensive tackle Maquedius Bain announced on Wednesday that he will call Baton Rouge home, committing to play for the LSU Tigers.
Bain will join an already loaded LSU defense that allowed only 16.9 points per game in 2012. The Tigers will be looking to replace senior DT Josh Downs, junior defensive end Sam Montgomery and junior DT Bennie Logan, each who could be headed for the NFL draft and leaving large gaps in the gifted LSU defensive line.

Bain, who currently attends high school in Fort Lauderdale, initially committed to Florida State before decommitting in July. He considered offers from Miami, Florida, Alabama, and USC, but after his December visit to LSU, word spread that it was only a matter of time until he announced that he would be a Tiger (AndTheValleyShook.com)

ESPN ranks Bain as the 43rd best player and sixth best defensive tackle in his recruiting class, noting his strength and quickness. Other scouting websites are not as sold on Bain's upside, with Scout.com ranking him the 27th best defensive tackle available and Rivals.com ranking him 40th at the position.

Bain is still learning the intricacies of the position, but at over 300 pounds, he already has the body and strength of a starting college player.

Bain had stated that he would declare his decision at Friday's Under Armour All-American Game, but announced (ESPN) after the game's Wednesday practice that he would commit to play at LSU, perhaps helping to soften the blow to Tiger faithful of Monday's Chick-fil-A Bowl loss.

LSU needs to get it fixed on offense

January, 1, 2013

By Chris Low | ESPN.com
LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger made a solemn promise just as 2012 was giving way to 2013 early Tuesday morning.

He was trying to explain the inexplicable -- how the Tigers could be so dysfunctional offensively in a 25-24 Chick-fil-A Bowl loss to Clemson that included a lot of the same warts that have popped up in LSU’s other losses over the last couple of years.

“Trust me when I say this is going to eat at everybody on this offense all year and all offseason,” Mettenberger said. “You’re going to see a totally different animal next year.

“We’re going to get this right for next year.”

They better, particularly if they plan on keeping pace with Alabama in the Western Division and remaining a fixture in the national championship equation.

Nobody’s saying that LSU’s defense has been perfect over the past two seasons, but the Tigers have been good enough and talented enough on that side of the ball to win a national title.

On offense … it’s been a complete crap shoot. Some good and some really, really bad.

The frustrating thing for those on the Bayou is that LSU closed the regular season this year with a flurry on offense. Mettenberger got better. So did his receivers, and the combination of the young talent in the offensive line along with freshman running back Jeremy Hill made for a promising future.

But then comes the New Year’s Eve dud in Atlanta that evoked memories of last season’s epic meltdown offensively against Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game.

It’s everything, too.

It’s not just the play-calling, although the decision to throw the ball on second and third down when LSU needed just 2 yards to pick up a clinching first down played right into Clemson’s hands.

You have to force Clemson to use its timeouts right there, and pounding the ball in that situation has been a hallmark of Les Miles’ program at LSU.

Moreover, where was Hill in the fourth quarter? He rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, and didn’t get a single carry in the fourth quarter.

And eight three-and-outs on offense, not to mention 219 total yards, against a Clemson defense ranked 74th nationally in total defense?

Again, it was everything -- questionable play-calling, poor execution, not manning up in the offensive line and not delivering in key situations.

LSU probably could have finished Clemson late in the third quarter after a Clemson fumble gave LSU possession at the Clemson 29-yard line, but LSU had to settle for a Drew Alleman 20-yard field goal.

Go back to the 21-17 loss to Alabama this season. LSU came alive offensively in that game and surged ahead 17-14 in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers were on the brink of finishing Alabama after driving to the Crimson Tide 32. But they opted for three straight running plays in that situation and came up empty when Alleman missed a 45-yard field goal, opening the door for Alabama’s game-winning drive.

In the 14-6 loss to Florida this season, LSU was held to a season-low 200 yards and didn’t score a touchdown, along with turning the ball over three times.

Of course, nothing compares to last season’s 21-0 stinker against Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game. LSU mustered just 92 total yards and didn’t cross midfield until its second possession of the fourth quarter. The worst part was that the Tigers never made any adjustments.

Every loss stings the most in the immediate aftermath. And let’s be real here. There are a ton of programs out there who would love to trade places with LSU. This has been one of the best runs in the history of the school.

But as impressive as this run has been -- and the Tigers have established themselves as a top 10 program nationally -- they’re going to hit a ceiling unless they can get it fixed on offense.

Miles hinted that some changes could be coming with his “adjustment has to be made” declaration following the loss to Clemson, which was LSU’s third postseason setback in the past four years.

With as many as six underclassmen on defense considering a jump to the NFL, the Tigers might face a bit of a rebuilding project on that side of the ball next season.

So more than ever, they need to find some consistency on offense, and probably more importantly, find a way to deliver on offense when it counts.

Otherwise, the Tigers’ best football under Miles might be behind them.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

Good morning, Tiger Fans,

Yesterday was right up there with January 10, 2012 in terms of the sheer volume of email I received from Tiger Fans. I do appreciate hearing from all of you, and I’m in the process of reading all of your messages, but there is no way that I can answer all of them individually.

A very high percentage of the fans I heard from were adamant about changes needing to be made on the offensive side of the ball. During Coach Miles’ post-game press conference, he hinted that some changes could be coming when he said, “Adjustment has to be made,” but whether this means staff changes, philosophical changes, player changes.... I don't know.

Most of you who’ve followed this site for a while know how I feel about the coaching staff. I like Coach Miles, and I am not among the fans that call for his dismissal after every disappointing loss. Also, I appreciate the way Coach Greg Strudrawa handled the issues of attrition and injury in the offensive line this season. Considering the personnel losses he faced, I think the offensive line did about as well as could be expected. However, I am not convinced that Coach Strudrawa is a big-time, creative offensive coordinator of the same caliber as Defensive Coordinator John Chavis. That's as much as I'm going to say about that for now, since dwelling on something like that only overshadows what success the team did enjoy this season, and could cast a grey cloud on recruiting during it's all-important final stretch.

Yesterday I mentioned that Brad Wing was supposed to announce a decision about his future, but instead he postponed his announcement until today, tweeting, “Apologies, announcement will definitely be tomorrow.” Wing is not the only Tiger who will soon be announcing his future plans as several juniors will be making their ever-important decision before the January 15 NFL deadline. The personal decision these young men are faced with making is monumental, and I wish them the best of luck in discerning what's best for their future.

Several other future college football players will be making huge announcements in the coming days as the 2013 recruiting season enters its final stretch. On Friday the 4th, two of LSU's biggest remaining targets – Kendell Beckwith (DE/LB, 6'3", 225, East Feliciana, No. 1 on our list of Top LA Prospects for 2013) and Maquedious Bain (DT, 6'3", 305, Fort Lauderdale, FL) – will be declaring their school of choice during the Under Armour All-Star game (4 p.m. ESPN). Another big-time target on LSU's wish list – Priest Willis (DB, 6'2", 190, Marcos de Niza, AZ) – will not be announcing his final decision during the game, but is expected to name his top three. I have no doubt that LSU is in his top-three and I feel confident about him being a Tiger when it's all said and done. I also feel very confident about Bain. As for Beckwith, I'd say it's too close to call at this time. Hopefully Friday's news will be enough to help many of us put Monday's loss behind and look forward to what should be a very bright LSU football future, Read more...http://www.dandydon.com/

Baton Rouge Advocate reporter/columnist talks LSU’s bowl loss on TR Radio

By RICHARD FISCHER
Tiger Rag Associate Editor

On the heels of LSU’s one-point collapse to Clemson in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, Les East of the Baton Rouge Advocate joined Jeff Palermo and Richard Fischer on Tiger Rag Radio Tuesday night.

He was in the Georgia Dome covering the game after spending bowl week in Atlanta covering the Tigers.
Clemson outscored LSU 12-0 in the fourth quarter Monday and outgained the Bayou Bengals 169 yards to one.

“It was a real tough loss, and I’m going to touch on this in my column in tomorrow’s paper (CLICK HERE for Les’ column). This game was so much like the whole [of the season]. There were times where they looked really good and looked like they had the game in hand. Yet as we’ve seen so many times this season they just didn’t have the ability to finish teams off. Sometimes they let teams come back and score late and make things tight and wound up winning. But last night was kinda like the Alabama game where they just let it get away late. It looked like they really had a chance to put the game away, and I just think it was like the Alabama game, it was like the season this year. When they had the chance to do something really special, they let it slip through their fingers, and that’s what happened in the fourth quarter last night.”

Les went on to break the game down in greater detail. He also talked about how LSU stacks up next year and whether this loss will affect the Tigers in their offseason prep for 2013.

I was in Atlanta and we just didn’t get in done in the 4th quarter. In sports they say “You just can’t win them all”! LSU is still a great team and 10 wins is something a lot of teams would love to have. Geaux Tigers!!!!

Everyone seems to be getting very tired of the excuses made over Les Miles head coaching ability by the Les Miles supporters over the years. The LSU football fans have been very disappointment, as they keep watching him coach the LSU fighting tiger college football program into one heartbreak after another, these past lone eight years. At what point will they simply just turn off all together?

1/2/2013 “Tom” Brokaw” on the MSNBC morning show told Joe Scarborough that LSU Les Miles can’t coach. because of the way LSU messed up the last LSU drive with 2 minutes left against the Clemson tigers in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. “That Les Miles is a very bad coach.” We the LSU tiger football program - are a disgrace to the nation…Good Grief!”
