Toughest Schedule

Tinker:

One of the reasons that Alabama was able to play for and win back to back BCS college football championships is as plain as the nose on our face. Good football players playing easy college football schedule.

Not playing a hard college schedule goes a long way to determine who get to play in the college football game championship.

Judge for yourself in the column below about college football schedule, and noticed that it has been a very long time that LSU was not playing against the very best in the SEC regular season football schedule.

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report

t was great hearing from many of you yesterday about the LSU Spring Football Game. A few of you who didn't have a chance to see the Tigers this spring asked whether a replay of the game would be broadcast on television, but the answer is no (at least not that I know of.) However, I did find these brief video highlights of the spring game produced by Jaques Doucet of WAFB that I think you will enjoy. And while you're at it, you might want to check out this video (by Tiger Rag) of Coach Les Miles's post-game press conference if you haven't seen it already. There's a funny moment starting at about the 10:05 mark when one of the reporters phone rings and Coach Les Miles picks it up and talks to the caller. Classic Les Miles!
After seeing the football team several times this spring, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about seeing a significantly improved offense, and I'll list the reasons why.

  • Cam Cameron as the offensive coordinator
  • A starting quarterback who now has a year of SEC experience under his belt
  • More quality depth at quarterback than in recent years
  • An offensive line that returns starters La'el Collins, Josh Williford, Trai Turner and Vadal Alexander, plus redshirt freshman Jerald Hawkins and true Freshman Ethan Pocic who both had great springs
  • A stable of four very talented runnings backs featuring a more mature Jeremy Hill and a healthy (soon to be 100%) Alfred Blue
  • A receiving corps that returns its leading receivers plus Travin Dural, John Diarse, Avery Peterson and hopefully Quantavious Leslie

With that said, I do have some concerns about fillings some pretty big holes on defense, the biggest of which is at middle linebacker and defensive end. More on that in a subsequent report.

Even though spring practice is over, the team will continue its strength and conditioning program under Coach Moffit's direction this week and next. During that time the team will do a lot of running and some light lifting. Each player will be required to run a certain number of 110m-dashes within a specific time before their training will be over. By the end of the month most will be done and ready for a nice break before returning in June for summer workouts.

What is your early top 20 for next season or top 10?   (Posted on 4/21/13 at 5:16 p.m.)

1.Alabama- 2 times champs I hate them but have to respect that.
2. Oregon- the offense wont miss a beat without Chip.
3.Ohio State- Urban knows what he is doing.
4.Georgia- Aaron Murry is a good QB not great paired with young defense.
5.Notre Dame- Wont last here for long.
6.Texas A&M- Johhny is good but not enough for them to stay here too long.
7.Standford- Hell of a coach with very good defense.
8.Clemson- Good team riding high after getting lucky in chicken bowl.
9.Flordia- Great defense but still question QB.
10.Flordia State- lost a lot but have good young players.
11.Louisville- Good team in bad conference.
12.South Carolina- They can only go so far with Clowney carrying them.
13.Oklahoma- They can play offense thats bout it.
14.Boise State- Maybe too high but they always end up here in the end.
15.LSU- Shouldnt be here way to talented but with Cam coming in they should get more out of the offense and defense just reloads and has big year.
16.Texas- Always overated but IMO will be better.
17.Northwestern- Finished season hot and bring back a lot of good players.
18. Nebraska- Bo Pelini is a good coach and QB Taylor needs more help around him.
19.Oklahoma State- Good offense could be sleeper in BIG12.
20.Vanderbilt- Franklin is building something down there.

Can't wait for football season!
