Wood injury devastating to Irish secondary
August, 20, 2012
By
Matt Fortuna | ESPN.com
As Thursday's media day wound down, Kerry Cooks was asked by yours truly about the progress of Notre Dame's cornerbacks.
Here are the words that came out of the Irish cornerbacks coach's mouth over the ensuing 37 seconds:
"I think that Lo Wood wright now is probably playing outside of himself. He's playing, really, better than what I would have anticipated him playing at this point. He's our most experienced cornerback as far as actually going into the games and playing, and now it's really starting to show up. He's just playing with a different edge. It's one of those things that's really hard to explain. But he's confident, he's making plays, he's smart, he's being savvy, he's doing all those things that a guy who's played a lot of football for you will do. And he really hasn't played a lot. He's played the most, but he hasn't played a lot." Read more...http://espn.go.com/ blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/ 63923/wood-injury-devastating- to-irish-secondary

Gamecocks' thin secondary suffers a blow
August, 20, 2012
By
Chris Low | ESPN.com
With senior cornerback Akeem Auguste out indefinitely, South Carolina's already thin secondary just got a lot thinner.
South Carolina announced Monday that Auguste tore a muscle in his right thigh during last Saturday's scrimmage. He will be re-evaluated by a doctor in four to five weeks, which means he'll miss at least the first few games. It could be longer given the nature of his injury and the position he plays. It's the kind of injury that tends to linger. Auguste, who had injured his groin earlier in preseason camp, missed all of last season with a foot injury, so this is a particularly tough blow for him. LSU will hold final scrimmage Tuesday
Published: Monday, August 20, 2012
By Scott Branson, The Times-PicayuneLSU Coach Les Miles will put the Tigers through its final scrimmage Tuesday in Tiger Stadium, giving coaches another chance to evaluate the team and players an opportunity to earn playing time.
Junior safety Eric Reid said LSU's scrimmages are competitive because for some players, everything is on the line.
"It's
the last evaluation the coaches have to see where they want to put
guys," Reid said. "So it's pretty big for everybody to see where you're
going to be at on the team and on the depth chart. Guys are fighting
for positions and fighting for playing time." Read more...http://www.nola.com/ lsu/index.ssf/2012/08/lsu_ will_hold_final_scrimmage. html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_ medium=twitter
