College Coaches Coaching Football

What is the Redemption?

For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting.

--John 3:16
Sin separates us from God
You might hear a Christian say, "Jesus saved us all." What the person is really referring to is something Catholics call the redemption of humanity. Catholics believe that Jesus Christ willingly sacrificed himself on the cross for the redemption of human sins on the behalf of all humanity.
Our beliefs tell us that through one man, Adam, sin entered the world in the form of original sin. Since that time, humans have been cursed with original sin, the results of our first parent’s defiance and rejection of God’s love. Original sin is harbored in every descendant of Adam, the entire human race, from the very moment of conception. It is original sin that weakens the will of man, and creates a tendency in man to embrace evil and selfish passions. Original sin places a barrier between God and us, and the effects of original sin are so devastating that no man, by his own willpower, can overcome the selfishness inherent in original sin.
Alabama 21, LSU 0, can Les Miles be saved?

Who made the best coaching move in college football?

Mike Leach (Washington State) and Urban Meyer (Ohio State) figure to win right away. Jim Mora is more of a question mark at UCLA.

A good coach can go a long way in this business. Last year, for example, Brady Hoke went all the way from San Diego to Michigan to turn the Wolverines back into winners.

Anyone who thinks Nick Saban wasn't worth the Brink's truck Alabama backed up for him probably has a stake in Shula's Steakhouse.

The veterinary student caretakers froze some watermelon in a block of ice for him as a birthday cake. Happy late birthday Mike!

What Could Be Under The Hat?

Les Miles

Some of us in Louisiana can’t help but get caught up in the magic of the LSU Tigers and their fascinating coach Les Miles. Miles currently holds a stunning 75-17 record and his success on the field extends to his recruiting, suggesting a mixture of talent in man- agement and leadership, flavored delightfully by his own unique style.
The media has focused on Miles’ unorthodox style, underscored by the nerve-racking, edge of the seat, 2007 season, where his gambles, trick-plays, and hair’s-breadth wins, became the norm. He was nicknamed “The Hat” for his large, unpretentious cap, which morphed into “The Mad Hatter,” because of his innovative plays and a tendency to
push the limits.
Recently Miles drew attention for chewing on grass, explaining it in existential terms: “I have a little tradition that humbles me as a man, that lets me know that I’m part of the field and part of the game.” Read more...

In Postgame News Conference, Pushing the Boundaries

By GREG BISHOP
NEW ORLEANS – After Louisiana State lost to Alabama on Monday in the Bowl Championship Series title game, Tigers Coach Les Miles and two players climbed a podium for their news conference. It started like most news conferences do, in that key figures were there to answer questions and reporters were there to ask them.
After Miles made an opening statement, the moderator opened the floor to questions. The first came from Bobby Hebert, a local broadcaster and former Saints quarterback, whose son, T-Bob Hebert, plays center and guard for L.S.U. LSU's Jarrett Lee: 'I don't know what the deal is, but this was a special team'

Despite the offense's struggles in LSU's 21-0 loss the Alabama in the BCS championship game Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, backup Jarrett Lee didn't play. Lee was a good soldier afterward, saying he trusted the coaches' decision and was more concerned about the team losing.

But he was short when asked whether Coach Les Miles or any of the coaches approached him during the game. "No, he (Miles) hasn't (approached him),'' said Lee, a fifth-year senior.
As for if he approached the coaches about lack of playing time following the Nov. 5 Alabama game, Lee said: "Nope, sure haven't. I haven't talked to any coaches or anything.
"I don't know it at all. I'm not really sure what happened, but I just tried to stay prepared for whenever my opportunity came. Obviously, it didn't. I don't know what the deal is, but this was a special team.''
FRUSTRATION: After the game, Tigers receiver Russell Shepard tweeted: "OMG I played 3 plays...''

Bobby Hebert questions LSU coach Les Miles on decision not to play Jarrett Lee
Bobby Hebert questions LSU coach Les Miles on decision not to play Jarrett Lee Local broadcaster Bobby Hebert is making national headlines for criticizing LSU Coach Les Miles' decision to not turn to backup quarterback Jarrett Lee after Jordan Jefferson struggled in the Tigers 21-0 loss to Alabama in the BCS championship game Monday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This is a video of his question and Miles' response during the coach's postgame press conference. Read more...

LSU Tigers can handle the hype of expectations, Les Miles says

Jim Kleinpeter, The Times Picayune By Jim Kleinpeter, The Times Picayune SU picked up a No. 2 quarterback Wednesday that Coach Les Miles described as a good fit for the program.A No. 2 finish last season also will fit the Tigers' designs for motivation in 2012.
rob_bolden.jpgGene J. Puskar / The Associated PressCoach Les Miles says the addition of Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden to LSU is a win-win situation for both parties.
Miles acknowledged that former Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden was on board, and it dominated the conversation with the media on the day the team reported for fall drills. But the underlying theme for the coming season is clearly going to be built off the end of the season gone by, when LSU won its first 13 games and was demolished by Alabama in the BCS title game. Miles expects LSU to apply lessons from 2011

The Associated PressBATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Les Miles can only hope that LSU's preseason camp is a lot calmer this season than it was a year ago.
''I hope we learned some things from the distractions last year,'' Miles said Wednesday as the Tigers reported for August practices. ''My greatest hope (for camp) is a very, comfortable forecast for sustained focus and learning.
''But, I always expect some crisis along the way,'' Miles continued. ''In my first fall (2005), there was (Hurricane) Katrina. No matter how smooth the weather may be today, something can come up.''
When Miles greeted his team 12 months ago, he was dealing with an unexpected change in offensive coordinators and the suspension of one of his returning wide receivers.
Offensive coordinator Steve Kragthorpe was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease right before the beginning of August practice and gave up that role. Offensive line coach Greg Studrawa assumed the coordinator's duties with Kragthorpe shifting to quarterbacks coach.
