Talkin' Tigers: A Look at LSU Football in Preseason
Thursday, 09 August 2012By: Rene Nadeau

The man they call 'Coach Stud' is excited about his play-calling possibilities for the LSU offense in 2012.
LSU head football coach Les Miles begins his eighth journey at the helm as he leads his team into college football weekly wars. His fingerprints are all over the Tiger program.
My time with the Tigers at their media day was enlightening. Spirits are soaring, while expectations are equally elevated within and from without of the LSU team for 2012.
Accolades are tossed around during the early preseason like Mardi Gras beads from a truck float. Everybody is undefeated this time of year. The truth is that in spite of the fact that the Tigers have captured two BCS titles (2003 and 2007), this year's version could be even better than any previous LSU squad.

The Contenders: Loaded LSU picks up the pieces where its last BCS run left off
By Matt Hinton | CBSSports.com College Football Blogger
• What we know. The last time we saw LSU, it was having the life squeezed out its dream season by Alabama in a merciless, 21-0 beatdown in the BCS Championship Game. A few months later, the Tigers lost five players in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft, three of whom had eligibility remaining. Together, that could make for a fairly grim offseason, until you take a couple steps back to make out the bayou from the trees. Just as the BCS flop against 'Bama obscured the fact that LSU was the best team in college football over the course of the entire 2011 season, the departures in the draft obscured just how frighteningly young that team really was. Earlier this week, I made my predictions for the 2012 SEC football season and picked the Tigers to go 12-0, before winning the SEC Championship and going to the BCS Title Game.
But as we all know, not all 12 of those wins would be created equal. They may be all equally important in the grand scheme of things, but some will be more difficult to earn than the others and some will carry more weight than othersSee the list and read more...http://www.tigerrag.

Who's afraid of the Honey Badger?
He's a Heisman finalist with a viral nickname. But is he over his head?
By Kevin Van Valkenburg | ESPN The MagazineThis story appears in ESPN The Magazine's Aug. 20 College Football Preview. Subscribe today!
THIS IS THE thing about Tyrann Mathieu. It's not the cartoon nickname, the punk-rock hair, the superhero highlight reel. It's not that he was a Heisman finalist as a sophomore or that he plays the game with an unbridled joy that's both infectious and obnoxious. The thing is this: Strip away the flamboyance, the head-bobbing arrogance, and the man the world knows as the Honey Badger is actually a bit shy. See and read more...http://espn.go.com/

A normal Friday in Baton Rouge has become anything but typical approaching the noon hour.
Les Miles, scheduled to meet with reporters late this afternoon, has rescheduled his meeting with the media to noon, and it is being widely circulated that junior cornerback Tyrann Mathieu is at the heart of today’s suspected big announcement.
I’m in the Team Room waiting for Miles right now. Before reporters arrived, Miles met with the team in this very space.
Stay tuned to TigerRag.com for more as the news comes in.

UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.
Les Miles announces at a noon press conference that he has dismissed LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu from the team for a violation of team rules.
“We lost a quality person. We enjoyed going to work with him … We’ll miss the guy,” Miles said.
