LSU Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger relishes leadership role

Tinker Town: "One of the great things that most people like about sports, and the game of football. Is that the art of lying is not an option. Lying get you nothing but boos in sports. Because sports are results oriented. Men and women against the task of that sport. Politics has nothing to do with running faster, trying harder, pushing the load. To the victor goes the spoils."

BATON ROUGE -- Losing two veteran quarterbacks would put most teams in an air of uncertainty.
Not the LSU Tigers, however, who enter this season brimming with confidence in the right arm of junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
zach-mettenberger.jpgRusty Costanza/The Times PicayuneLSU Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger spent most of last season on the bench behind Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee.
"We are excited about what (Mettenberger) is doing and the leadership by taking over the team since last year," LSU offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa said. "He has looked forward to this opportunity and done many things during the offseason to make this team better."
Mettenberger is finally putting to rest the four year saga of Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee.
After transferring from Kansas' Butler Community College before last season, Mettenberger watched and learned from a team that rode its running game and defense to a spot in the national championship game. Read more...http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/08/lsu_tigers_quarterback_zach_me.html

2012 College Football Video Countdown Reaches No. 1

College football season draws near, so catch up on this year's biggest story lines, players, and games by breezing through these SB Nation Studios preview videos.

LSU, Alabama, Oregon Top The 2012 SB Nation Studios Top 25

SB Nation Studios (subscribe on YouTube!) is ramping up its college football coverage (which already includes Shutdown Fullback along with much more) as the season approaches, continuing with five more videos in the SB Nation Studios 2012 Preseason Top 25 countdown series by Dan Rubenstein and Bill Connelly.
At No. 1, we've got LSU, which appears to be solving its biggest weakness by introducing a big arm at quarterback:
No. 2, the defending national champs who've lost a ton of talent (as usual): Alabama.
Pleased to note the SB Nation Studios No. 3 is Oregon, which actually has a full assortment of scholarship players.
But USC wasn't overlooked, as their vast range of offensive weaponry powers them to No. 4.
And at No. 5, because no top five would ever be complete without them, Oklahoma. Read more and see the videos ...http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/2012/7/27/3193832/college-football-preview-2012-conferences-top-25

Their bond began to form years ago, but it was recently strengthened on the hot and steamy practice fields at Nichols State.

For four days, the SEC's top quarterbacks -- and a number of other elite ones from all across the country -- converged on Thibodaux, La., to participate in the Manning Passing Academy. Their time was mostly devoted to guiding younger campers through various drills and activities, but there were more than enough windows for them to sling the ball around and size up each other.

"It's an interesting relationship," Arkansas' Tyler Wilson said. "You always want to be nice, present yourself in a manner that they like you. But you also want to know, 'Hey, that guy's competitive and he wants to beat my tail when he steps on the field with me.''

Why The Top 10 In The College Football Top 25 Will Come Up Short

Why The Top 10 In The College Football Top 25 Will Come Up Short

Marvin Gentry - US PRESSWIRE
With fall camps under way across the country, the college football season is almost upon us. With the coming of the season comes the inevitable college football top 25 poll and pre-season rankings of every school before anyone has seen anybody take a single snap. The coaches poll came out last week and there were few surprises (though Texas Tech getting a vote was a little mysterious). Most notable are the top 10 teams, which will have an inside track to the BCS bowls at the end of the season. The coaches’ top 10 is full of high profile schools, top programs, elite talent…but no Big East schools (but that might be redundant). See the list and read more...http://www.rantsports.com/lacesout/2012/08/10/why-the-top-10-in-the-college-football-top-25-will-come-up-short/

Tinker Town: "Then of course we the people have always lived next to the darkest side of society that seem to shake our faith in mankind worth from time to time. What in the world were the Penn State chain of command thinking as they foolishly tried to hide the sleazy crimes of Jerry Sandusky who was working for Penn State University?"

A source tells Radaronline.com that investigators are looking into an allegation that Sandusky and "a prominent Penn State booster" were involved in "illegal behavior with young boys." In addition, Postal Inspectors have been looking into whether Sandusky shared child pornography with others, CBS News has reported.
