TigerGumbo: "The 2012 LSU fighting tigers football team was a better college football team playing against North Texas State last week 41-14 victory. But the highly anticipated new LSU quarterback Zack Mettenberger passing game did not exist, in the LSU offense last Saturday night. Alabama on the other hand look great on TV against Michigan as LSU seems to be the same old 2011 offense. Half of the LSU football fans left the game early in the third quarter became it became apparent that the LSU coaching staff was simply pulling everyone leg into thinking otherwise. No one like to be bull talked. LSU had no down field passing to speak of. The same old, same old, eight year old Les Miles drip and drabs of an college offense. More offensive ( insulting ), then anything else."

LSU notes: Injuries to Alex Hurst & Craig Loston thrust young players into the spotlight
Published: Tuesday, September 04, 2012, 10:26 PM Updated: Tuesday, September 04, 2012, 11:26 PM
By Randy Rosetta, The Times-PicayuneBATON ROUGE - There weren't any major injuries during LSU's season opener against North Texas last Saturday, and that was among the best news after the Tigers dispatched of the Mean Green 41-14.
APLSU tackles Vadal Alexander (left) and Alex Hurst (right) go head-to-head in a drill in pre-season camp.
There were signs that
two veterans are still struggling with nagging injuries, though, and that might
be a concern as the No. 3-ranked Tigers (1-0) prepare for what figures to be a
much sterner test this weekend when Washington (1-0) visits Baton Rouge.Right tackle Alex Hurst struggled at times against North Texas, allowing several rushers past him in pass coverage, perhaps a result of a lingering ankle problem that prevented him from going full speed throughout much of pre-season camp.Read more...http://www.nola.com/

Defensive errors leave LSU with bitter taste despite win

Numbers such as the 41-14 final score, the 508 yards the Tigers gained, the 219 they held the Mean Green to, the two 100-yard rushers and a 72-yard punt return for a touchdown suggest a very efficient performance.
But the film shows the reality of a lot of stuff that needs to get fixed before a more challenging opponent (Washington) enters Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Read more...http://theadvocate.com/

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
9/5/12 5:50 am CDT
Good morning, Tiger Fans.Yesterday the weekly football rankings were released and, as expected, LSU came in at No. 3 in both polls (AP and USA Today Coaches). Alabama came in at No. 1, followed by USC at No. 2. Five SEC teams made the top 10 of each poll. You can check out the full top-25 of both polls here. With Boise State out of the top-25, LSU now has the second longest streak of top-25 rankings at 50 weeks. (Don’t ask who has the longest streak; you don’t want to know.) Oh, and Andy Staples of SI.com has LSU No. 2 in his weekly Power Rankings. Read more...http://www.dandydon.

Mettenberger watched quietly from the sidelines as LSU rolled through
what looked like was going to be a dream season last fall. Then came the
stumble in the bowl game that cost the Tigers a national title and
started a conversation that some had been quietly pondering.
Why wasn't Mettenberger prepared to play more last fall — burning a year of eligibility while playing in five games with just 11 pass attempts — instead of held back for 2012?
Many still debate what might have happened if he had been inserted in some games — especially the rematch 21-0 loss to the Tide in which LSU virtually had no offense.
LSU managed just 53 yards passing from senior starting quarterback Jordan Jefferson. Even Tigers coach Les Miles admits maybe it was a mistake.
But the 6-foot-5 Mettenberger has been quiet about 2011. He pays his respects and moves on.Read more...http://www. floridatoday.com/article/ 20120905/COLUMNISTS0315/ 309050036/?nclick_check=1
