Good morning, Tiger Fans.

Tinker Town: "Apparently the man is everything in sports, and war. Without the right leader, we lose the battle. The man also is the reason one card player beats the other card player in a poker game. The man is everything in college football also. One man away from college football oblivion. What might happen to the LSU football program if John Chavis takes the Tennessee Vols head football coaching job in 2013?"

LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis spoke to the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday and recalled many of the good times he had while playing and coaching for the Vols.
Like his first day at practice under former UT coach Johnny Majors, who also attended the Quarterback Club luncheon.
And like his recruiting trips while coaching under Majors, and the SEC championships he helped win under Majors and former coach Phillip Fulmer, and the 1998 national championship he helped win under Fulmer.
Chavis hardly mentioned UT's current football situation — a team that is struggling (3-4, 0-4 SEC), a fan base that is uneasy (at best), and a head coach ( Derek Dooley) who may be coaching to save his job. WORSHAM: On the Ball

Plenty of blame, hypocrisy in Mathieu saga

Editor’s note: This column appears in today’s issue of Tiger Rag Magazine, our first edition since SI released its cover story on Tyrann Mathieu.

October is a busy month in the world of sports.
With college and pro football in midseason, professional baseball in the playoffs, NBA preseason getting started, soccer in play around the world, and even the WNBA in its finals, there’s many a story to be told among thousands and thousands of athletes.
So when Sports Illustrated’s Oct. 22nd issue hit stands - actually, when its cover story was released last week online - it was pretty shocking to see former LSU football star Tyrann Mathieu on its cover.
“Endangered,” read the headline text. “The perilous road of The Honey Badger,” said the subhead. Read more...http://www.tigerrag.com/?p=227882

TigerGumbo on October 23rd, 2012 9:00 am  " We the LSU football fans did nothing but cheer and celebrate “The Honey Badger,” natural great college football ability when he was performing in LSU tiger Stadium.  The rest of Tyrann Mathieu life out side of the football field was his own privet life. That he was having trouble with the choices that hurt him and his family, is very much public because of the sports media. His sin that hurt him was his alone, and had nothing to do with the LSU college football fans. The sports media sins about reporting Tyrann Mathieu's reasons for not playing football any longer on the LSU football team in turn was the sports media fault.
Tyrann Mathieu can still regain his honor with everyone who was hurt by his fall from grace. That's the one think that I love so much about Jesus Christ Father. He forgives us of our trespasses, and helps us back into God amazing spirit. If Tyrann Mathieu happens to meet me walking on the sidewalk, I would be very glad to shake his hand and wish him well. I'm still very proud of Tyrann Mathieu?"

Dandy Don's LSU Sportws Report
Good morning, Tiger Fans.
Last year at this time many were calling the LSU football team the best in school history. LSU was ranked No. 1 in the country and was coming off a very impressive 45-10 win over Auburn. LSU was playing well in all three phases of the game and was doing everything right. In many regards, it was as close to a perfect season as the Tigers have ever had, and so it makes sense to use last year's team as a yardstick by which to measure the relative success of this year's team.
With that in mind, today we’ll compare a few stats from the 2011 and 2012 Tiger teams. It is my hope that in comparing the stats we'll get a clearer indication of this year's team's strengths and weaknesses, and maybe a better perspective on just where we stand. Here we go...
LSU Stats through 8 games
A few things that jump out at me:
First, the positives: Surprisingly, this year's team is averaging more total yards per game than last year. (I know, LSU often had a short field to work with last year due to turnovers). Also, this year's offense is more evenly balanced between the run and pass (63% run this year compared to 67% last year). On the ground, this year’s Tigers are averaging 19 yards more per game than last year. Those stats clearly indicate an improved running game and a more balanced attack, and I find that particularly impressive considering the injuries and attrition the staff has had to deal with in the offensive line. Other positives I take from the chart are that LSU's defense is holding its opponents to fewer yards per game and is coming away with more sacks per game. Good stuff.
Now, the negatives: LSU is only averaging five fewer passing yards per game this year than last year, but pass efficiency is way down. Among other things, the pass efficiency computation takes into account interceptions and touchdowns, and those are two areas where LSU's passing game has suffered. The good news is Mettenberger has only thrown one interception in the last two games. The small number of touchdown passes this year (7 vs. 16 last year) is big, as is the greatly diminished success rate on third down conversions and red-zone scoring. To me, those three stats are indicative of the team's biggest problem areas. One other negative from the stats is the number of sacks LSU has given up this year, but I am not overly concerned with that considering how well the new offensive line is doing. The Tigers only gave up a total of only three sacks against South Carolina and A&M
Conclusion: This year's defense is very comparable to last years. It's a little stronger against the pass with a better pass rushing component, but maybe a little weaker against the run. This year's offense is obviously not where it needs to be, but I suspect it's better in total yards and rushing yards, and is more balanced, than many realize. Of course, the most important stat of all is the team's record – 7-1. Read more...http://www.dandydon.com/
