Tinker Town: "LSU 2012 football team became a true fighting tiger football team onto themselves in beating South Carolina last Saturday night. The good fight is in them now, and not in a yesteryear LSU team. They are finally became a group of football player who are becoming apart of the greater group. A team fighting to gain yards and fighting to win football games. A strong talented college football team. The patchwork offensive lineman with freshman and others, did the job good enough to move the football for 22 first downs. A big time good job against a stout SEC defense, with a grandma patch quilt work offensive line, that I'm now calling patches. these guys earned the respect from tiger fans everywhere. Wow, they did a great job.
However the LSU QB does not seem to have very much athletic ability outside of a talented throwing arm. If he studies the game more, and become more aware of his QB job, and goes jump into a mud puddle, this LSU football team can finally start scoring touchdowns against the better football teams LSU plays. Les Miles might not be much of a head football coach in many peoples eyes. But he is never the less a lucky guy with the ability to have his LSU football players fight very hard when their backs were against the wall, swinging with both hands. With the talent LSU obviously has on this football team. LSU is indeed once again in the hunt to be one of the best, if not the best college football team around college football. The BCS # 6 college football team right now. That was a great game LSU played Saturday night. If coach Les Miles gets himself a real talented offense coordinator one day, LSU will be one of the best college football teams in college football for a very long time. Great job tigers."

It’s a feeling one can’t know until they’ve been there; witnessed the drinks flying and voices lost.
Saturday night against the Gamecocks, LSU fans filled up every open seat, and other spilled into the aisles. No one left early, and the roads saw traffic throughout the night.
Electric is one way to describe the scene during the Tigers’ 23-21 win over No. 3 South Carolina.
Rare is a better adjective.
“That was Death Valley,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “That was the place where opponent’s dreams come to die. It was spectacular. It started early, and it went late. It was with us the whole night.
“I recognize that advantage that this team had in this stadium.”

The LSU of old overpowers South Carolina
October, 14, 2012
By
Edward Aschoff | ESPN.com
BATON ROUGE, La. -- As the Golden Band from Tigerland struck up LSU’s alma mater following the Tigers' dramatic 23-21 win over South Carolina, quarterback Zach Mettenberger and offensive coordinator Greg Studrawa couldn’t find enough people to hug.
With ear-to-ear grins, rosy cheeks and victory sweat running down their faces, the two stood a few yards from the mob of players raising their fists and helmets to the sky with each note that blared from above, and savored the moment, as gorilla-sized weights slid off their backs.
A week after their inept offense helped produce LSU’s first loss of the season, all seemed forgotten.
“Really, that’s what we should have been doing all year,” said Mettenberger, who finished Saturday night with 148 yards on 12-of-25 passing. “We knew we could do it.”
The Tigers didn’t do it with much style, but a week after being pushed around by Florida, LSU was the more physical team and grinded like the Tigers did in 2011.
The game plan that buried LSU in the Swamp benefited the Tigers on Saturday, as they wore out South Carolina’s defense by running 78 plays -- 28 more than last week -- which amounted to 406 yards. LSU pounded South Carolina’s vaunted defensive front with 258 rushing yards, with three running backs running up double-digit carry totals. Glenn Guilbeau: LSU Tigers roar back behind a rag-tag offensive line
LSU's Jeremy Hill runs for a touchdown against South Carolina. / AP

The No. 9 and slipping Tigers bounced back from offensive obscurity with not one but two whole touchdowns – just their second and third in Southeastern Conference play this season – and held on for a 23-21 victory over No. 3 South Carolina Saturday night.
Speaking of obscurity, backup freshman tailback Jeremy Hill, who had to delay his entry into LSU because of an arrest nearly two years ago, put LSU ahead 23-14 late in the fourth quarter with a 50-yard touchdown run directly up the middle.
But LSU won this game on the front row with a bunch of Bob Ueckers playing on the offensive line against a murderer’s row of sack-crazy defensive linemen. Read more...http://www.

Beaten up on the BayouScott Hood

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Arguably the most raucous atmosphere in all of college football, and being pushed around on both lines of scrimmage, was too much to overcome for South Carolina.
Ahead by four points with one quarter remaining, USC allowed LSU to score points on three straight possessions in the final period as the Tigers claimed a hard-fought and physical 23-21 victory over the Gamecocks on Saturday in front of a noisy crowd of more than 92,000 mostly gold-clad fans at Tiger Stadium.
Simply, the Gamecocks were bullied on the Bayou.
Facing its second top-10 opponent in as many weeks, USC managed just 211 total yards, but scored a touchdown with less than two minutes remaining to cut LSU's lead to two points and had the ball for one final possession, but was denied.
USC was outgained 407-211, including a canyon-sized gulf in rushing yardage, 258-34. LSU averaged 4.9 yards per carry, while the Gamecocks' rushing attack was held to 1.4 yards per carry.
LSU dominated both lines of scrimmage in winning its 22nd straight home game.
"Tonight, I realized why LSU was preseason No. 1," coach Steve Spurrier said. "They're a big, strong team. They can run the ball and stop the run. That was the biggest difference in the game. We didn't have many (rushing yards) at all. I give those guys credit. We weren't really sharp offensively. They deserved to beat us, no question about that." Read more...http://southcarolina.

Gamecocks drop 23-21 heartbreaker in the Bayou
Coach Steve Spurrier and the third-ranked South Carolina
Gamecocks fell short on Saturday night against No. 9 LSU in Baton Rouge,
La.

AP
BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU has built its elite reputation as a
perennial national title contender almost solely on its defensive
prowess, and the Tigers flexed their muscles Saturday night against
South Carolina.
The ninth-ranked hosts
laid rest to the debate regarding who could better stop whom in a battle
against a USC defense that had swayed many into believing its
ever-improving lineup was on par with the talented Tigers.
LSU’s
23-21 victory over the No. 3 Gamecocks drops USC (6-1, 4-1 SEC) to
second-place behind No. 4 Florida (6-0, 5-0) in the SEC Eastern
Division. USC plays at the Gators next week and could reassume command
of its own destiny with a victory that would give it the initial
tiebreaker over both Florida and Georgia.
“They
are a big, strong team that can run the ball and stop the run and that
was probably the difference in the game,” USC coach Steve Spurrier said.
“The rushing yards they had and we didn’t have hardly any at all. Give
those guys credit, but we weren’t very sharp offensively. They deserved
to beat us, no question about it.” Read more..http://www.goupstate. com/article/20121013/ARTICLES/ 121019816/1091/?p=all&tc= pgall&tc=ar

Johnny Manziel puts up big numbers for A&M
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel rolls out to pass. / US Presswire

Saturday night at Independence Stadium, fans of No. 23 Louisiana Tech found out why.
Redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel led two gutsy fourth-quarter touchdown drives to secure a 59-57 win for No. 22 Texas A&M.
Manziel had just thrown an interception that Tech defensive lineman Shakeil Lucas returned for a touchdown to cut A&M’s lead to two points at 46-44.
But Manziel bounced back. He twisted away from Bulldogs tacklers to pick up a first down on a third down. Then he scrambled to his right and hit Thomas Johnson for a 33-yard pass on third-and-5.
Manziel finished off the win-saving drive with a third-down, 17-yard touchdown strike to Johnson in the left corner of the end zone with 7:28 left in the game.
A&M’s defense was able to stop Tech’s next drive, and Manziel put the game out of reach for good with a 73-yard touchdown rush through Tech’s defense on a third-and-23 play with 2:04 left in the game. Read more...http://www.
