Old School

Tinker Town: " Steve Spurrier told the truth after the game, quote:“Tonight, I realized why LSU was preseason No. 1,” coach Steve Spurrier said. “They’re a big, strong team. They can run the ball and stop the run. That was the biggest difference in the game. We didn’t have many (rushing yards) at all. I give those guys credit. We weren’t really sharp offensively. They deserved to beat us, no question about that.” Read more…http://southcarolina.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1422042
Spurrier went on to also say “that USC had a chance to steel the game victory away from LSU in the last quarter, because LSU failed to score TD in the red zone.” Les Miles better improve LSU passing offense soon, or the worst can still happen?"

Marty Simpson's Big Play Breakdown

In this special feature, former Gamecock football player Marty Simpson takes a look at some of the big plays from the USC-LSU game.

The video clips in this feature are from XOS Digitial, the SEC's online media partner. The videos require the use of Flash; therefore, they may not work for iPad users.

29-yard pass to Justice Cunningham

This play is possibly called because the Gamecocks thought that LSU was in man-to-man with a free safety (Cover-1). But LSU does a good job of disguising that it is actually in Cover-3 or three-deep zone. Either way, there is a void created in the defense by running this pattern.

The voided area is highlighted in blue in the play diagram below. You can also see the initial alignment of the cornerbacks before they sprint to their deep thirds. This gives an initial look of Cover-1. See video's and read more...
