Now it's too late for tears

Tinker Town: "We almost had it all tiger fans, but for the problem that Les Miles had within his person of trying to be something that he is not. He hired the right man in John Chavis as defensive coordinator. But somehow his personal problem stopped him from hiring a real offense coordinator too. Therefore, the LSU football program started losing grown to the other ambitious SEC college football teams. Now it's too late for tears. " http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYEDA3JcQqw

LSU's Miles wants more from passing game

October, 24, 2012
By Chris Low | ESPN.com
No matter how you slice it, LSU’s passing game has been a disappointment this season.

The Tigers are 12
th in the SEC in passing offense. Quarterback Zach Mettenberger is 12th in the league in passing efficiency, and his receivers have been plagued by dropped passes.

With a bye this week and No. 1 Alabama coming to town in two weeks, LSU coach Les Miles said there’s no question the Tigers need to be better at throwing the football. He said it’s unfair to put all of the blame on Mettenberger and has seen some growth in his first-year starter.

“I see him coming. I see him progressing, and he was smarter with the ball in the (Texas A&M) game more than he was in the past,” Miles said. “We expect him to continue to develop. One thing about it is that it’s his first year starting, the first time he’s played in a series of games in a row and the first time he’s lined up in Tiger Stadium again and again and again. There’s some growth there.”

He and his offense go up against the 2nd best defense in the nation in practice, but in games against lesser defenses we can't move the ball. I'm not sure where the disconnect is, but it started before this season. Each game the offense struggles, I begin to think more and more that maybe Jarrett Lee, and even JJ, took too much blame.
I think Mettengropedher just came in with such high expectations and it has kinda gotten to him a bit. It doesn't help that LSU has had quite a few injuries on the OL through the season. Odel-Beckham has also been extremely inconsistant and has some major greese hands. Hopefully they don't improve too much until AFTER the bama game, though.
It also helps that we will be major underdogs. Somehow they play better when not expected to win.
The spread will most likely be under 4 points. I'm thinking it'll open at 2.5 or 3.5
That's pretty generous. Then again, it is the 1 & 2 defenses on the field again. Y'all better hope Shelley/Foster are practicing with noise.
I don't think miles has confidence in Zach and I don't think Zach has confidence in his pass blocking. Or the receivers either for that matter. However I do see some signs of improvement and I think we can pull this game out
It's in Tiger Stadium at night, so anything can happen. I was there the last time we were shut out at home in a night game. I'll be there next weekend. Hope it doesn't happen again.
Les Miles is talking out of both sides of his mouth on this. He also says he wants to be a running team, and the play calling reflects it. Everybody in the stadium knows what plays LSU is going to run on offense. We are soooo predicable. How is Mettenberger going to get better if they don't let him air it out?
Bama is the game on the schedule that really matters. And right now they have us figured out.

Last week, I think they actually tried to throw it too much. They through it 29 times. That may not seem like a lot, but I thought it was about 15 times too many for the way that game was going.
If he woul have hit those deep passes, the score would have been much different. They had our corners beat.
lsu needs all the help they can get.
That lone touchdown pass was also due to an incredible diving play made by the wr!
Which is the way it should be. Early in the season, Mett would lead the receivers, but they wouldn't follow through. They would stop and jump instead of maintaining stride. And when he would throw perfect passes, they would drop them. It's more the receivers than Mett. If the receivers would do what receivers are supposed to do, Mett's completion pct. would be quite a bit higher.

Losing that Left tackle hindered Metts development

And losing the right tackle (who was moved to left tackle after CF went down) doesn't help. Nor did losing the starting right guard for a while. Also, the dropped passes didn't help.

Yes, last year they had no time to find an OC. Not sure what is going on this year, or next, but he needs another hire of Chavis' caliber. I hear Bobby Petrino is available.
ha. From what I remember from last year's Arkansas vs LSU game, I think he and Les get along really well.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Smile
Steve Kragthorpe was/is supposed to be the OC. He would've been a good one, if not for his condition.

In other obvious news, Les Miles wants to win football games.

Yes, but Les would actually say he "has a want" to win football games, and that want is damn strong.
Well, no shite!

Miles says LSU Tigers working on passing game

By LES EAST
Advocate sportswriter
October 25, 2012

LSU coach Les Miles got hit coming and going with questions about his team’s struggling passing attack Wednesday.
In the morning, the passing game — which produced a season-low 97 yards in a 24-19 victory at Texas A&M last Saturday — was a popular topic as Miles fielded questions during his stint on the Southeastern Conference coaches weekly teleconference.
It was still popular some eight hours later when Miles met with Baton Rouge reporters for the first time since returning from College Station, Texas.
Shortly thereafter, fans brought up the topic during Miles’ weekly radio show.
The sixth-ranked Tigers are 7-1 and 3-1 in the SEC, but they rank 12th in the league in passing offense. This week’s open date provides three extra practices for the coaches to work with quarterback Zach Mettenberger, the receivers and the entire passing game before starting game-week preparations for No. 1 Alabama on Monday.
LSU is working on more than just the passing game this week, but it seems pretty clear Miles is showing more than a passing interest in trying to improve it.
“It’s a lot more than just Zach,” Miles said. “Does he have protection? Is the route being run properly and is the route open? I think to recognize it’s more than just the quarterback is fundamental there. Read more...http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/4233880-123/miles-says-lsu-tigers-working

ESPN devotes entire magazine issue to LSU-Alabama rematch

Published Oct 24, 2012 at 3:00 pm (Updated Oct 24, 2012)

The LSU-Alabama rematch is being billed as "1 Day, 1 Game" by ESPN The Magazine, which is dedicating an entire issue to the gridiron contest that will be published the following week, says LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette. "Their publication has requested 48 credentials, 25 of which are photographers," Bonnette says. The big SEC West rivalry will also secure the attention of ESPN's College GameDay and ESPN Radio, Bonnette says, as well as media from the East and West coasts: The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, The Boston Globe and a tabloid or two from London. "It will be an impressive list of people coming to that game," Bonnette says. Herb Vincent, a senior associate athletic director and associate vice chancellor for the Office of Communications & University Relations, says the combined fan base of both teams expected to arrive on the LSU campus Nov. 3 could easily exceed a good average turnout of 120,000. "I think 150,000 is a conservative number," Vincent says. In the meantime, ESPN senior writer Wright Thompson is already tweeting up a storm on his early reporting from Baton Rouge, showing a strong affection for Fleur de Lis Pizza and Pastime Restaurant. —Adam Pearson

BATON ROUGE -- There is no question where LSU football coach Les Miles will be Saturday night – his sofa.
No. 1 and defending national champion Alabama (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference), which will be across from Miles on Nov. 3 in Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m., will host No. 11 Mississippi State (7-0, 3-0 SEC) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN. A victory by the Crimson Tide, which is No. 1 in both wire service polls and in the Bowl Championship Series rankings that has State at 11, will set up an SEC West showdown in Baton Rouge at 7 p.m. on CBS.
The BCS No. 6 Tigers (7-1, 3-1 SEC) have an open date Saturday.
“I suspect that I might have a note or two there,” Miles said when asked if he would watch the Bama-State game with a notebook in one hand. “I don’t know that I make too much of the issue. I’ll probably be more relaxed and will have the need to take a note if there is one – if there’s something that I need to get from the film.”
Miles and his staff routinely have access to more revealing camera views of a game on Sunday and Monday than ESPN or any of the networks provide.
“Generally, you like to see the coach’s copy,” he said. “That’s where most of the information is transferred.”Read more...http://www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20121024/SPORTS0202/121024037/

Dandy Don's LSU Sports Report
Good morning, Tiger Fans.
Last night I listed to the Les Miles radio show and Coach Miles was obviously excited about coming away with a big win in College Station and advancing to 7-1 on the season. Coach Miles called the contest as entertaining a game as he’s seen in a while and emphasized that it’s always nice to get an SEC win on the road, and I agree with the later part of that sentence.
Before going to the phone line, Jim Hawthorne called the 29-yard touchdown pass from Mettenberger to Kadron Boone the offensive play of the game. Miles agreed and called it a momentum changer. He also mentioned Jeremy Hill’s big touchdown run and spoke of needing balance.
As usual, Gary was the first caller of the night, and, as usual, he said he’s still waiting and expecting a 300-yard game from Mettenberger. Coach Miles said he’s right with him and that they’ll continue to push for that. Read more...http://www.dandydon.com/

Tinker Town: " Less Miles said that " Everything is alright" tiger fans. We can stop worrying about Alabama running up the score on the LSU Tiger Stadium scoreboard. Embarrassing each and everyone of us, except for Les Miles of course, because he seems to think that everything is alright with our LSU football program?
